In 2010, I wrote the Gaptastic Cowl pattern and posted it on Ravelry, thinking no one would see it but me. I didn’t check ravelry for awhile, and then my local yarn shop let me know it had blown up online. 😂 I think now there are over 20,000 Gaptastics on Ravelry.
i would love to see more videos on popular or infamous patterns! ive been crocheting for nearly 10 years, and known how to knit since then as well, but ive only really gotten good at knitting in the past year. so im quite a bit behind on what the knitting community is like and would love to see more vids like this.
I resist things when they start trending . lol BUT you make me want to give it a go. I had no idea it was so versatile. My mother beat breast cancer last year and is focusing on her health and healing. Perhaps she would want one as a gift ❤she deserves it Thank you

I hate Ranunculus - I really dont like it. I am like you: miss interest when its too trendy. But I think people loves it because they succeed in making it, though they did not knit for so long and it fits everybody.
I have knit one ranunculus (so far) and I love it. Initially I was not drawn to the loose gauge, but once I saw some in a tighter gauge I got the pattern. And then I pushed my own preferences and knit it at a loose-ish gauge (17 st) with fingering and mohair. And I love it. Here’s my take on one of the reasons it has stayed in the top 10 on Ravelry for years…. To watch the tutorials, you cannot link straight from the pattern… she takes you back to the Ravelry page first, then the link goes to the video tutorial. My understanding about the ‘Hot Right Now’ list is that it is based on the number of views. So every time we click on a pattern in Ravelry it gets boosted. Sending us through the Ravelry page for tutorials is a sweet trick. Maybe unintentional, but it certainly grows the snowball faster, by keeping it fresh on the Hot list.
I have knitted 10 Ranunculus. some for me, some for my daughter, some for a friend and her daughter. Two summer ones, a few in drops air, a few in CaMaRose Snefnug. It is such a versatile pattern. I could probably knit more in the future. It is a great gift, because we don't need specific measurements. Now I knit them in 5 days. I LOVE this pattern !!!
Midori Hirose is from Japan. I got into Japanese chrocheting some time ago, and it's out of this world. I have several pattern books in Japanese, and the pattern charts are so detailed and precise, I don' t need any written descriptions. And, of course, they are very beautiful, complex, and unusual. I fund that Japanese fiber artists are bringing their artistry to an entirely another level!

I think there are many things that contribute to the popularity of this pattern, but there is one I believe is an integral part of the secret sauce that gets overlooked. I think the way the first horizontal textured stitch lays on the tip of the shoulder gives such a flattering line and some structure so everything just drapes beautifully from there.
I love discussions about doing specific patterns like Ranunculous! It gets me interested in doing patterns I may not have thought about. Keep bringing them!
I've made a Ranunculus in sizes 1 - 8 for myself. I am a bust size 42". I wear the different sizes depending on what kind of look I'm going for. I generally use a worsted weight yarn. I love this pattern. I've made this for myself, my daughter, friends and sister-in-law!
I have made 2 Ranunculus. One was in dk cotton/linen and one in worsted wool. Both are lovely and fit great! It is an excellent pattern! Well written, detailed with options. As far as 'value for money' the pattern cant be beat!
I am on my second one and agree with other posters. There is enough interest in the early stages and then you fly thru the stockinette portion. I do just a long tail cast on in the larger version and I find it is not wide at all - sits exactly how I like it. My first one was short sleeve, although I did add a couple of additional rows and then did I cord bindoff. The current one is elbow length sleeves finished with ribbing. It is hugely versatile, can be knitted oversized or more fitted, you can do different rib techniques, the video tutorials are excellent, you can make an open fabric or more dense. Endless options.
Thanks for the inspiration. I had a beautiful one skien of yarn that I started a shawl with but frogged it as it wasn't showing off the yarn, started another one, saw your podcast and immediately bought the pattern (first pattern I have ever bought on ravelry) frogged the second shawl and started the ranunculus, loving it so far. I am sure I will be making more 😅.
Thank you for bringing this pattern’s virtues to further attention. I never got around to it because I hate ‘big necklines’ since it makes no sense for the cold and windy weather. But you are right about the neckline. I usually do my own maths to adjust every sweater/jumper pattern and this one is just as well easy enough to accommodate. I never really looked it up so I was not aware of the versatility with yarn weights built into the pattern instructions. I have adjusted patterns for different yarn weights before. Your video is cool 👍🏼 This reminds me of the Musselburgh of which I have knitted six so far
Pattern with options are always a great investment in my opinion. This one doesn't have different gauges but helps you find your perfect yarn for the gauge that is recommended.
I’ve never knit a sweater before, but I think this will be my beginner pattern. About 2 years ago, a found the most divine dove grey mohair/silk blend, and saw that pattern the same day. I did the pattern calculations, bought the yarn, and decided I would learn to knit. I just finished my most complex project to date, a Celtic knot cabled mitt pattern, and I think I’m finally ready! This video helped me decide it’s about time to cast on. :)
I love this pattern so much and have made at least 15 maybe more and have given more than 5 of them as gifts for the very reason you mentioned, they look good on just about everyone. I have made two long sleeved ones from my handspun because I knew that they would work without worry using my not so consistent yarn. They both looked fantastic on me. I have ones from fingering weight, dk, worsted and even bulky. I have used mohair, silk, wool and wool silk blend and each one has drape and style. Long, short, sleeved or sleeveless, it doesn’t matter, this is a super special pattern!
I have made two, one in wooly wool, one in linen, love them both . My reason for loving it is the many different stitches in in the yoke, none that go on forever leading to boredom, and all are fun to learn and do. If you mess one up it doesn't stick out badly because of the loose gauge. The pattern also shows you the sections AND the options for what part you are working on.

