I am coming back after a long break, so starting again on a 5 tip opening in a Meyer style as well as the Burnin’ alto mouthpiece. After a couple months of daily practice, including daily long tones, I’ve found that I sometimes wish I could put more air into the sax, so I might think about a 6 one of these days, but no rush.
I prefer larger tip openings so the 7 stood out to me. I use a Boston sax shop m series 7 which is around .081 inches and on tenor an Otto link tone master 8 which is ariund 0.110 inches
To my ears, the 5 sounds warmer and more focused. And the sound brightens and opens up as the tip size grows. My 2 main mouthpieces are both hard rubber. A 90s Meyer 6, medium chamber, medium facing, and a recent Meyer NY, 7, medium facing. V16 or Hemke reeds usually. I've been playing with the WCW 56 mouthpiece with different reeds. But I've really taken to the Rovner ligatures. Mostly settled on the Mk3, with the Platinum when I want to project. It's all relative anyway, but it's fun to play with combos and change up the sound and feel here and there. Now if I'd only pick up the horn more often than I do, that would be the most beneficial aspect.
I play on either a .083 tip opening for alto, or my Bergs are both opened up to .095 (jump around between two mouthpieces usually; a fully custom plastic or a 0 Berg large chamber), with a 3 tenor reed. On tenor I play a 1 Berg that's opened up to .128, and on bari a 2 Berg Larsen opened from .105 to .118. I really like big tip openings with softer reeds--and slightly longer facing curves--I've noticed in doing some mouthpiece work.
coming from a Meyer 6,i just ordered the Burnin 5 + power ring and still going up slightly in tip size . good thing that most stores give an option to compare and send back what you dont want. so if its anything less as perfect i still might swap to a 6 or 7
On alto I use a 1968 model Guy Hawkins hard rubber 6 for pop/jazz and a Sigurd Rascher for legit. On tenor, it's a Morgan Excaliber 6L for pop/jazz and a Selmer Soloist C* for legit. For pop music, on both horns, I use Rico Royal 2-1/2. For legit, Vandoren 3-1/2. The embouchure changes don't bother me.
The one that doesn’t cost $250! I have tried both Burnin and Vandoren and really can’t tell a difference. For $250 Vandorens come with a nice ligature and mouthpiece cap. Burnin is worth $150 or $250 with a premium ligature with a cap.
I play mostly 7s right now. Of course, not being standard sizes, I'm working on a Jody Jazz 7 on (jazz) Bari, having started on my 5* Otto Link, moving to my 5 Brilhart, and then to my 7 Brilhart. Orally, Metal Brilharts are a much better fit for my mouth so far. Even though I play a Selmer C* in Wind Symphony and 2 Civic Bands, the Jody Jazz Jet is taking some getting used to, as I need to increase my lung capacity. Asthma doesn't help, but I'm working on it.

6 is what I love the most

0.110 is crazy 😂

I use a Meyer 7MM, always have for 50 years.

For me it appeared that you felt more comfortable on 5 and 6. More work to control the 7. Sound is similar on all three
Meyer 5 Alto, Link 7* Tenor
They all sound good, I use 5 cannonball and 6 Vandoren v16 A6 very good for me in altosax.

I play on a Meyer New York 7. My H. Couf Superba 1 just sings with it!
for bari sax i play on a 8 syos steady. i love it. on tenor i play a jumbo java T75 (i’m mainly a bari player)
Currently playing a Selmer soloist style on alto in a G, roughly equivalent to an 8! For tenor, use a 7** and soprano a 6*.
I play a 4 with a 3.5 reed which is a slightly strange setup....but I love Desmond and Art Pepper so it's the sound I like!
I like the 5 and the 6 the best.
On Bari Vandoren V16 B7
Tenor Vandoren V16 T7
Alto Selmer Super Session H
Soprano Selmer Super Session F
And I love them ❤
6 ist best with the reed you use. Tip opening and reed strength go hand in glove.

6 sounds best!
Can you do this for tenor?
Maaan. All my mouthpieces are better than me! Hope one of them adopts me soon.
I use a syos spark 6
When it comes to mouthpiece tip opening ; 7 is the king. Beside that any other tip openings are for taste and preferences.
8 with reeds 3 for jazz 7 with reeds 3 ½ for classical
I play a vintage Otto link rubber mouthpiece from the 80s, and its a 6* tip opening
Recuerda que eso tiene que ver mucho de la embocadura que tenga cada cual , hay que practicar para tener una embocadura al día
What’s the link to purchase them?
First link in description of video.
I use a 7 on tenor
