Here's a tip if you use 60% or 65% mechanical keyboard use only 2 layers of mtx tape but if you have 70% 80% 100% use 3 layers of tape only don't go 4 tape or else it wouldn't work

Every keyboard can be modded actually.. The only difference is that hot swappable is easier to remove the switches rather than spending huge time by soldering those so if you have non hot swappable which means you'll find it no difference when taping it because you're clearly removing the keyboard parts so at that same point you can remove your switches from there too
Is it safe to use painters tape though? I saw a video of ClickandSwitch doing 7 mods. She said she almost started a fire using painter's tape and it's safer to use electrical tape if there is a battery.
Just modded Hyper x Alloy Origins 65%t some hours ago it feels amazing, it feels poppy and in general amazing. I really like it. But the problem was making the holes, it was the hardest part.

most likely not since the masking tape's adhesive is not that strong and you could just rip it off with ease. in fact, you could put a strip on a paper and remove it without actually causing the paper to tear

hi tycottle, thanks for the content. i have keychron q5 pro. and i want to use tape mod as well. people said you should use painters tape because it wont leave a residue so i purchased a good brand. now im checking web again to be %100 sure however some people said battery might got heated and tape could catch on fire. however my painter tape has high heat resistance (80 degree celcius - 176 fahrenheit) can i use this painter tape? i never feel my keyboard is hot, it'll always cold with aluminium frame and i never turn on rgb also. should i buy electrical tape which could leave residue but i guess it wont catch on fire or painter tape is good/better? lastly if i use painter tape mod. how many layers i should apply, 3,4,5? and should i apply tape to whole pcb or should i leave some parts open, is there a thing i should be careful?
don't worry, tape doesn't interfere at all with the switch press the mod are on the backside of the pcb (board) as long as the switch pin connects to the pcb board, the keyboard will work. the switch still click internally
mine too, I use 3 layer electrical tape and 4 layer 0.5mm PE foam, leaving capacitor untaped currently going okay (3 months) note: reduce layer as needed, just make sure the wire port is and the on of switch unblocked.

Every keyboard can be modded actually.. The only difference is that hot swappable is easier to remove the switches rather than spending huge time by soldering those so if you have non hot swappable which means you'll find it no difference when taping it because you're clearly removing the keyboard parts so at that same point you can remove your switches from there too
