Is there any app or book for practicing this test? Please advise..
Hi Dean, firstly, great videos, really appreciate them. Any chance, any chance for a video with examples of doing point to point? I have watched some of your videos that suggest method of deduction, an example of how that is done please. Many thanks in advance
I started the knowledge in 1999 and completed my blue books but then moved to Asia for work in 2000 so never went any further. I have had 25 Great years in Asia working in 5 countries but respect to all those who get their green badge as it requires huge commitment and hard work. And it's so good to see the industry attracting these young people with such a positive attitude.
Thank yo Alan for that. Maybe one day you will return and be cabbie
Hi there, are there more runs on the bluebooks that are prohibited for Knowledge boys & girls to go on using their scooters? Would we have to go on foot for runs like these? I can see that list 1 run 5 requires you to go through Oxford Circus, however only busses, taxis and bicycles are allowed at any time.
You must read the traffic signs. The runs are for Taxis, Many routes will be taxis only
Do you have any advice - I go over like 4 runs and then next day move onto another 4 but then I completely forget what I’ve gone over the previous day. I repeat and go over the day I learn but just cannot remember any runs the next day
First understand it is not about remembering it is about using. You must call the runs everyday, this is the usage. with constant use they become easier but they will never be remembered in your long term memory. When you are learning a run it is called as you are driving it, then as you finish it. Then as you finish the second run you always call the first. When you finish the fourth you call all four. You then go how and call all four again. Before you go to bed you call all four again then first thing in the morning you call all four again. You then call that four every morning for as long as you are on the knowledge. Each day adding another four to the regime
I do not understand this if Mr Harvey was sacked because his scoring rate was higher, why Mr Patel and Mr Guning scoring rate is Less than 35%, anyways i fully agree i dont want to waste my time studying them.
I don't think it is accurate to say Mr Harvey was sacked for scoring higher it was a little more complicated than that. But statistically you do not have a very high chance of scoring with Patel or Gunning, you are correct.
Hello Dean, Do you see much need in having a board on the front of your bike? I'm in the process of buying a bike and cant really see the point of having a board fixed on. lots of your advice is more directed towards commiting to memory rather than having it in front of you. What do you think?
Now with technology it is much less important to have a board. You are better off with a bracket to hold whatever device you are using
are these runs still update as of 2025?
Yes I am not aware of any updates required
@@WizAnn320 thanks for replying so quick, you guys are doing amazing job, I was on the fence about doing my black licence but watching your videos convinced me to do it. I am going to sign up to your school at the end of the month.
@@mahamoudhussain5110 you’re welcome also these videos are updated if anyone makes us aware. Welcome to the knowledge
Whats the new rule regarding out of uk 90days or more you nust get a dbs check from wherever you were outside the uk...wouldn't most places give the finger ,nothing to do with us.
I don't know about this rule i will need to investigate it
I recently passed my medical at 50 years , preparation was the key exercise and healthy eating
Not always possible but you are right. I do think our generation are a lot more health aware than 40 years ago. We are fitter and look younger in general
@@WizAnn320 The younger generation are going to have serious health issues when they get older, unhealthy diet bad habits and no motivation to exercise they are going to be in trouble,
Euston to putney...westway,shepherd bush ,Hammersmith, Fulham Palace rd,
Yes many would agree with you
Thanks for another great video. Based on this, it seems like bike work isn't that important until the written exam is complete and you're on to point to point. Is this accurate or have I misunderstood?
Thanks James, Not exactly right. Bike work is very important but the least important of the disciplines. Many people over prioritise bike work over Point to Point and Point revision. Doing your bluebook runs is bike work, then collecting points is bike work. But you must do 15 hours a week point to point and this should never be compromised. You can always compromise on bike work
The best advice from this podcast was be careful what you tell your GP and happy new year hopefully this is my last year on the knowledge as I’m getting fed up of it. as a qualified personal trainer. A plane can’t fly with just one wing just like life go on a diet that is easy to follow for you and doesn’t drain be balance as long as your working out calories in vs calories out . I let me self go on the knowledge stressed I was 3-1 down stressed so I joined the gym lost 13kg in under 3 months and brought it back to 3-3. I was still throwing in cheat meals while losing weight it’s just about balance I don’t believe in extreme diets.
