08:00 The Upper Ground thing appears right on the edge of the London borough of Lambeth, I think it's a borough thing. It's their whack a mole strategy to keep traffic out of the borough, Valentine place was another!
You could be right Tom, I generally think that most actions and ideas are less thought out and reactionary bright ideas more than anything else. Or more likely it suits a local well positioned person and they instigated it and changed it. I lived on Upper Ground 11 years ago and Fiona still lives there. I never saw any volume of traffic to warrant any action
I get approached very often on linked in regarding career opportunities driving AI equipped vehicles in London. The most notable being Wayve. With this particular conversation in mind, are we seeing all these road closures to Pave way for AI vehicles to practise / take over / utilise the entire network, piece by piece. I am RoSPA certified and have put my credentials on linked in. (Advanced driver, close protection driver, RoSPA. This has attracted unexpected attention. Wayve are Microsoft backed and they have an ever increasing fleet of Jaguar I Pace driving around and learning all the behaviours of the roads of central London. I don’t just think this is a hidden message to pave way for Cyclsits. I Believe that this is the tip of the iceberg for the AI companies to push out hundreds of vehicles, that are shoving motorists off, in order for the AI taught cars to observe, practice, adopt and effectively own each road that is closed off.
That is an excellent insight. I remember seeing many years ago how cites best suited to Ai driving had a specific kind of road network and markings, and how London and Paris streets were impossible to use. However, I tend to think that the powers in charge at these councils do not have the intelligence to think so deeply or plan that far ahead, and are much more gut reaction and opinionated with their ideas. (Unless they have outside interference incentives, which i think may be your point)
@@WizAnn320 yeah agree Dean. I don’t know myself the exact truth but i think every point made by all of you and what I think is all correct and beyond Likely. I think the last about the outside interference is spot on. Ai cameras getting motorists touching phones etc is here already with the Acusensus trailers. It’s just partners isn’t it. TFL can be as dumb as they like. I think they’re closing the roads for clean air but partners are spotting the opportunity. But my bottom line is this is all playing up to autonomous networks. London is the second most active city in the world for AI research and development
Hi Dean has anyone ever discussed the knowledge taught as a virtual reality experience? Anyone at all? And is there any more discussion about it being something eligible for student loan?
Virtual Reality is above my pay grade, It is also something I have not thought about since you mentioned it. I presume that would or could be the future. I like to be ahead of the development curve so thank you for making me aware of this. I think once Apple or Google take their mapping to another level and create drivable video rather than snapped pictures. Regarding Loans, It would seem that no government or council is going to give loans. What is happening at present is PHV app operators have started to change their business plans. They have taken the PHV market to its limit and are finding it difficult to maintain drivers and also maybe their are too many operators. They are now paying their drivers to study he knowledge. (Freenow being the first, others will follow) Their idea is that whilst the driver is being funded they will stay on the PHV circuit longer.
@@WizAnn320 Yeah. Driving a car for PHV all day and then a Motorcycle all day will be a mighty fatigued brain. Almost insanity but whoever is doing it gets respect. I think the win would be cheap ass living accommodation, like £350 a month as close to a knowledge school as possible. And a couple of shifts a week doing any work to pay for the living costs and the study costs. Virtual reality study even on Google maps would be a game changer. But that’s true I didn’t think of the schools and the tech costs. But if you had a dude who lived in Manchester who wanted to be a green badge and could learn from home without going all in on a London move with no money for 2-4 years. Then it would be brilliant in that respect
I know that because you have raised my awareness of how virtual reality will progress that it will be an option to implement in the future. I know the old guard will be up in arms about it and see it as some kind of sacrilege, but the fact would remain that if you can pass the exams you will be a taxi driver regardless of the method you used. Once you have passed you will then learn to be a taxi driver @@PoletstarLuke

Much appreciated Paulo! I think we are maybe getting too relaxed
Great podcast. That's the 2nd time iv heard mention the knowledge going down to 4 miles. Very intresting.
Yes i think that idea wont happen but it did get thought about, which is a bad sign in itself
Great video again Dean. Well done!!
