In the heart block, you can use shape 9 of the corners companion set or the old classic companion set, which is a chisel, in place of making that shape out of a 2 inch square and a half square triangle.
But Y seams on the X block are really difficult to do, and I have done plenty of Y seams on other things such as hexagons. But there is a very easy workaround which is the signature block which is shape 10 in the corners companion set or the old classic companion set. For each X block, cut 4 signature blocks out of your colored fabric and 12 of the shape 5 half square triangles out of white. Sew 2 of the half square triangles onto the long sides of the signature block, then add a third at one end in the same arrangement and trim off the small amount of excess colored fabric underneath that remains. Then join the four quadrants together to make a nice flat easy to make X block.
Diane, what a great suggestion to make this quilt easier to create! The reason we did not use the companion sets while making this quilt is because the companion sets were not around at the time. It would be almost a whole year after this video when the companion sets we know and love now were created!

@@accuquilt Might be time for a new pattern instruction for this adorable quilt, as well as a new video.
@@accuquilt And change the heart block instructions also, to use the chisel.
Why aren’t the actual patterns shown, that being said, I made the heart, it the pattern itself is not labeled such as a b c or 1 2 3?
