  • Mukuamu (pronounced moo-KWAW-moo) moved from South Carolina to Louisiana before his senior year of high school. He was at Parkway High School for only one semester, though, before enrolling at South Carolina in January 2018. Mukuamu was rated among the top safeties nationally, but coaches put him at cornerback to take advantage of his length and athleticism. He started two of 13 games played as a true freshman (17 tackles, two for loss, one interception). Mukuamu made national headlines with his performance against Georgia in 2019, posting 11 tackles and intercepting three passes in the Gamecocks' upset win over the Bulldogs. He led the team with four interceptions on the year, also posting 59 stops, two for loss, and nine pass breakups in 12 starts (one at safety). Mukuamu joined fellow secondary member Jaycee Horn in opting out of the remainder of the 2020 season shortly after head coach Will Muschamp was fired in November. He struggled with a groin injury throughout the year but started five of six games played (10 tackles, two interceptions) at cornerback and safety.
    Overview
Rangy cornerback with unique combination of size and length that could allow him to play outside or over matchup tight ends. He has the strength and tools in press-man, but leggy transitions and modest recovery burst diminish his margin for error against the release. His wingspan makes him a human skyscraper who can hassle the passing lane in Cover 2 and fluster deep ball attempts in Cover 3. The instincts are average, making him less likely to jump a route than simply play what he sees. He's a capable tackler, but needs to amp up the aggression in run support whether teams view him as a cornerback or safety at the next level. Mukuamu has the potential to develop into a starter.
    Strengths
Height, weight and length are rare commodities at his position.
Imposing frame makes early release difficult.
Jab and lateral shuffle create roadblock from press.
Long arms shade downfield throws from trail position.
Quick plant and drive back to receiver from Cover 3 shuffle.
Squeezes on top of dig routes from free safety.
Physical traits make 50-50 balls a losing proposition for opponent.
Soft hands and above-average ball skills for takeaways.
Fairly reliable as a targeted tackler in run game.
Centers and wraps ball-carrier when uncovered.
    Weaknesses
Struggled some in coverage in 2020.
High-cut frame leads to leggy transitions from press.
Grabs and panics when beaten by sudden release.
Clunky footwork in directional change from pedal.
Interceptions often came when he was out of position.
Stop-start features brief delay before acceleration.
Not always a naturally aggressive player.
Lacked urgency with run support duties from safety.

I played against Wilson. He played both ways at Woodlawn and he was a beast. Scored like 2 rushing tds 2 receiving Tds and a pick six lol we still beat them bc that's all he had was Dwill. I played at Captian shreve WR and MLB and he lit my ass up on a slant. I held on to the ball but was seeing stars lol. I also played against Tredavious White. He played at Green oaks and was the QB ans CB he was a stud a Qb. By the way you do realize Bossier City is 15 mins from where I live , haughton is 25 mins from where I live and Dwill played 5 mins down the street from me. We still text everyn now and then. Including Ar'darius Washington (which we should've picked up) and Trent Taylor Wr who played for the 49ers and now is playing for the Bengals. They both played at evangel , here in Shreveport, La.

The “you got the best db in the league” ✅ conference. The size ✅ shortening the field. Chip on his shoulder✅ with horne getting so much attention and first round pick money.(that’s why he said he was the best. Meaning better than jc horne)
    Versatility ✅ safety or corner.

I love his size and play making abilities. Although I do believe from what I see He needs to get lower on the tackles As NFL running backs Will truck him and it’s easy to keep everything in front of you when your playing 5 yards off the receiver the entire time. Also I think it’s worth noting his confidence, if anyone else noticed when he answered the phone when he got drafted he said you got the best coner in the draft

  • @waydegardner7373

A lot of people would criticize him on that run play for not stepping into the lane to tackle. In reality, he forced the runner to commit to the middle and cut off the backside. That’s a heads up play.

    Great analysis/breakdown coach!
They’ll fix some of his footwork and the lack of aggression as far as coming down hill. He waits on a lot of tackles instead of meeting them. He catches the tackle instead of laying into them.
I say he’s a very interesting player to watch develop. Could absolutely be a great CB with a few tweaks and some work. Could cause for some tough matchups. If he doesn’t develop though I see him being more of a N/Hybrid/Overhang player that comes off the roof. I don’t see him being a Free or even a safety played back. They’re gonna want him up and in the mix unless they drop him back just to have a big body in the QBs line of vision to make him 2nd guess. Gonna have to follow this young man as he progresses! For SCar to have the secondary that they did, along with great defensive minded coaches Im really disappointed with how they played against other SEC teams. Great content!