This is the reason I made a Ranunculus. I didn't like the original photos, but I saw photos of linen t-shirt versions and I loved them so I made my own. It's not cropped, it's more fitted that the pattern photos, and I love it!
ive always seem more of the summery versions of the ranunculus, but the chunky one actually made me interested in it, it would fit perfectly into my closet. Well, maybe next year

You touched on this in the video, but I'd LOVE a little hit list of patterns that can use up that one skein of 4ply we all have sitting in stash... maybe looking at a few options for solids, semi-solids, and variegated?
I absolutely love this pattern. I’ve made 6 so far. I knitted it long sleeve short sleeve, acrylic, cotton, wool blend, wool, linen blend. I love each and every one of them.

I actually already made the Sophie scarf, and I purchased the complimentary pattern to make the shawl. I'm getting a couple projects out of the way before I cast on the shawl.
@@skeinofadifferentcolor2090 it is always a case of ‘not being able to knit fast enough’ and the bucket list is so long that you can’t even quantify the time duration needed for that volume of knitting. I am working on a cable sweater that got started last winter and I frogged the front and back once, then the sleeves twice because the instructions for the sleeves is completely wrong. And that is when doing my own maths should have come unto the scene ‘before’ I even started the thing. Rowan instructions can be rather wacky and bloodless to say the least. Every single sweater/jumper I have knitted needed me to ‘rework’ the pattern numbers in order to get a personalized garment. Life would be simpler if I did not have to expend so much time with the maths & geometry of it all. To follow a pattern and not have to do anything else would be faster

What I DO like very much are the two colourwork sweaters you have on your chair and behind you. I'll look at other vids to see if you have covered those in other vids but if you have a moment, could you kindly mention the design & designer here? Thanks for this. I've seen this pattern more than once from other knit podcasters. I have it in a list on my Ravelry page but have to jump on board yet. I guess the real sell is the large gauge and quickness of knit. Yeah, because there is SO MUCH to knit!!
I have knit three of them!! My favourite is made with a cheap sock yarn, one ball held with a lace mohair blend. My second favourite one is the one I made with Brooklyn Tweed Dapple!
I knit one in Isager alpaca 2 held double and one in Brooklyn Tweed shelter. Both have long sleeves with the diagonal cuff which was fun to knit and very pretty. Love them.
I think the Ranunculus is popular because local yarn stores hosted knitalongs with the promise of a sweater for only 1 skein. They could sell more expensive skeins that way. Personally, I sat that one out as the style is not for me, but I can see the appeal of a quick project and being able to afford a sweater out of luxury yarn that might otherwise be used only for shawls.

