  • Why do we do what is not in our best interest? Answer: Because we don't slow down to allow sparks of innovation. Joseph Sanok describes how the fearful brain does not react except to do what you already know, and describes the "vigilance decrement." Joe Sanok teaches healthcare private practice owners how to slow down and find the real purpose of their businesses by bringing big ideas to life. Through podcasting and consulting Joe explores how to increase influence and impact on the world through being curious. As a business leader, Joe continues to seek ways to make the world more interesting. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Love the speech Joe! Less social media, less electronics, more family, equals real life, and true freedom of the mind. Life is short, don't get tangled up in the day to day digital world, that doesn't truly affect whats right there in front of you...your real life, friends and family.

Yes! We can have a great business but not at the expense of having time away and making an impact on the world.

It seems antithetical to "slow down" in order to be more productive- but often the opposite of what we are currently doing can, in fact, be the answer to our problems!
Great speech Joe, thanks so much for sharing.

Awesome job Joe! In a world that values speed and productivity, it requires a strong intention to slow down and just let things be.

Great speech! Meditation is key to achieve maximum creativity. If only there was a school that taught people how to slow down...

Pretty good. He fudged it w/ Tribe of Mentors, no mention of Pomodoro Technique was slightly disappointing, and he went w/ Churchill napping (or was it nipping).

Love this Joe! Such great points that relate to so many aspects of life. For example, when we get stressed or overwhelmed, we tend to resort to old habits or ways of coping. If we pause, we give ourselves the opportunity to be more intentional with our responses and outcomes.

Wonderful job Joe! I love your use of storytelling. The camera clicks were awesome. Most importantly, your message was informative and easy to follow. Listening to your speech made me want to slow down as your voice and rate of speech was very calming. Well done.

Great insight. I once heard that these aha moments happen because slowing down allows your unconscious to do the rest of the work. We wrestle with things consciously, pack it away by slowing down, and the mind does the rest of restorative work. :-)
