  • This is another tune that tends to get beat up in beginner sessions, but I've had a few friends playing it rather cool lately so I figured I'd give it a blast here.

Yes! Needs groove and a little fun, even at slower speeds. I recently started playing a mixo version, basically just sharping the Cs in the A part. Learned it from a recording of a one-row D box player named William Sullivan. Just that one note's difference gave the tune new life for me, and it seems to go over well in sessions. But gah I don't want to end a set with it, or people will still want to play that dreadful C...B...AAAAAA coda thing and I'll lose my mind.

Hahahaha - I feel you man, one of the guys I play with found this wicked setting in Gm and he busts that out from time to time. Definitely makes things more interesting!

Hi Sean - do you the tune, "The Shepard's Flute"? It is 5/4 which I'm trying to get the feel of. Maybe other 5/4s?

I'm afraid I don't know any 5/4 tunes as there aren't any of those in traditional Irish music.