I am a new knitter and the ranunculus is my first sweater attempt. My reasons, 1, It’s loose. I hate any garment that is close to my skin. 2. There is a lot of help on line to explain each stitch row to a beginner like me. 3. I’m a professional spinner and handspun yarns seem to work well with loose gauges without overwhelming the texture in the design. 4. Everything you said. Very on point.
I resisted knitting one for a long time but then I saw one knit up at a yarn store, in lace and fingering weight yarn and fell in love! It was a great pattern to knit.

Omg! Thank you so much for making this video. I was actually the first person to ask why this pattern is so popular in the Ranunculus comment’s section on Ravelry. I didn’t get many answers but a few Ravelers messaged me expressing their own wonderment. Since then I have knit Satawal also by Midori Hirose. Her patterns are truly lovely, and designed so cleverly. If Ranunculus is anything like Satawal, I can understand why knitters love it. Oh, one more thing: I obsess daily over all the different patterns on Ravelry and have looked at literally thousands. At least to me, at the time Ranunculus came out in 2017, it did not appear to be vastly different then many other similar patterns I had seen however, I was still rather new to knitting at that time (and still consider myself newish) so perhaps I was not seeing it’s novelty as those who had been on Ravelry much longer then I. I have not finished watching your video so am super curious. 😆 Thank you again! ❤🙏🏽
I love this pattern! I had two different colors of the Lions Brand Summer Nights so i made one held single for summer and one held with mohair for winter. I also made one out of cotton for summer and another with mohair held double. Additionally i made one with boucle yarn that is for spring/beginning of summer since i can become a tad hot wearing it. After watching this i now would like to make another but maybe i can just gift it to someone 😀.
Just bought the pattern this past Spring, still haven’t casted on yet, looking forward to a worsted weightcast on this Fall, fingers crossed. I just finished a second lacy yoke T called modern art sweater, it’s reversible, by Stella Igidi. I made it a T with cotton, and a cotton/viscose mix for summer wearing. Idk if it’s on Ravelry, I obtained it from a book called the art of circular yokes. Love it so much, I’m sure to love raunoculous as well. I haven't made this pattern, though I bought it before the multi-size version was released. It was already popular then but not like now :-) I actually mapped out the pattern for the yarn I had in mind but I just didn't feel motivated in the end. Every time I thought of going back to it, something shinier came along. Of course Selma from Ottawa has made a zillion of these - and it's fun to watch her chat about them. Hell, my kid has made one. Truth is, I don't like round yokes, even when they also have raglan shaping. I made the Love Note, similar construtction, and I barely wear it - and I had to modify the crap out of that pattern. I'm also not nuts about lace yokes, in most instances, because they're just too busy all in one spot. And, I tend to wear fitted knits. So, while the designer has been the recipient of my money :-), and I know more about this pattern than some I've actually knitted, it's unlikely I'll make this sweater. I mean, if I haven't bothered by now...
For well over a year now I have been wanting to knit one soooooo bad but… I’m so intimidated! I really truly wish to cast one on after finishing one of my current sweater projects😅
I ve knit 4 or 5 Ranunculi. It’s popular because you can use any weight of yarn. I actually bought the pattern when it was one size fits all. I knit one in fingering (it fit well) but still ripped it out and added mohair!
I used to think I would never knit one, but this fall I decided to knit one for myself, and four more for Christmas presents for my book group. I’m knitting the third one right now, each one has taken about 9 days to complete ( while working on other projects). I’m loving the versatility of the pattern, and using all stash yarn. I just saw on Ravelry that the Clapotis shawl is celebrating 20 years and is being rereleased. I remember when everyone was knitting one. I still have one (somewhere) that I made way back when. There are over 23k projects on Ravelry.

