- President Barack Obama’s visit to Alaska kicked off in Anchorage with his arrival at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on Monday afternoon.

The president disembarked from Air Force One with Alaska Gov. Bill Walker and greeted several dignitaries - including Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz and first lady of Alaska Donna Walker - before taking a moment to shake hands with some in the crowd welcoming him to Anchorage.

I had just finished walking from Florida to Alaska and was making my way across the bridge that runs from the city out towards the air force base. There wasn't any traffic but there were helicopters flying around. I had no idea what was going on. A police officer then drove up and said, "Get in the car! President Obama is trying to cross the bridge and you're holding up the line!" He then escorted me off the bridge and dropped me off just on the other side, the side without people. As I was standing on the edge of the road by myself, Obama and all his crew passed by and gave me dirty looks. It was really awkward lol Yep, I got mean mugged by the president..