Mate, The Knowledge is a joke... I spent 3 and a half years on the Knowledge and quit... It was an absolute nightmare and the examiners were so f**king unfair and cruel... I worked so bloody hard... I got sent back to the beginning of 28's at 3-3 by Patel... He didn't score me intentionally and sent me back on purpose... He's a very nasty person/examiner... the next 28's I was 2-0 up and then got sent back again at 4-2 by Mr Hall... I decided to quit because the examiners were taking the piss... The Knowledge was ruining my life and I got fed up of it... I became overweight and started having money issues because of the Knowledge... my mates dad was a cabbie for 13 years and he lost his badge because of 6 points... I was shocked and couldn't believe it! This was one of the main reasons why I decided to quit... I couldn't stop thinking about losing my badge... What is the point of going through hell with these awful examiners and getting your badge only to lose it from 6 points... This is so unfair by TFL and Its just not worth it anymore... Please Keep a back up plan and best wishes on your journey!
Absolutely, Balance and discipline. Nothing is easy but with the right mindset everything is possible
@@WizAnn320 what do you think about MrMax.357 6 points and your out for all the work we do in the knowledge.
To all those that are considering doing the Knowledge... Please take this as a WARNING!!!... This was my experience on the Knowledge and why I quit. I want to warn people as I don't want them to go through what I experienced. I spent just over 3 years on the Knowledge, I got through 56's first round and then 3-3 on 28's and got sent back to the beginning of 28's at 3-3! by Patel (he's a scumbag) He didn't score me intentionally... I was pissed but said I'll have another go at 28's... On my second attempt I was 2-0 up and then got sent back again by Hall 4-2... These examiners are absolute heartless piss takers and they don't score you intentionally. These examiners are not nice people and they will make you suffer... Most of them are narcissists and they're holding students back to secure their jobs and pensions as the numbers of students on appearances is currently at an all time low... I'm a Londoner born and bred and They didn't want to give me my badge... I became so good on the map that the examiners were giving me really hard stuff intentionally as if they didn't want to score me... Long runs end to end on the map with tricky points... I said F**K IT! I can see what is going on and I'm not going to play their dirty game so I quit! Many other students have experienced this also. I was having a hard time Yet the amount of foreigners that couldn't even speak English very well that I saw were getting their badges before me... It was truly shocking... There is definitely something dodgy going on here. I saw this too many times... In total I bought 2 bikes costing me £10,000 after 1 got stolen. I lost well over £15,000 per year in earnings as I was only working part time X3 that is £45,000+ in losses... If school fees and other costs are included... I easily lost well over £65,000 in 3 years doing the Knowledge!!! Now... If you do eventually get your badge, If you get just 6 points on your licence then you lose your badge and can't re apply for 7 years, If you get 3 points you're badge is then suspended for 3 months! WTF!!! You will work your heart and soul to get the badge and Spend 6 hours everyday doing map work and bike work and these heartless cruel examiners still won't score you. There is currently an 80% dropout rate on the Knowledge mentioned by TFL and some people have been on the Knowledge for over 10 YEARS just to become a LONDON TAXI DRIVER!!! I would STRONGLY advise people NOT to do the Knowledge as there is no guarantee that you will get your badge even after years on the Knowledge with valuable time and money lost... I just want people to know the truth before they decide to do the Knowledge... If you do decide to attempt the Knowledge then I wish you GOOD LUCK but do so at your own peril as I WISH I NEVER started the Knowledge.
Well done on finishing Phil. Hopefully a Happy New Year for you and hopefully it all gets sorted soon👍
What is the Taxi story on Reddit called
Sorry you need to remind me more about the context, I don't remember what this is referencing
You said there was a story on Reddit about a taxi
Hope he's got his badge before making this video. As for speaking. Out against them is risky buisnes.