I was knitting for 2 years before trying Ranunculus as my first, top down, in the round sweater. I come from the English tradition of following a written patern, stitch by stitch, knitting flat and sewing together. What Ranunculus taught me is that I can play around with numbers and gauge and have the confidence to alter patterns or design my own. I've made a Ranunculus in a blown alpaca yarn and one in cotton/silk. Each was made in about a week. It's been a great learning experience.
I’m a spinner and absolutely love to knit lace. As a result I tend to spin lace weight yarns. One of the main reasons why I started spinning is that my daughter has autism and absolutely hates restrictive, scratchy garments. This video makes me think the Ranunculus is a pattern I should give a go, spinning enough for it and enjoying knitting it, ultimately enjoying seeing my daughter wearing it over and over and over. I’m thinking my daughter would like me to make her one in Malabrigo Nube in the colourway Cereza (she's been eyeing it in my stash), perhaps blended with some alpaca for extra softness. Done in light weight yarn to ensure it feels light on her whilst wearing it. I guess I'll "have" to knit a sample "for myself" and see how often she "steals" it for herself… LOL.

Ooooh please do a deep dive on the Musselburgh hat! I see everyone making them but have never made one myself. I also haven't made a Ranunculus. To be honest, the super open gauge doesn't appeal to me nor does the oversized fit.
I've been seeing this pattern a lot, and I thought ok nice but other patterns with lace yoke etc are as much interesting... and now that you talked about it, and reading all the comments I understand why it is so popular. It's worthy ! So I just bought my copy😂. The one-fingering-weight-skein project definitely got me on Ranunculous side😊
I made one for myself in Acadia from the Fibre Company, long sleeves, small neck, longer length, quite conservative I guess because I'm older. Realize I could easily wear a younger more current looking version and will experiment with different yarns. Loved knitting this sweater and thank you for your video!
I bought the pattern super long ago to make with handspun yarn... since handspinning takes so long for a tiny bit of yarn, and this pattern doesn't eat up a lot of yarn... plus it's nice and loose so it could fit over my abayas and my work shirts (practical for modest girlies 😅) I lost the handspun in a move 😢 but now i got some other yarn looking at me that would be so great for a ranunculus, so I'm finally ready to make it... 6 years after buying my pattern! It's all about that long term planning lol I just need the right needles, and I'm good. I wonder if i could resize it for my daughters, they love to match me...
Sure do I like the Ranunculus. Started my first in febr 2022, and as we speak knitting my 17-th! Really! Today I bought beautiful yarn for an 18th. 3 of them I didn’t finish (bad yarn match) 8 I gifted away. I learned to be critical on yarns for “stitch definition”. IMPORTANT! Some don’t show the beautiful lacework very well: I avoid yarns that are too dark, avoid colorchanges or speckles. Avoid yarns that are fluffy, like for example letlopi. Doesn’t work. You can notie this on pictures on Ravelry too. I hope to knit Midori’s Twinkle and Paul Klee. But first I want to try Soldotna

But slowly I have watched this pattern evolve, from the provided modifications to the created modifications. I like that it can be knitted up with 1 skein. I think it may have to be my next cast on. I tried the Tin Can Knits Love Note in a fuzzy thinner yarn but the lace pattern was hard for me to catch. I tried and tried, Anyway, I kept going after the 4th try, mistakes and all. But think I am ready to do the ranunculus now. I like Midori Hirose's designs, Cherry is in my favourites too! I think because she is Japanese her last name is pronounced Hir-o-sé. I love your videos!

Hi there! I did make one a few years ago with a kit from Sonder. I like it, but I would not bother knitting another one unless it was a gift for someone. I was a volunteer at Knit City Toronto, and my friend and I made a game of counting all of the Ranunculi that we saw. it was absolutely astonishing. It is a nice sweater, but there are so many other sweaters out there that are beautiful and why keep knitting the same thing over and over again? That being said, I have knit several Lento sweaters, and it is a pattern that I love. I find it far more versatile in terms of yarn, and I intend to make a few more. Plus the fit is wonderful. So in a world of Ranunculi, why not be a Lento? 😊🇨🇦🇫🇮
@@ycward not the point. There are lots of beautiful lace sweaters out there, many of which I have made. What I like about the Lento is that it’s incredibly versatile. All of the ones I’ve made look very different.
The Non felted slipper pattern has 4500+ projects and works very fast. Key thing is an attached app with foot length and width and gauge for custom fit. I prefer to run a few rounds of ribbing at the top. These are great for charity knitting and non superwash yarn. The color play is fun too. I knot a pair in 4 hours.
I have noticed the popularity while looking for a first garment to knit. I think I am nearly ready to do a top with my skills. The option for no sleeves is definitely appealing since my magic loop still needs practice because of a bit of laddering! So close!
@@barbaramcewen practice. I snug up the first two stitches every switch over and hold them in place until I get a few more done. Do not snug too tightly

