Chad is a genius. I was very fortunate to take 2 of his classes. It changed the way I looked at and built ARs. I highly recommend him. In addition, he’s a super nice and genuine guy.
Got my wife a complete V7 with this same barrel. The entire system is absolutely amazing, crazy good accuracy on the 16” fluted. I am so jealous of her rifle... I almost bought one for myself as well but I figured one V7 is enough for one day 😃

Chad is "The Man"! Ive been assembling a.r.'s as a hobbie and for my enjoyment for 4 years and have lucked out as what ive seen here makes me realize i need MORE, much more education and guaging to find absolutes in my hobby. Thankyou Chad!
Hello there, at the 23:26 mark we get to see you in your borescope lens. My last barrel was Sentinel .223 Wylde that is a tack driver with 8 different loads in both .223 and 5.56mm NATO.
3:39 This is why I love watching your channel! I enjoy assembling my own AR's as a hobby. Of all the AR's I own my AR-556 & 1 complete upper are the only gas blocks I didn't install and I was completely unaware of a "toothed" set screw. Thanks for sharing this stuff. AR's are just a hobby for me but I'm certain you've forgotten the sum total of my knowledge many times over.
During the headspace sequence you said 223 Go, 556 GO and 556 field. What's the difference between the two Go gauges in thousandths and why jump all the way to the field gauge? Thanks .
What go/nogo/field gauge set would you recommend? The only set i have found was pacific machine and tool in 223, which they say also worked for 5.56x45. i have 2 guns, one factory with a new barrel, and one built that i want to check.
Given how expensive Sharpies are and how inexpensive layout fluid is and how much more you get and how much longer it lasts than a marker, it seems like a good idea just to get the layout fluid.
V7 certainly charges top dollar but they also put out great stuff. I plan on getting their 16.5" Ultralight handguard for my 18" build. Weighs 10oz!!! 16.5" handguard at 10oz. Bananas!!
Alot of videos say you should take the extractor and ejector off the bolt before checking headspace. I see you don't do that. Although these were people checking headspace of a installed barrel. Not sure if it makes a difference.
You just saw one quality barrel. V7 makes some bitchin' gear. Some Noveske barrels are FN blanks that get final dimensions and finish at Noveske. DD CHF barrels are excellent. I own all the above: four excellent barrels. I've heard good things about Rosco and Faxon. Precision barrels like Criterion and Bartlein and Krieger are fantastic, but probably not what I would put on an AR-15 unless it was a NM gun.
@@SchooloftheAmericanRifle Ok. Your videos that I have watched so far are informative for me. I am a range officer for the state and commonly see a number of issues that people have on the firing line, but that I don't have the knowledge to help them address. I would like to see you do a video on the the top five or ten or whatever problems with ARs and how to addresses them, or to get them to a competent gunsmith before shooting any more.
@@SchooloftheAmericanRifle I second Gronicle1's reply below for a "Top 10" video... I also end up helping a lot of people at the range with problem guns. I always run them through basic function tests, last round bolt hold open test and inspecting spent brass, but I may be missing something that you know I should be checking for or the fixes to those issues. If you could also help us address where to draw the line between recommending simples "fixes" and when to tell the owner they really need the services of an armorer, would be of great assistance. That's always a very grey line. For example, recommending heavier buffer vs adjustable gas block, on a heavily overgassed carbine.
No. The dimensions of the ammo is nearly the same. The issue, as I understand it, is that 5.56 is loaded to higher pressures, so a shorter throat & bullet jump to the lands will result in even higher pressures than designed.
I would like to send you a AR stoner upper setup or just barrel and BGC for an exam. If you interested please let me know how. These are bargin basement upper in most eyes ive been told but it works for the average day at the range. Again please let me know.
That gas port looked more like excessive force was put on the drill when it was pushed along to make the hole. Then the test firing knocked the bur away left by the heavy handed drilling.
Just cutting wylde throats in everything and just calling them 5.56 NATO - sometimes with also an "assurance of sub MOA accuracy" - seems to be becoming a real issue in the industry....
After watching several of your videos now. Ive come to grips with the fact that I'll e ordering a good bore scope/Bore Camera very soon. Hopefully this and some gages ive also order will help me diagnose a issue im having on a non AR-15 223 rifle that I can't seemingly figure out. And neither can the manufacturer at this point. And they seemingly don't care to either (I won't mention there name) However the the quality of this firearms used to be a fantastic. All before they where bought out by this large Handgun manufacturer. Its SAD that there customer service side tells you that a 3" plus MOA is with in there standards as a hunting rifle. And with its 1-12 twist it will NOT stabilize 55 gr ammunition and key holes 8 out of 10 rounds fired. And its a new barrel with less than 300 rnds fired from it.
Sounds alot like a burr in the barrel. Hopefully ya got everything figured out by now tho. Had a burr in my Posen depot build K91 and it didn't get key holes but the POI was around 1.5-2 feet left and 3-4 feet high at 100 yards. Burr in the groove at the muzzle caused the gas to push the bullet off of the sights.
Reloading every bullet has a different measurement to the landings because of the ogive of the bullet. If your bullet is contacting that lands you can get overpressure.

I'm learning a lot, thanks!
Thanks for producing this awesome video. I learned a lot. Very informative and interesting.
Hi Great videos the dest yet I can't stop thinking what adjustable gas block that we should stay away from.
can you let us know what the make and model of the borescope you are using is?
Fantastic info Chad! Question - are the padded vise blocks manufactured buy TREX or Fiberon ?

Right from the start: Dang! What a neat barrel ... :o )
Always a great education watching Chad's videos
Like to see video on adjustable gas blocks to avoid
This is better than coffee at 5am.
I wonder if the shorter throat is their "match" 5.56.
Where do you find the toothed set screws?

That Barrel looks identical to the Balistic Advantage 18" SS I have, only BA doesn't paint it. How makes this Barrel for V7?
V7 certainly charges top dollar but they also put out great stuff. I plan on getting their 16.5" Ultralight handguard for my 18" build. Weighs 10oz!!! 16.5" handguard at 10oz. Bananas!!

Can you do an adjustable gas block video to remedy larger gas ports?
Very educational thank you
awesome
Who do you recommend for a quality barrel?
Rifle Shooter Channel what do you think about Noveske barrels??
You just saw one quality barrel. V7 makes some bitchin' gear. Some Noveske barrels are FN blanks that get final dimensions and finish at Noveske. DD CHF barrels are excellent. I own all the above: four excellent barrels.

Was wondering if after putting many rounds thru the barrel if that throat area would open up enough to run mil spec 5.56?
How bad would the barrel throat have to be before you would intervene and maybe hit it with a reamer or some other procedure to lengthen things?
I look at the brass. If there are pressure indicators or it's popping primers then the throat may need to be addressed.

is this a 5.56 or .223 wylde barrel?
10:00 so when you put 5.56 into .223 the bullet is engaging the rifling when you chamber?
No. The dimensions of the ammo is nearly the same. The issue, as I understand it, is that 5.56 is loaded to higher pressures, so a shorter throat & bullet jump to the lands will result in even higher pressures than designed.
what the 223 wylde throat guage?
This is AR.15 ASMR!!
Wow.

What diameter is the barrel straightness guage?
.215

Wow
I cannot believe there are even minor signs of erosion from test firing that barrel.
What kind of rifling did he say the barrel had?
Polygonal
That gas port looked more like excessive force was put on the drill when it was pushed along to make the hole. Then the test firing knocked the bur away left by the heavy handed drilling.
What are the chances this is a 223wylde chamber mis labeled?

all this is great, but the real deal is how it shoots.
