The Canon would look better if you do manual white balance and manual exposure control, to limit the blown highlights on your face. But the Panasonic is better. I use my Canon Vixia 800 in B/W mode at night, the noise kinda looks film-like. Kinda. Make sure you turn on Power IS, my 800 defaults to Power IS off when first powered on.

@@SantiagoMonroy5 Never heard of AVGN, but if so, his/her taste is absolutely impeccable. Almost done editing a feature we shot with two AF-100s, because the second was only $560 and came with a Rokinon Cine DS 50mm :-)
G85 looks super nice with that 40,000 dollar studio light. The camcorder sucked big time. Just get rid of it. The Sony action cam was years ahead of the Canon vixia camcorder. I have a feeling they do it on purpose so people by full frame for better quality and then the cine cams for even better quality. Seriously Canon why?

The HF R700 is what I use. I bought mine used on Ebay for $99! My biggest complaint with it is I need soooo much light. It looks pretty good outside in natural lighting. Plus you can't trust the flip-out LED screen. It always looks brighter than it's actually recording. Very frustrating to get your shot set up "perfect" then pull it off the card and it's too dark.
Canon is hilariously bad indoors but I like the home video vibe it has outside, or like a local tv station in the 90s reporting super local events like the favourite chicken in town befriending a hamster that used to be shunned upon.
This takes me back. I had a couple Canon Vixia HF 200's to make study tutorials for tests in college years ago. For what I was doing they did the job and were a great entry level camcorder for someone just learning. Also they were affordable. You gotta start somewhere. Not the best cameras for vlogging though I would imagine. This is good content.
Love your vids! Will you do the xa50 at some point? I just got one. We film RC airplanes and we do want everything in focus if possible. I shopped around and landed on the xa 50. We have worked with the 60 and 70d and a Sony a7iii. All seemed like a bigger deal than it needed to be. Anyway thanks for being hilarious and for keeping it real. All we ever wanted was the perfect camera as well. RC Aircraft capture aka photomasochism
Just some tips on the camcorder. I have the HFR800. I imagine it is similar to the 700 as it is a slightly newer model. Setting the zoom to "advanced mode", gives you a wider angle out of the gate. Set the audio recording to manual and adjust as needed. Set the "audio scene" for recording music for more natural sound. All the other audio scenes dynamically compress the audio and remove the bass response. I got my HFR800 refurbed last month for $128. They can be useful for video and vlogging but you have to dig into the numerous settings to get the best out of them.
I thought these video would lift the mist on camera selection but I get more confused with every episode. I think I'm going with the Fuji and the Granny flip screen... and then ask my Granny to direct.
Have you ever tried the Panasonic FZ80? I know, no flippy, and small sensor, BUT the video quality and zoom is pretty amazing, for the price. Just curious if you tested it.
Enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work. Might be time to do a segment on video camera comparisons against your Sony x3000. Battle of the mini sensors! Olympus has a TG Tough Tracker for under us$200 (discounted) with a "smaller" 1/2.3" sensor, 5 axis stabilisation and a fast f2.0 lens?!!. Did I mention it also has the 'flippy screen'? Camera is green though so might make you stand out some what in a crowd.
For some reason the background out of the G85 was just... extra delicious. Just the right amount of yummy background blur. It made me happy to see you being separated so elegantly from it. The Canon? Oh yeah, it definitely recorded some video there.
I shoot all video with a goPro I have a shiny Photography, oh wait a landscape "click" camera for pictures. The G85 is better, better white balance and sharpness
I own one of those Vixia cameras in good light OK. Strange stabilization on mine frame is exposed. Perfectly good for vlogging. I think your current setup with G85 and proper lighting is kicking major butt.

Weird you make this... At work we've got a Sony camcorder that I NEARLY tossed before testing it. Honestly, it's got solid 1080p, AMAZING optical zoom, and the best optical stabilization I've ever seen. Honestly for like $200 on ebay, absolutely better than any entry dslr people get.
I prefer my Pany HC V380, Much wider natively at 28mm full frame equivalent, and I think the Pany's sounds and stabilisation are better. I didn't like the standard colour profile of this particular Canon either, but some of the others looked like fun. They are both really cheap camcorders, both cost sub 150 imperial Earth units, so probably best to compare them to a really cheap camera to get a fair idea.
I have that camcorder. I use my 80D for my gaming videos, but I was wanting to use this camcorder for the longer recording sessions. I was very disappointed in the image quality as it was not sharp at all, has a low bitrate so just looks silly, and I don't think it looks any better than my Logitech webcam. Despite having very low megapixels, it seems to have an excess amount of noise, even with 2 softbox lights, a ring light, and a small aputure light. Honestly wish I never bought it lol
I thought I'd never buy a camcorder, but I got one for a specific purpose only a few times a year. Any camcorder will be really good at image stabilization, and they zoom forever. I use my camcorder for school plays (I'm the parent in the back with the camcorder but I don't care, it zooms right up there), and my kids sporting events. Basically any situation that requires a ton of zoom and where I image quality isn't the highest concern. I have a full frame mirrorless kit, a DSLR kit, a 1" compact camera, and a camcorder... each is a tool that shines in its own way. If I brought my FF mirrorless to my kids soccer game, I'd need a huge/heavy lens to too zoom out there (it'd look great, but that's a ton of overhead).
I dunno...that Sony Ax700 is pretty attractive to me. That canon you picked is total junk. Doesn't even shoot 4k and zero manual features. I own mirrorless, cameras, a camcorder and cinema camera. I like to use a Sony AX53, Rode VideoMicro and a MeFOTO Tripod which combined cost me 940 shipped. Already paid for it self. The image quality is just fine. Boss stabilization amazing. Auto focus is actually not bad. I can pull focus via the ring as well. Also white balance etc etc even the funky white card trick is available. Has a touch flippy screen, zebras and focus peaking. Can even do a focus auto zoom then snap back. I can zoom crazy far and very clear. Control the camcorder with my phone. Shoot 4K 30 and nice 1080p. I can do more adjustments with the DSLR but the camcorder is so easy and pack able. Not that large at all. I do want to replace my Nikon one day but the camera companies don't want to give me the flippy screen.