I have knit two so far. One very wooly worsted weight farm yarn and one suri alpaca and love them both. I’m planning to knit a third for my non-knitting sister who picked this pattern out when visiting a yarn store without any prompting so there is definitely something to be said about it. I loved that I could knit the same size in very different yarn weights and know what I was getting without swatching!

I've made a Ranunculus in sizes 1 - 8 for myself. I am a bust size 42". I wear the different sizes depending on what kind of look I'm going for. I generally use a worsted weight yarn. I love this pattern. I've made this for myself, my daughter, friends and sister-in-law!

I have made 2 Ranunculus. One was in dk cotton/linen and one in worsted wool. Both are lovely and fit great! It is an excellent pattern! Well written, detailed with options. As far as 'value for money' the pattern cant be beat!
It was the first garment I knit. Fun, taught me skills, and was easy to fit and modify.

I am on my second one and agree with other posters. There is enough interest in the early stages and then you fly thru the stockinette portion. I do just a long tail cast on in the larger version and I find it is not wide at all - sits exactly how I like it. My first one was short sleeve, although I did add a couple of additional rows and then did I cord bindoff. The current one is elbow length sleeves finished with ribbing. It is hugely versatile, can be knitted oversized or more fitted, you can do different rib techniques, the video tutorials are excellent, you can make an open fabric or more dense. Endless options.

I had a beautiful one skien of yarn that I started a shawl with but frogged it as it wasn't showing off the yarn, started another one, saw your podcast and immediately bought the pattern (first pattern I have ever bought on ravelry) frogged the second shawl and started the ranunculus, loving it so far. I am sure I will be making more 😅.
I have made 4 short and long sleeves.. different yarn weights alway get compliments when I wear them it’s a fantastic pattern

I never got around to it because I hate ‘big necklines’ since it makes no sense for the cold and windy weather. But you are right about the neckline. I usually do my own maths to adjust every sweater/jumper pattern and this one is just as well easy enough to accommodate. I never really looked it up so I was not aware of the versatility with yarn weights built into the pattern instructions. I have adjusted patterns for different yarn weights before. Your video is cool 👍🏼

Pattern with options are always a great investment in my opinion. This one doesn't have different gauges but helps you find your perfect yarn for the gauge that is recommended.
@@cloknits and since the yoke runs so very deep I can also shorten that a bit so it does not drop below my bustline
I’ve never knit a sweater before, but I think this will be my beginner pattern. About 2 years ago, a found the most divine dove grey mohair/silk blend, and saw that pattern the same day. I did the pattern calculations, bought the yarn, and decided I would learn to knit. I just finished my most complex project to date, a Celtic knot cabled mitt pattern, and I think I’m finally ready! This video helped me decide it’s about time to cast on. :)

I love this pattern so much and have made at least 15 maybe more and have given more than 5 of them as gifts for the very reason you mentioned, they look good on just about everyone. I have made two long sleeved ones from my handspun because I knew that they would work without worry using my not so consistent yarn. They both looked fantastic on me. I have ones from fingering weight, dk, worsted and even bulky. I have used mohair, silk, wool and wool silk blend and each one has drape and style. Long, short, sleeved or sleeveless, it doesn’t matter, this is a super special pattern!

I have made two, one in wooly wool, one in linen, love them both . My reason for loving it is the many different stitches in in the yoke, none that go on forever leading to boredom, and all are fun to learn and do. If you mess one up it doesn't stick out badly because of the loose gauge. The pattern also shows you the sections AND the options for what part you are working on.
Knitted one and I'm hooked, planning to make multiples. Such a lovely pattern

You can knit it using one skein if you make the smallest size or second size.

