If I was a kid again I would 100% be playing this. Odd that they chose characters for the goals with standard pawns as the pieces instead of characters for the pieces and items like fire flower, Starman, and feather for the goals.
Too logical haha
I tried the Labyrinth: Team Edition as an adult and it is really fun.
Disappointed that they didn’t use green pipes. Kind of feels like a missed opportunity.
There is a slightly more tactical and strategic follow-up to the classical Labyrinth (verrücket Labyrinth) called Master Labyrinth (Labyrinth der Meister), in which the items have numbers from 1-20 and a 25, and you must take items in ascending order. The numbers also represent the points you get for each item, which keeps the possibility of catchup, and, thus, tension high up to the end. You also get dealt a card showing three random items which give you bonus points. Furthermore, everyone gets three sticks that let you take double turns. Everything else is exactly the same, but these modifications and additions make it just that little bit more interesting for adults. The artwork on the tiles and items in Master Labyrhinth is really beautiful, and the rule book comes with a short explanation of the medieval beliefs surrounding each item, and even the sticks, which are meant to represent splinters from wooden signposts that were thought to bring good luck.
The Monopoly money tie looks nice on the grey shirt! Grey and black matches seal of approval.
I really appreciate when you give an adult rating and a score for kids. Too many people underate kids games because they rate as adult games. Keep your good work :)
And here I was intrigued by a Mario themed Labyrinth, the one with the marble and knobs. Sad times.
I played this game (not this version) with my therapist as a kid and loved it, I remember him telling me that this game couldn’t be found in the US.
Yay first comment!. I wish the game incorporated a little variant with the Mario theme. They could have added coins that get pushed off for. additional points.
Agreed
Punch-Out!! cards? Sounds like another Nintendo reference to me.
I played this game with my kids before they knew numbers and could use dice. You start out cooperatively, until they figure out for themselves how to move the pieces. Then they are ready to play competitively. Works really well!
It is a classic for a reason and Mario theme does add something. Nice review!
Looking at the board I much preferred the old version. Art looked better
Looks cool.
Would love to know what you think of the Teams Edition which bring in a cooperative approach!
I thought you deal out all the cards evenly to each player. Everyone has their own deck and you look on the top card and hunt for that treasure. First person to find all the treasure in their deck and make it back to their starting spot is the winner. For kids they can look at the whole deck like a hand of cards instead of just the top card.
we do that as well, but also put a spin on it to where if we bump into another player we can take one of their cards and put it back in their "to find" hand. We only do this if we are able to have all of the cards face up at once otherwise the game would take foreeeever
@@davidreed2626 cool. Ya I was just saying that he was explaining the game wrong right off the bat.
Labyrinth is the game that got my whole family into the board gaming hobby. I would say for adults, the puzzle is a little too simple (I would love a more advanced take using the same mechanism), but for kids, it’s pretty much perfect.
Labyrinth: Team Edition is more difficult. We play against the game and some tiles are slid in upside-down, with a bolder blocking the path. It is still a kid's game, but it is fun for adults.
ok, few things.
a. my personal opinion's criticism first - I don't think using the words theme or version, for a 'layover' as you said (or skin), does good for the hobby. It's what fills toy stores with unnecssary cash grabs. Sure, better fitting and nicer Art is good to have, but bloating the shelves with the same game but different skin, takes room from more games. And it's usually the lesser games that get the 'many skins' treatment. not the better ones.
b. Agree. It's a good game for kids. A rather unique challenge of route manipulation. (I do wish to find this challenge in another, less same-y game). Actually I prefer to recommend to a family 'labyrinth junior' at a younger age, which is the same game, just smaller, where the samey-ness nature at younger ages isn't a big deal and families are more inclined to 'move past those games' after a while instead of just keeping them and forgetting about the huge variety of today's board game hobby
2:39 you’re welcome 4:11
We played a work on our dinner break. It got really mean with blocking each over
Try Labyrinth: Team Edition. It is a cooperative version, you will all helping each other.
I have no idea why they haven't made a Minecraft version yet.
I still consider Labyrinth a decent game for adults, maybe as a filler, or as a chill game, maybe I just like puzzles and abstract games.
You may want to try Labyrinth: Team Edition, it is, for me, a better version.
@@ghyslainabel thanks, I'll look into it.
Seems really okayish. But for kids the theme alone is probably cool.
Anyone else dislike the recent suffixes added to the video titles? It's messing up searches and is distracting unnecessary info.
I just find it distracting and unnecessary. Pretty sure it was either Chris or Roy's idea. Not a big deal but again, unnecessary.
Some are misses for me, but I enjoy some of the jokes, and I don't find it messes up my searches at all. Searching 'Dice Tower (name of game)' works just fine as normal for me.
What a crappy theme, they made no effort whatsoever 😅😅.
I have no idea why they haven't made a Minecraft version yet.
