Yeah but you are not British as patriotism is not too welcome in the UK. It is too bold in a country know for being modest. A bit like the Japanese in that matter. Not too sure of South Korean values but sadism on your children seems high with the national exam day and employment practices of the companies.

I'm an American and I remember watching this for the first time and realizing, to my shock, how much of what I grew up with and loved and assumed was American pop culture ... was actually British. Well done, UK. You really reminded us how deeply you've impacted our lives. Also, I don't think I've ever seen anything so simultaneously dreadful and inspiring as the Pandemonium sequence. The golden Olympic ring out of all that smoke and chaos. I thought it was very brave of Britain to acknowledge both the good and the bad that came out of industrialization, and very hopeful to have all that result in a symbol of unity for all humanity.
English teacher from America here. This is what I constantly try to tell my kids, all the time, when they ask why we study British literature in America. Because the Brits INVENTED English. They developed it from a mere language to one of the most beautiful and universal modes of expression through the development of an incredible culture. America is full of Dutch, Irish, German, Spanish, African, Japanese, and Middle Eastern Immigrants. But we all speak English, and the Brits are the masters of it.
However...this had a lot of American influences, either way....not much into the British Culture much or their music or cinema.....but I like the first part of the Opening Ceremony. I guess is safe to say that if these British Bands did not make in the USA they would not be as big as they were.... Like the Beatles, Queen or Elton John....they all came to America and made big HERE.
@@hlatino03I hope I'm not coming across as rude but can you not make this about America rn. We know America is one of the biggest influences in the world but it's not everyday it must be made the best in every single conversation. Someone here is praising Britain and you come to say that America is still the best or whatever. Maybe I misunderstood but can you let other countries have the limelight for once.
The best opening of all time for an Olympic ceremony which contrasts so much with what is usually done, in particular thanks to a soundtrack that is just superb and a staggering staging. In short, a modern and epic opening ceremony. Respect.
@@d.k2502 Thanks I've seen it before but there's nothing epic or modern about it. The opening ceremony of the 2004 games in athens is nice, but it's a banal opening ceremony with a very classic original soundtrack and doesn't have many surprises, which is not the case with the London ceremony which tells stories with a staging and a soundtrack never seen in any opening ceremony. Sorry.
@@ynvassknrdar1233 And as the Australian commentators noted- for better and worse. For all the innovation of the modern age, there was also poverty, exploitation, pollution and war.

3:27:32 The Queen proclaims the games open. The Queen (in 2012): "I declare open the Olympic Games of London, celebrating the 30th Olympiad of the modern era." The King (her father, in 1948): "I proclaim open the Olympic Games of London, celebrating the 14th Olympiad of the modern era."
Personally I think the camera men running around the whole stadium and not missing and inch of footage, should have our thanks too. For everlasting footage of this glorious British event 😊
I remembered watching this with the family and being shocked how most of the things that I loved came from British culture. I already knew about Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Doctor Who and various other things. But I had an eagerness of exploring the city, seeing the statues, and hearing Big Ben ring. I realized that going to London was my dream and promised myself that one way or another I was going to see the city in person someday. Seven years later my dream came true!

Opening industrial portrayal. Many years later still mesmerising, captivating, heartbreaking, exhilarating and spiritually rendering. Reflecting history and humanity at its most vulnerable and powerful, full of expectation, but with no certain outcome, like sport itself. As a Londoner living just a mile from the stadium at the time (and luckily with the fortune to attend a couple days events), I could relate to lots of the story and symbolism in this piece. I pray this important and iconic production and its anthem live on for decades, as a reminder (especially given incredibly dark times, worldwide, barely a decade later), of the unshakeable collective power of the people. Past, present and future. Heartfelt thank you and well done to all the creators and participants involved. Blessings.

I thought it was very brave of Britain to acknowledge both the good and the bad that came out of industrialization, and very hopeful to have all that result in a symbol of unity for all humanity.
watch the closing one too
wow, I really loved this comment!
Respect.
Watch again Athens 2004!
Blessings.

It was a glorious games too. Great Britain outshone itself in every aspect.
We will have days like that again. We've faced many hurdles in history, but always manage to land on our feet in the end.
All an ILLUSION.

it's 2023 and I still come back to watch this ceremony, the best!!
22:54 as a Brit this was the moment we knew we hadn’t fucked it up. When those chimneys started sprouting we knew we had the spectacle and then the industrial revolution scene and the flying rings. Beautiful.
First thing he mentions is the weather, how British 😂
Yes, that day (and indeed for the previous few months- as for example during the Diamond Jubilee river parade) the weather had been as British as British can be !
He also mentioned easterners hahah
Rosida Andriyana Japan likes England over America but we have no Asians in England when America and Canada has lots. Meaning Chinese, Japanese and Korean people but with the accent of England.
Rosida Andriyana London is crappy
lol , we are English, stiff upper lip I think :)
I was in this, and it is still the best night of my life.
what did you do
Me too.
Where were you? Audience or dancers?
It's been 4 years and we are still waiting for this lady to tell us what she did.

Oh I remember sitting glued to the TV and getting super excited when my country's team passed by the podium.
I’ve never had more reason to download YT Premium than I have while watching this ceremony. So many bloody ads interrupting such brilliant bits of this video! 🙈
the industrial revolution part is actually one of the best things ive ever seen
Sorry, what part was that? Is for history homework :c

This is the best opening and Olympic Games ever , I remember when I was watching it with my dad after one year my dad passed away 😢
This video needs replacing, the audio is muffled. Im guessing someone tried muting a copyrighted piece of music or something