This is the reason I made a Ranunculus. I didn't like the original photos, but I saw photos of linen t-shirt versions and I loved them so I made my own. It's not cropped, it's more fitted that the pattern photos, and I love it!
Same here, the closer fitting versions persuaded me to try this pattern.
ive always seem more of the summery versions of the ranunculus, but the chunky one actually made me interested in it, it would fit perfectly into my closet. Well, maybe next year

You touched on this in the video, but I'd LOVE a little hit list of patterns that can use up that one skein of 4ply we all have sitting in stash... maybe looking at a few options for solids, semi-solids, and variegated?

I absolutely love this pattern. I’ve made 6 so far. I knitted it long sleeve short sleeve, acrylic, cotton, wool blend, wool, linen blend. I love each and every one of them.

Obviously the 1 skein is only for the some of the sizes but yes, it's very fun to be able to use small amount of yarn for a sweater.

I actually already made the Sophie scarf, and I purchased the complimentary pattern to make the shawl. I'm getting a couple projects out of the way before I cast on the shawl.
@@skeinofadifferentcolor2090 it is always a case of ‘not being able to knit fast enough’ and the bucket list is so long that you can’t even quantify the time duration needed for that volume of knitting. I am working on a cable sweater that got started last winter and I frogged the front and back once, then the sleeves twice because the instructions for the sleeves is completely wrong. And that is when doing my own maths should have come unto the scene ‘before’ I even started the thing. Rowan instructions can be rather wacky and bloodless to say the least. Every single sweater/jumper I have knitted needed me to ‘rework’ the pattern numbers in order to get a personalized garment. Life would be simpler if I did not have to expend so much time with the maths & geometry of it all. To follow a pattern and not have to do anything else would be faster

I must have been living under a rock because I hadn't even HEARD of the Ranunculus pattern before your vid. Not sure it's quite my thing but never say never..... What I DO like very much are the two colourwork sweaters you have on your chair and behind you. I'll look at other vids to see if you have covered those in other vids but if you have a moment, could you kindly mention the design & designer here? The one that is hanging up looks amazing and I'm very keen to give it a go.
The one on the mannequin is called Astrid by Junko Okamoto. What's on my chair is actually a baby blanket!

Thanks for this. I've seen this pattern more than once from other knit podcasters. I have it in a list on my Ravelry page but have to jump on board yet. I guess the real sell is the large gauge and quickness of knit. Yeah, because there is SO MUCH to knit!!
I have knit three of them!! My favourite is made with a cheap sock yarn, one ball held with a lace mohair blend. My second favourite one is the one I made with Brooklyn Tweed Dapple!

I knit one in Isager alpaca 2 held double and one in Brooklyn Tweed shelter. Both have long sleeves with the diagonal cuff which was fun to knit and very pretty. Love them.

I think the Ranunculus is popular because local yarn stores hosted knitalongs with the promise of a sweater for only 1 skein. They could sell more expensive skeins that way. Personally, I sat that one out as the style is not for me, but I can see the appeal of a quick project and being able to afford a sweater out of luxury yarn that might otherwise be used only for shawls.

I am a new knitter and the ranunculus is my first sweater attempt. My reasons,
1, It’s loose. I hate any garment that is close to my skin.
2. There is a lot of help on line to explain each stitch row to a beginner like me.
3. I’m a professional spinner and handspun yarns seem to work well with loose gauges without overwhelming the texture in the design.
4. Everything you said. Very on point.

I resisted knitting one for a long time but then I saw one knit up at a yarn store, in lace and fingering weight yarn and fell in love! It was a great pattern to knit.
Yarn store samples always get me! I don't want to knit something, then I see it at a store or a booth and BOOM it's on my needles.

