Emeli Sandé performs her hit single 'Read All About It (Pt. III)' at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Closing Ceremony also featured performances from the Spice Girls, Jessie J, Queen and Take That.
Every two years, the world's finest athletes gather at the Olympic Games - a spectacular celebration of sporting excellence that captures the attention of billions of people around the world. However, the Games are about much more than just sport. They bring the Olympic values to life and provide a global arena for a unique combination of sport, culture, education and ceremonies.
At the Olympic Games in London 2012, about 10,500 athletes from 204 countries compete in 26 different sports, comprising 302 medal events. Whether athletes win a medal or not, they can forever call themselves Olympians. The sporting competitions are undoubtedly the central focus of the Olympic Games and participating in the Games is the ultimate goal for most athletes.
Every edition has its own story to tell and will be remembered for some truly remarkable performances from sporting legends such as Jesse Owens, Abebe Bikila, Jean-Claude Killy, Nadia Comaneci, Katarina Witt, Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt, to name just a few.

No country can do something that comes close to what we see in London 2012. The USA and Japan may have the money, but there's something they will never have : class, good taste and the rich history and tradition only the UK have

I have often spoken to a paralympian friend who participated at London 2012 paralympics. He cannot praise London 2012 enough. - I am so proud of this country for what was achieved.
what a voice,she deserves all the credit shes getting now,i was in a park 5 minutes from the stadium with big screens up when she sang this,it was just so moving the whole crowd was silent with respect,so amazing to here this live.

3:28 I really burst into tears when I saw Shin A-Lam still on the piste. She would’ve moved onto the finals but the clock was reset from 0 seconds to 1 second due to a ruling where one fencer is awarded priority when in sudden death. Her opponent won. She remained on stage while her coach filed an appeal, that eventually fell through. She still remained on stage crying in shock about what just happened.
For me, that moment epitomizes the Olympics to me. We watch these young athletes for entertainment and we forget that for some of those people, it's the culmination of their life's work and it might be their once and only chance to win a medal. I had been aware of what happened with Shin because it had made the news and seeing her just sit there all alone while Emeli was singing with those heartfelt lyrics made such lasting impression on me. To this day, I hear this song, I think of the London Olympics and of Shin.
This was the best Olympics of all time.
Look at the 100m finals for example, the 5 fastest men ever lived against each other in that finals. That will never happen again.

If you want to see a worldwide event ask the Brits. No other nation on earth can command such worldwide attention. The London Olympics opening and closing ceremony were nothing like we've ever seen before. The Royal weddings pull in billions of viewers worldwide. The music talent is second to none. The Brits pretty much have it all in terms of being able to show their talents on a world stage, unlike no other.

It was the closing ceremony. You can tell by the clips of the winners/losers crying. But the whole of the London games were my favourite yet.
I was not looking forward to the Olympics being held in my home town. Thought it would just cause a load of hassle, that I did not want. However from the moment the opening ceremony started i was hooked. Made me so proud to call myself British, and to call London my home.
What great days those were. London 2012. Seems like a lifetime away now.

This was really my first olympics (I don't remember much of the 2008 one, and before that I was too young) so for the large part the Olympics and the UK were interchangeable terms in my head. It's only know, with Brazil getting attention, do I realise how special it was. I wish it had come later in my life, so I could see live when it was announced we would be hosting it, and really appreciate it when it was (probably for the last time in my life time) in my country.
