This is the coolest collaboration project that I've ever seen! I have too many parts that are my favorite: the home-made dies, the attention to details (cold chiselling off the slag), the solutions to problems (setting up large pieces in front of the forge and surrounding them with fire bricks, the many decades of experience all working together, and of course... The final piece! The gap between the doors are absolutely perfectly symmetrical! I like the other side not welded; it gives the doors added personality and it wasn't needed anyway. Thank you for posting this video!
I love how you said that even the finished gate has a missing piece, it shows that things can look great without being perfect, but I noticed it actually has TWO missing pieces haha
It's gorgeous looking. What's more to say. A touch I personally think would look cool. If you could find some coin sized medallions (or a hundred) with a flower, bamboo or appropriate pattern on them to put in the major centers. I was thinking they could be inlaid using a magnetic boring drill and flat cutting endmill. They would cover the pattern joins but still look crisp.

If I may recommend. Try digging a shallow hole, and using giant plastic sheets and make a bath to put the gates in(or any larger piece of metal), and then use electroplating to make sure it will never rust. It creates a phenomenal result and it is nearly guaranteed to last more than a lifetime then. The hinges often last much longer too because it's a microscopic bond with the material. So as long as its greased, it will last ages...
It would be easier to form up a shallow box with a plastic sheet liner. The tricky part would be flipping it over. Now that its in place it won’t be happening.

I'm following your channel some months now and it seems like everything you touch turns into a masterpiece. But these gates are another level somewhere in the upper hemisphere. Love it, love your work and I'm so glad you share it. Keep on doing what you do, Pask, Matt, Tim and Corin!
Thanks very much Patrick! :)