Omg! Thank you so much for making this video. I was actually the first person to ask why this pattern is so popular in the Ranunculus comment’s section on Ravelry. I didn’t get many answers but a few Ravelers messaged me expressing their own wonderment. Since then I have knit Satawal also by Midori Hirose. Her patterns are truly lovely, and designed so cleverly. If Ranunculus is anything like Satawal, I can understand why knitters love it. Oh, one more thing: I obsess daily over all the different patterns on Ravelry and have looked at literally thousands. At least to me, at the time Ranunculus came out in 2017, it did not appear to be vastly different then many other similar patterns I had seen however, I was still rather new to knitting at that time (and still consider myself newish) so perhaps I was not seeing it’s novelty as those who had been on Ravelry much longer then I. I have not finished watching your video so am super curious. 😆

I love this pattern! I had two different colors of the Lions Brand Summer Nights so i made one held single for summer and one held with mohair for winter. I also made one out of cotton for summer and another with mohair held double. Additionally i made one with boucle yarn that is for spring/beginning of summer since i can become a tad hot wearing it. After watching this i now would like to make another but maybe i can just gift it to someone 😀.
Just bought the pattern this past Spring, still haven’t casted on yet, looking forward to a worsted weightcast on this Fall, fingers crossed. I just finished a second lacy yoke T called modern art sweater, it’s reversible, by Stella Igidi. I made it a T with cotton, and a cotton/viscose mix for summer wearing.
Idk if it’s on Ravelry, I obtained it from a book called the art of circular yokes. Love it so much, I’m sure to love raunoculous as well. Thank you for the video, love all the different styles of this pattern. ❤
I haven't made this pattern, though I bought it before the multi-size version was released. It was already popular then but not like now :-) I actually mapped out the pattern for the yarn I had in mind but I just didn't feel motivated in the end. Every time I thought of going back to it, something shinier came along. Of course Selma from Ottawa has made a zillion of these - and it's fun to watch her chat about them. Hell, my kid has made one. Truth is, I don't like round yokes, even when they also have raglan shaping. I made the Love Note, similar construtction, and I barely wear it - and I had to modify the crap out of that pattern. I'm also not nuts about lace yokes, in most instances, because they're just too busy all in one spot. And, I tend to wear fitted knits. So, while the designer has been the recipient of my money :-), and I know more about this pattern than some I've actually knitted, it's unlikely I'll make this sweater. I mean, if I haven't bothered by now...

I ve knit 4 or 5 Ranunculi. It’s popular because you can use any weight of yarn. I actually bought the pattern when it was one size fits all. I knit one in fingering (it fit well) but still ripped it out and added mohair!

I used to think I would never knit one, but this fall I decided to knit one for myself, and four more for Christmas presents for my book group. I’m knitting the third one right now, each one has taken about 9 days to complete ( while working on other projects). I’m loving the versatility of the pattern, and using all stash yarn.
I just saw on Ravelry that the Clapotis shawl is celebrating 20 years and is being rereleased. I remember when everyone was knitting one. I still have one (somewhere) that I made way back when. There are over 23k projects on Ravelry.

I was knitting for 2 years before trying Ranunculus as my first, top down, in the round sweater. I come from the English tradition of following a written patern, stitch by stitch, knitting flat and sewing together. What Ranunculus taught me is that I can play around with numbers and gauge and have the confidence to alter patterns or design my own. I've made a Ranunculus in a blown alpaca yarn and one in cotton/silk. Each was made in about a week. It's been a great learning experience.

I’m a spinner and absolutely love to knit lace. As a result I tend to spin lace weight yarns. One of the main reasons why I started spinning is that my daughter has autism and absolutely hates restrictive, scratchy garments.
This video makes me think the Ranunculus is a pattern I should give a go, spinning enough for it and enjoying knitting it, ultimately enjoying seeing my daughter wearing it over and over and over.
I’m thinking my daughter would like me to make her one in Malabrigo Nube in the colourway Cereza (she's been eyeing it in my stash), perhaps blended with some alpaca for extra softness. Done in light weight yarn to ensure it feels light on her whilst wearing it.
I guess I'll "have" to knit a sample "for myself" and see how often she "steals" it for herself… LOL.
That's how it always goes with kids. You make one for them, they never wear it. You make one for yourself, these keep stealing it!