Hasn't got it yet but progress seems to be being made
Wow some pretty crazy claims. Fair play to the guy he sounds like hes had some bad luck in hes life. I cant help but think hes been asked the hospital bankers but the examiner that normally hands them out she doesnt seem the kind to do it on purpose.
I think I give the examiner the benefit of the doubt on this one. I love Phil
@@Tommyfletch7790 If you want to meet up, I can play you the recordings from the examiners racially abusing me, and he clearly tells me who he is before the abuse, 🤷🏼♂️
Cant believe after 5 months still no badge, id be fuming. Sounds like you went through hell and back mate, youll value it more once youre finally out there in the cab 💪
Get the union to sort it.
Phil that isn't right at all, we've helped you by putting you in touch with the UCG even though you're not a member they're pursuing TFL for you. You should have mentioned this in the video .. they do alot for students and drivers , more than anyone else .
We dont have a union but i do feel we should have. I am a fan of a closed shop type of thing in our industry.
@@hptaxicompany7059 Hi Paul On a previous text to you, you asked me not to mention about UCG that’s why I haven’t mentioned it to Dean or on the podcast, but when I was having problems with the examiners, everyone knew about it but nobody wanted to help even though I had recordings of examiners verbally and racially abusing me and now I finished it they are holding my badge up for no reason they have seen all the medical evidence from a cardiologist professor and some of the best spinal surgeons we have in the country, the only people that should lose their job here are the examiners that caused this problem,
@PhilLeech-v2l I'm a member of both ltda and ucg as a kniwledge student. Knowledge students get free membership. And they've definitely helped other Knowledge students that I know a lot
@@hptaxicompany7059 Dean did get in touch regarding one complaint with TfL but as for the rest of the problems with TfL I sorted them out myself with Mr Whitehead,
Great video Dean. The application process is a nightmare. I applied 9 months ago and still haven't been accepted. Firstly they lost my DBS certificate which added 3 months to it. And now there's an alcohol misuse on my medical history from nearly 20 years ago. None of them at TFL are medical professionals so they don't understand the evidence my doctor has sent to them. And they take forever to reply to emails, it's ridiculous.
In recent years something has definitely changed in regards to how they interpret criminal record, health issues and driving offences. They seem to be intent on eliminating as many people as possible from the pool of people. Which is already at its lowest in history
Poor guy, what a terrible experience, but on a lighter note when he does get out he’s gona end up with a record amount of nicknames!🤣
Please give a few examples, it would be great
fibrillation phil
Phil the fib!
The doctors nightmare
Sicknote
‘I was fucking useless’ tickled me. But all jokes aside something has to change with the way the medicals are done. It’s ludicrous to still not have your badge that long after completing the Knowledge!.
Yes the medical is hard. It did more than tickle me too when he said it. You have to laugh or you would cry
This is why people are not doing the Knolwedge something is not right are we moving closer to a 1 tier system and Dean I’m not being negative in anyway
Personally I think it's more to do with the "want it now" culture that's come about, a lot of people these days don't want to work for things anymore, especially when you can apply for a PH badge and get it a lot quicker. It's sad really but personally I think that's a big part of it
To some point I do agree with you but 30 years on we still only have one Taxi to choose from well until next year but it’s the pricing system a lot of the garages say yes 350 a week is good but we’re only making them money, you will never become an outright owner becoming rent free does give a cab driver a lot more freedom I think since lockdown there has been a lot more opportunities for people to go in different directions electricians HGV plumbing the system that TfL adopted for the knowledge is their downfall certain examiners didn’t move with the times and like to get a name for themselves as the hardest examiners personally I think they’ll be the ones looking for a new job come next year but that’s only my opinion
No not negative at all when you raise a serious point. We should keep our guard up. If it is to be a one tier system we need to make sure its the PHV tier that disappears
Well... Why bother with the Knowledge when you can lose your badge with just 6 points... Its just not worth it in my eyes... I spent well over 3 years on the Knowledge and quit because these examiners were taking the absolute piss with me... I didn't get my badge... Had I just gone to uber I would have had a job instantly and even though I would earning less than a cabbie would earn at least I'd be out earning... also, just think of all the money I lost whilst I was on the Knowledge... The Knowledge is one BIG gamble... The Knowledge will end soon... The numbers are dropping fast and its clear that TFL just don't want taxis anymore... Very sad...