I think with his height range and speed, FS gives us someone who can cover sideline to sideline when we are in cover 1. If we're playing aggressive with our CBs he solidifies down field. We must be planning on blitzing a lot.

I’d say strong safety, we got beat with a frying pan to many times, the run, & cross routes from guys like number 10 of the Cardinals or 24 New York Giants. There going to test him anyway with speed & experience after he gets his feet wet in a game than decide to keep him or move him against certain pressure’s.

He's got some upside so we will see if he can be developed and if he stays hungry. Team has already moved him to safety so it looks like they're saying sink or swim back there. Hopefully he surprises and goes and wins the free safety job.

Honestly, being in Charlotte and having the opportunity to watch a to of USC Gamecock football, I believe this guy could be a legit corner. We have to keep in mind SCar had an absolute monster at corner on the other side so he got thrown on a ton. I hate the body type stereotypes in football. Everything is starting to shift to counter the types of offenses and how innovative/hard to stop they are. He could be a matchup nightmare for bigger receivers who love the jump ball on smaller DBs. He could also easily cover TE’s or upbacks (called the H or F, whatever the lingo is). I say he’s two intangibles away from being a legit, strictly corner. If he’s not able to improve those areas then he would make an insane SS/N/Hybrid/Overhang player with better aggression in the run game. Definitely a guy to watch!

I'm gonna tell u right now guys we gotta DAMN STEAL & i know it for a fact Y'all! Not because i'm a South Carolina fan & i'm just hypin my dude up!Honestly i couldn't stand his ass in college because I'm an SEC fan a TENNESSEE VOLS fan & everytime we played this cat he gave us fits the whole damn game & shut us down!!After his Sophmore year they were ranking him already as a 1st-2nd rd player. He always played where they needed him at & he was hurt all year coming into this covid season only playing 5 games but still had 2 ints not missing any games before he opted out 2 days later after they fired their head coach when they said that coach was safe.So it pissed him off as well as horn & led the revolt for alot of the defense to quit on em because they fired their coach & defensive coordinator when they said he was safe.So when i seen all these mock drafts coming out at in preseason with them saying he's a 1-2nd round draft pick.So then since he played hurt all 5 games for his TEAM played MULTIPLE POSITIONS to help THE TEAM & did what coach asked of him leading the team with 2 int or tied with horn when they fired his coach behind the scenes. So when he found out about it of course it pissed him the hell off cause they lied sayin that coach muss was safe so then he opted out 2 days later after playing hurt all damn season going thru this covid bullshit & doing it all all for the TEAM & then he quit.He quit on The University not the TEAM!!!Them Horn followed the very next day then they lost evenmore guys opting out on both sides of the ball but mainly on defense. So that's why he fell so far in the draft & i know that the SC front office people tried there DAMNDEST & there best to throw DIRT on the kid & SHADE on his name when he was just doing what he thought of at the moment was the right thing to do for his coach & only what a TEAM player who LOVED his COACH who was LOYAL to his COACH would do anything for his coach & then was lied to in one them shady ol ass backroom deals about the coach so he was just doing the right thing by his coach. He was just being LOYAL TO HIS COACHES PLAYERS & TEAM who loved him invested in him & was there everyday in that weightroom & was on that practicefield come rain or shine working hard together everydamn day to try & be the very best!!!Not what the back stabbing university was trying to be so he bailed on them & rightfuly sole!!When the heads of the University lie to you straight to up & to ur face then they have lost all credibility & the players who had heart had passion love & dedication to one another came together one last time & had their coach's back just like coach would if one of them got into trouble & they all went out together one last time with their coach! So THANK YOU Gamecocks! We'll take this fine young man with Quin coachin him up on whatever position they settle on & we"ll have a beast of aplayer who just want's to play football!!Finally!!We gettin those DAWGS!!We gettin those guys who wanna FIGHT!!Who wana play ball!

Not physical enough for strong safety, I don’t think that’s even in consideration. I think they’re trying him at free and if it doesn’t work he probably doesn’t make the team or gets signed to the practice squad. Strong is not in the cards for him. We have our strong, he’s a playmaker, he’s probably the most physical player on our team, he’s an enforcer AND he has ball skills.. that’s Donovan Wilson. No offense to Izzy but he doesn’t hold a candle to Donovan at Strong, not even in the slightest.