Ooooh please do a deep dive on the Musselburgh hat! I see everyone making them but have never made one myself. I also haven't made a Ranunculus. To be honest, the super open gauge doesn't appeal to me nor does the oversized fit.

I've been seeing this pattern a lot, and I thought ok nice but other patterns with lace yoke etc are as much interesting... and now that you talked about it, and reading all the comments I understand why it is so popular. It's worthy ! So I just bought my copy😂.

I made one for myself in Acadia from the Fibre Company, long sleeves, small neck, longer length, quite conservative I guess because I'm older. Realize I could easily wear a younger more current looking version and will experiment with different yarns. Loved knitting this sweater and thank you for your video!

I bought the pattern super long ago to make with handspun yarn... since handspinning takes so long for a tiny bit of yarn, and this pattern doesn't eat up a lot of yarn... plus it's nice and loose so it could fit over my abayas and my work shirts (practical for modest girlies 😅)
I lost the handspun in a move 😢 but now i got some other yarn looking at me that would be so great for a ranunculus, so I'm finally ready to make it... 6 years after buying my pattern! It's all about that long term planning lol

Sure do I like the Ranunculus. Started my first in febr 2022, and as we speak knitting my 17-th! Really! Today I bought beautiful yarn for an 18th. 3 of them I didn’t finish (bad yarn match) 8 I gifted away.
I learned to be critical on yarns for “stitch definition”. IMPORTANT! Some don’t show the beautiful lacework very well: I avoid yarns that are too dark, avoid colorchanges or speckles. Avoid yarns that are fluffy, like for example letlopi. Doesn’t work. You can notie this on pictures on Ravelry too.
I hope to knit Midori’s Twinkle and Paul Klee. But first I want to try Soldotna

But slowly I have watched this pattern evolve, from the provided modifications to the created modifications. I like that it can be knitted up with 1 skein. I think it may have to be my next cast on. I tried the Tin Can Knits Love Note in a fuzzy thinner yarn but the lace pattern was hard for me to catch. I tried and tried, Anyway, I kept going after the 4th try, mistakes and all. But think I am ready to do the ranunculus now. I like Midori Hirose's designs, Cherry is in my favourites too! I think because she is Japanese her last name is pronounced Hir-o-sé. I love your videos!

Hi there! I did make one a few years ago with a kit from Sonder. I like it, but I would not bother knitting another one unless it was a gift for someone. I was a volunteer at Knit City Toronto, and my friend and I made a game of counting all of the Ranunculi that we saw. it was absolutely astonishing. It is a nice sweater, but there are so many other sweaters out there that are beautiful and why keep knitting the same thing over and over again?
That being said, I have knit several Lento sweaters, and it is a pattern that I love. I find it far more versatile in terms of yarn, and I intend to make a few more. Plus the fit is wonderful.
So in a world of Ranunculi, why not be a Lento? 😊🇨🇦🇫🇮

@@ycward not the point. There are lots of beautiful lace sweaters out there, many of which I have made. What I like about the Lento is that it’s incredibly versatile. All of the ones I’ve made look very different.

The Non felted slipper pattern has 4500+ projects and works very fast. Key thing is an attached app with foot length and width and gauge for custom fit. I prefer to run a few rounds of ribbing at the top.
These are great for charity knitting and non superwash yarn. The color play is fun too. I knot a pair in 4 hours.
I have noticed the popularity while looking for a first garment to knit. I think I am nearly ready to do a top with my skills. The option for no sleeves is definitely appealing since my magic loop still needs practice because of a bit of laddering! So close!
@@barbaramcewen practice. I snug up the first two stitches every switch over and hold them in place until I get a few more done. Do not snug too tightly

It's obviously not going to be one skein for all sizes but when done in short sleeves and cropped it give a good amount of lenght

I have knit two so far. One very wooly worsted weight farm yarn and one suri alpaca and love them both. I’m planning to knit a third for my non-knitting sister who picked this pattern out when visiting a yarn store without any prompting so there is definitely something to be said about it. I loved that I could knit the same size in very different yarn weights and know what I was getting without swatching!

One ball will make a crop and short sleeve in small(ish) size. But absolutely doable!
