One budget friendly option for extra lighting is LED- daylight bulbs that go to your regular size E27 lamp. Here in Finland we have AIRAM growth light bulbs redily available for around 15€ each but the daylight bulbs are around 5€ each so that is a budget option if you already have extra bedside/table lamps at home that you can put it in. That tin foil trick sounds great and I think I'll try it in one corner where I have a less powerfull growth light at the moment.
Thank you for the video. Please could you do a video on which plants are more tolerant of colder environments (UK). For example I also struggle with my calatheas but my cheese plants seem to cope a bit better. How about ferns? and succulents and cacti? Your knowledge will be most welcome. Thank you xx
Hello Claire I am new to your channel,And I absolutely love it. I have been learning so much with your help. I have been binge watching your videos. I have subscribed to a lot of plant channels but I find yours is the most helpful. Thank you ❤
Clair I want to thank you for all your information I’ve watched all you videos I think now and I just love them I live in Canada. I just want to say thank you for all your hard work ❤
Another great video, Claire. I got myself some of those microfiber gloves a few months back and they are absolutely FAB! Perfect for this time of year; warm hands, clean plants haha. I've also treated myself to a magnifying glass with LED lights and it's revolutionised my pest hunting. Much love to you and the family ❤️
Thanks for a really helpful video. Don’t have a large number of plants but looks like I’m going to be busy over winter. 💚your videos. Thanks for sharing your experience and plants with us.
Moisture meters are so underrated, since I started using one,I have killed less plants! And after using it,you start to recognize when a plant needs watering on your own! I overwater my plants! So love the meter!
If you're really concerned and your plant grows leaves pretty readily in the growing season you can also cut your plant back a little! That way the root system has less plant to support if it's getting less light, heat, etc. And then your plant will grow more bushy in the spring.
Hi Claire! I love ur sweatshirt and thank you so much for these tips! I'm scared for winter i hope all my plants survive I'm also going to look into a heat pad as well.. thank you so much for sharing ur knowledge....have an amazing week 💜 🪴
Could you please do a show about balcony plants? My first winter in my apartment. Had to bring my plants in because the wind was drying the leaves out. I've had a 50% survival rate overall but not sure which ones would have died anyway.
I keep a couple of plants on the fridge and have to say that the soil always dries easily... never thought it was the heat because of the fridge. Recently I replaced it by a Christmas cactus as succulents don't require so much water. So this hack works! 😉
Hey Claire! Can you do a tips and tricks on your new monstera Esqueleto? I am thinking about getting one and would like a few more tips, have a great rest your evening and keep up the great work?
What are your tips for plant placement in a house with lots of radiators? Literally every window has a radiator directly underneath it. I want my plants to get enough light but don’t want to put them anywhere near the radiators will they still get enough light if they’re in other places in the room?
@@elizabethlacey7708 I actually plant to try a deliciosa from seed. Way cheaper than a plant, even a starter and at least I know I have room for germinating some seeds! If it works, I have *plenty* of time to find room for it. 🤣
I find that the humidity is a lot higher in my room now that I use (spagnum) moss poles. The humidifier is at 65% but after 3-4 weeks it is still half filled
I love your videos! Your collection is to die for!!!! I was wondering if you thought of purchasing a microphone? It would help us hear you better. And remove the echo of the room. Just a thought. Keep up the great work.
Hi Claire I just made 3 pots with the macromae love it question have you ever covered your terracotta pots or does it defeat the purpose also I have quite a few clear pots which I use the pot in pot method but I love the look of the macromae yard can I use that as well even though they have slots on the sides of the clear pots thanks again you’re awesome
I'm a new plant mom, and sadly it's been really ,really hard to keep my plants going :(. those who are labelled "easy" don't live long with. I was so proud of my Photos plants as those seemed to be the only ones that were going well and seeing your video I'm realizing they are not doing well at all. I feel like giving up right now ...
Don't give up if it's something you really want to do! I don't know your particular issues, but facebook groups are a good place for advice/encouragement. You may just need a tweak a couple of things. Good luck!
@@leaperrins8373 thank you! I’ve since figured out I’m having a huge thrips infestation which was actually the reason I lost so many plants! I’m treating it now and even the Alocasia Zebrina which I thought was lost is giving me a new leave! Slowly …
@@rebeccaj1348 So glad you found the issue! I know it's sad that you've lost some plants, but hopefully this is a learning experience that will help prevent future losses. Once you settle into it, having plants is so rewarding. Good luck!
Hello Claire, thank you so much for sharing!! First off, you are GORGEOUS and I love your accent!! I was just thinking about using foil to illuminate my mini greenhouses so thank you for confirming!! Also, I tend to lose a few plants every Winter so these tips will definitely help!!🥰🙏🏼🙏🏼
So many great tips 😊 Thank you SO much for this! I also just watched your DIY cabinet video. I'm doing the same thing right now. Does the humidifier and fan on one level reach all parts of the unit? Now that you've had it a while are there any updates/changes you have or would make? Be well and thanks again!
I've left gaps at the back at each shelf for air to pass from level to level, and in hindsight I wouldn't have actually bothered with the humidifier - if you seal it well humidity naturally increases by itself (mine's at 80-90% most days and I haven't run my humidifier in ages) 💚
I would love to try the product Photo Plus but unfortunately liquid goldleaf is not available in the US. Is there an alternative that you are aware of? I couldn't find anything that does anything like what photo plus claims to do. Thanks for the help and another great and very helpful video!
So I bought a moisture meter a while back and I struggle to get good readings with my chunky aroid mix. I will have just watered and it won't read much moisture at all. Do you think because it's so airy?
I remember reading that they don't work very well with succulent grit. I imagine it is the same situation with any chunky mix. Not enough stuff touching the probe Good news though, those types tend to drain well, so less chance of over-watering, which is what I usually do.
All I know is I bought one this summer and have kept more plants alive than I ever have before. Several times I have thought I should water and checked with the meter and I was wrong.
Great video, but i would suggest to not fertilise your plants during this time, since they are in a dormant phase they are not going to use it. Just give a break to the soil and in Spring, summer get back to fertilizing.
It's been a MUCH longer process than was initially anticipated and several things have come up along the way. Just waiting on the final bits to clear and I'll be moving ASAP (I'm sooooooooo ready now) 😂

Oooooh totally forgot to say - just water 😂💚
i saved up during the summer to prepare my plant room for winter in NYC, two humidifiers, twelve 2ft barrina t8 grow lights and some heating mats