@@bells1969 I agree with you mate! I spent over 3 years on the knowledge and quit! I was at 3-3 on 28's and got sent back to the beginning of 28's at f**king 3-3! That Patel didn't score me intentionally... He's a king size wanker, horrible person... Second round of 28's I was 2-0 up and Hall did me 4-2... Mr Hall was another examiner being unnecessarily hard on students...These examiners destroyed the knowledge with their pathetic egos... They made it even harder at a time when the ship is already sinking.. You're absolutely right.. They'll be needing new jobs very soon... Best wishes!
The whole situation regarding renewing or applying for your licence is truly insane. Just listening to this is boiling my urine.
Spent two days trying to think of a hilarious quip about boiling urine. I have nothing, thats why you are the professional🫡

Happy Christmas and Happy new year!🖖
Dean is right about saying that, he doesn't think the txe is expensive. Its not if you do it properly and that is with a decent deposit and why not get a cash loan instead with a lower rate ? Also there is a second hand market with warranty now. The running costs outside of the vehicle cost will absolutely smash the running costs of any previous cabs the trade has had. Lastly dont forget about capital allowance
Completely agree obviously
@WizAnn320 Ha , I see what you did there
From a young age i have always bought as much as I can and using as much cash as I can to purchase. This has also been the case as my time as a cabbie, I have owned 2 cabs and only rented for my first 10 months. The property i live in is also owned with 100% equity, all this has made my working life easier and not had to work so hard as generally speaking , i have not had to find as much money compared to if i were renting a property and renting a cab.
A man after my own heart. I always buy with money i have. I hate repayments and the only time i have had then is for property which i always pay off as quickly as possible.
Why have you bleeped out the swearing? Kills the podcast.
Cant get everything right
Recently received communication from a friend outlining a plain being overseen by suzanne sullivan to introduce parking wardens at Heathrow feeder park, in return for doing a 2 hour stint these wardens /taxi driver's will be rewarded by being given two rides, Firstly how are these drivers to be selected ie will it be a ballot? secondly isn't this creating a two tier system where it can take up to four hours in the park sometimes to do one ride, yet in this time these wardens will be or could be completing their second rides, I feel the need for this to be fully explained I remember the taxi Marshalls who used to work the terminals looking out for touts, these Marshalls were also rewarded with rides which i never agree with with, the amount of money being paid to use the park it should be HALs job to supply these so called wardens coming from the entry fee generated from the drivers, as Hal approach the LTDA because they do not want to finance these wardens and therefore looking at this as a cost cutting exercise but at the same time creating the possibility of conflict between drivers, I see there could be trouble ahead if this takes off,
OK i shall attempt to be a contrarian here on a subject i do not know a lot about, Firstly this is really a question for Suzanne. If you give the warden one ride then they may as well not work and sit and wait like everyone else. I think the second ride is the incentive and payment. If you employed someone not based on incentives how much would you want to be paid for your two hours? And finally HAL don't have to do anything it seems if they don't want to or don't benefit from it so it is left for someone to do. And double finally, what would your idea be?
