  • This was a difficult video to make. Technically and emotionally. Oli Herbert was a staple in the music community and an absolute badass, so as a student and a friend of his, it felt right to make this video in honor of him and the latest All That Remains album that just dropped yesterday. I hope he would be happy with me for the work I've put in since the last time we saw each other, and may he rest in peace, and rock in paradise forever. One love!

Oli's style and complexity in all his solos are unmatched. If you are really listening they blend so well with the rest of the songs and are individually unique. I found myself listening to ATR today and reminisced on all the live shows i have been to of theirs. Meeting oli on the for we are many tour at house of blues chicago. He is introverted but would always give time to fans. No one tours harder than ATR mid 2005-2015 and oli told me it was taking a toll on them and how it was hard to make $ in the industry during that time. IN MY OPINION after for we are many ATR lost a step.

Brought a tear to my eye. I bought the Overcome song book used online one day years ago but post mortem and it showed up signed by the entire band including Oli. Wasn't even in the ad.

and i was expecting to see The Deepest Grey solo on this top 5. no disrespect but i don't understand how it could not be on here. That solo played by itself, alone, sounds like chromatic blahness, but that fucking genius made it fucking work. it's easily in his top 3 solos because of that reason and probably his most unique solo. i understand if it was omitted because it's a bitch sounding it out to play, and i can't find any lessons for it anywhere but it definitely deserved a specific mention in my opinion.

I got into all that remains because of Jason Richardson and I’ve come to realize that not only does Jason have big shoes to fill, but that I’ve missed seeing one of the greatest guitarists I’ve ever heard play live.
May Oli find peace in heaven shredding for god.

Thank you for this. I played guitar for 20 years and quit when I saw Oli play live. I knew I would never play as well, no matter how much I practiced. I kept thinking there's no way I can compete, but after 10 years, maybe I should pick it up again.

PLEASE do I Die In Degrees. It has literally the best phrasing and represents Oli's style perfectly. The ambassador solo. Also The solo in From the Outside is another I would absolutely love to see someone of your caliber play.
You're an extremely talented player and I respect your dedication. I only had the pleasure of meeting Oli once but he has long been my favorite guitar player to ever live and I will forever miss him. R.I. P. Oli.

The thing that got me about Oli's playing is that it always sounded easier than it actually was. Im not even talking about his solos either, just his riffs. I would constantly make a fool of myself telling my friends and bandmates that id learn a song (minus the solos) in a few days MAYBE a week at the most.. only to end up taking a month or more.. and thats ONLY IF i didnt just say fuck it and give up to learn something else lol
That being said, it was his guitar playing that inspired me and influenced me to pick up the guitar. A buddy of mine was showing me guitar hero 2 for the first time (i was a nigga that only listened to rap at that time lol) and he started playing Six on expert.. all i knew of guitar music at that point was Korn or Marylin Manson (stuff my older sister listened to growing up) so i couldnt believe what the fuck i was seeing and hearing lol
