Thank you so much for posting a video of the con! I was Vendor Coordinator/Hall Policy Manager this year and I can't begin to tell you how hard our Artist Alley team worked this year to bring such a wonderful AA for the con. I wanted to clarify for Mystery/Blind Bags, we banned them a few years ago because people hide restricted items in them. It's a situation where a small group ruined it for everyone. The thing we are much stricter on is trademark infringement. This year we had a LOT of it, so instead of having artists remove items, we just asked that the infringing detail be covered. We do this to protect our artists from receiving Cease and Desists. We've yet to have any handed out, but we have consulted with reps and it was a recommended action we could take if they showed up with that intention. Thank you for being so kind and lovely with our staff, and I'm glad you enjoyed the event. I totally laughed when you pointed out The Alley in AA... we didn't do that on purpose and none of us realized what we did until I told them about your comment. It's a very happy accident 🤣
I had a great time at the event and thank you for working so hard! I see your point with the mystery bags- that’s such a shame. But I’m glad the artists were protected. I totally thought The Alley was planned because it was funny 😂
I’m so glad that from the sounds of it you had success. You deserve it and hopefully more of these kinds of cons and events recognize that and give you more shots
Thank you! I applied to events too late this year, so it’s kinda my fault for automatically joining the waitlist 😅 Hopefully I can apply early for 2025 events
Lol that sharp turn at the body pillows at 11:10 Almost like you didn't wanna get caught! Great Video though! I'm planning on going to try and attempt to get a table for Animethon next year! So hopefully it works out! Hope you had fun while you were there!
@@kaylamah hopefully I do, it’ll be my first artist alley attempt. So I’ve been looking up all sorts of ways to prepare myself! That’s sounds like my future self problem at the moment though~!
I haven't gone to Animethon in almost 10 years. I used to go every years since it's 10th year. That convention has a very long history of terrible planning and poor budgeting among other issues and drama from the organization. Truthfully I am amazed they are still going, maybe they've finally got themselves sorted out.
You should sit down and talk to some staff from about 10-15 years ago. There are some great stories about some wild times, but we made it through! We now have over 400 staff across the entire event, and we MIGHT reach around 17,000~ attendees this year. They released a number at closing ceremonies, but we're still working on the final count.
@@CheekyAdorable I definitely have a lot of feedback for anime conventions. I was around for a lot of the managerial stumbling, sometimes as a panelist, artist in artist alley, and as an attendee. At one point I really hit a wall with anime conventions where it became super boring. I had developed a "seen it a million times" mentality that took the fun out of conventions for me so I stopped going altogether. The innovation just wasn't there. I'm curious as to the nitty gritty on how Animethon manages their event now-a-days.
I've been going every year since 2012. Since they've moved to the ECC, it's gotten a lot better. I'm not involved with the organizers so I'm not privy to any drama but most people I've talked to have said it's one of the better small/mid sized cons in NA, largely based off it's impressive ability to get guests. This year we had Demondice, MYTH&ROID, Dokibird and Konomi Suzuki among others. It was a really stacked lineup for a con that isn't the size of an Anime Expo, Otakon etc.
You popped up on my feed and Dawwww you highlighted my spot as the "massive displays were amazing". Good job algorithm! Have you watched the Christmas movie Love Hard? It's one of me and my girlfriend's favourite rom coms and spoilers, the protagonist is trying to figure out how to pursue his passion to be a candle maker! I'll keep an eye out for you at future Alberta pop culture cons! Did you apply for Edmonton Expo late Sept?
Haha bless the algorithm! Your display was absolutely amazing- as a newbie I was shocked. I definitely need to up my display in the future. I haven’t watched the movie, but I’ll definitely add it to my list. Yes, I’ll be at Edmonton Expo! Table A300. See you there 😁