@@WizAnn320 ive spoken with Suzanne and found her to be an extremely nice and pro taxi rep, there were things posted?, and as a cabby for well over 30 years I decided to go to the source itself, what I found was a total amount of crap set aside for this women who's only intentions is to assist and help others and to promote this trade, I do hope that those responsible will take a good hard look in the mirror and respect the work she's doing
@@GaryGary-zf9wj yel alot.of lies been written in a certain taxi publication. Unpleasant people
Hi Dean .thanks for making this video . As you already mentioned about those points which never been asked before. I am subscribed to your daily sheet , but each time I face Mr Gunning or Mr Patel I get asked dozens of points which I never heard off. Is there any published list of points by TFL etc or they just asked randomly any thing ? I always fail badly with Mr gunning
You can not plan for the unknown. It is easier to just practise all the other examiners and hope you score there. No matter what you study of the examiners you mention you will not increase your chances of scoring. There is a list of points coming soon that you can learn that they must ask from but it wont make much of a difference
Such a moving goal post this game? So if I got the knowledge within the next 2 years is there likely gonna be work for me within the next 20 to 30+ years. I hear "games dead" soooo often then I hear "games best its ever been"...what do I believe? 100k for a badge is absolutely ridiculous, are we really going that way?
I know this video can be scary and seem negative but the truth is this negativity has been the same for the past 40 years or so. I presume things will change one day but the job is still currently a great job
Hi Dean, With your new location in Greenwich, will you be closing down the school in e14 ? I live in Essex. I wanted to come to the school in the New Year but didn’t know if you’re moving locations to Greenwich or not.
Both locations will be open and members will have full access to both locations
Do I need to book a appointment to visit you on Tuesday or Thursday to get information about knowledge
Hi, No appointment necessary just call first to see if staff are there between 10 and 2
Hi dean, great video Is it possible to do the runs in a car or is getting a bike necessary?
Yes, absolutely, BUT a bike is best and is going to make the knowledge easier and quicker in most cases
I'm on blue book 3, but I'm not in TfL's current numbers because I am still waiting for a medical (I will admit that I put it off for a while, but the GP has more important people to see before me!). Why can't I sign on and go to my initial talk before I get a DBS check and Medical, why can't these be a requirement for sitting the map test instead? (with an emphasis on doing them ASAP). The good news though is that someone high up did watch this, and seems like some of this stuff did get done, but I would support 28, 21, and 14 intervals. Everyone gets richer with more people on the knowledge.
Good stuff Rhys. I think they cant let you start until the DBS or Medical is completed in case they refuse you and need to give you a refund.
@WizAnn320 makes sense. Medical's booked in for the 30th, so I should be at my initial talk soon! My main concern is that people who know nothing of the knowledge will certainly not be willing to spend over £300 just to get that initial talk. I personally went to Knowledge Point's Thursday night talk after watching Tom Hutley's youtube channel, and using their free sample runs, but that took a lot of research to find these options and it's something most people won't do. I bought WizAnn's book because it was cheaper at the time. I do now belive you've got it the right way round.
Love Trevor.
Me too!
Maintain your identity don’t lose it
I agree
Excellent podcast 👍🏻
Thanks for listening
I honestly don’t understand I’ve seen some questions getting ask on 28s even 56 sometimes where the only way your answering that is if you’ve been on the knowledge for years I don’t get it we are so low in numbers I’m not saying make it easy but if someone is almost done 3-3 28 why make their life harder give them something they will actually do on the cab that’s why I like mcdowell a lot he’s question you will do them On the cab I don’t believe in to studying examiner we are being tested on the map so that’s what I’m doing learning the map.
It is true some appearances are extremely difficult. But this has always been the case and does increase the luck element
Good video Dean mate. This is so bang on. I’ve been out in the cab just over a month now, & in hindsight, the single biggest thing I would’ve done differently during my KoL journey, would’ve been to do more map work / P2P during the early stages of Blue Books. Learn more now - It will help you in the long run. Good luck & be lucky 🍀
Thank you Danny. It is very apparent that having done all the bluebook runs will not make you an instant point to point genius. It is a progressive thing that really should start after 80 runs
Thank you dean
You're Welcome Best Wishes Dean

I am not sure what the reference is here but presume its from the video I cant remember
Random question. When is the DBS done? At point of starting the journey or when done all runs/ tests done and just applying for your badge?
The do a DBS at the start and at the finish. It is crucial you disclose everything. Anything held back will be found and they will refuse your application
