The Oris BC is a classic sports/dress watch. I have one in my collection and, while not a regular wear for me, I would never part with it. Such is the nature of an iconic watch to a watch collector or fan.
@@jimyarradi That is a criticism often leveled at this watch, and it's not unreasonable in this day and age to anticipate greater water resistance from a watch. Nonetheless, the watch's origins are as an aviation watch (hence the big crown design) so water resistance was not historically a function-critical element of its design.
@@mh-do3pe I've never had a problem with catching the crown or having it press into my wrist. A big advantage for me, as I have big hands, is that it's much easier to adjust the hands or hand-wind when needed. Very comfortable to use and allows for fine adjustment.
Just bought a BCPD. I ended up going 40mm with my 6.5 inch wrist based on your reviews. It really wears better than you'd think! The grey/blue dial is absolutely gorgeous. Looks sky blue in daylight and slate indoors. I fucking love this dial.
I love how classy this watch is, especially the Roberto Clemente version. Definitely my top pick along with a dive watch if I am going with a two watches collection.
I have it in blue and absolutely love it!!! I highly recommend having it with strap and bracelet, fitting with every style. Great looking and design, excellent for smaller wrists, comfortable, high ends... Buy it!!!!!! 😍😍
Well.... I own the Roberto Clemente version of this watch..... I freaking LOVE it! I can't justify owning another version of their watches as they are the exact same.... minus dial color. I really was considering the red dial version but decided not to as I own the model I already mentioned. These are beautiful watches though. Highly recommend
Great review 👍, the black face gives it a retro field watch look. I have a 36mm Big crown date pointer and it fits my small wrist @ 170mm perfectly. I have had it for 12 years and it still keeps good time.
I just don’t understand how a screw down crown Oris with a basic three hands and unique date complication layout still only has 50m WR. I still want one. Gorgeous.
I have the black dial 36mm version and a small wrist (6.75in but very square). I have had many 36mm watches over time and the BC36 wears smaller than all of them. The 17mm lug width is annoying but fits the small feeling of the case. I like its humble size and feel it works very well for a vintage-style watch. I’m impressed by the construction and finishing, it all feels very solid, including the bracelet and clasp. The dial is far from “black” as Teddy said and is more dark grey and even brown at times but again, I think it looks fantastic for a watch of this style and much better than if it were true black. The aggressive domed sapphire gives a pleasant distortion at extreme angles. My criticism is the grade of movement, with comparable German brands fitting “Top” grade Sellitas/ETAs at the same price. However, this is expected with the amount of advertising that Oris does and always having to pay the ‘Swiss tax’ anyway. A solid caseback would work better on this watch as well. Overall, the 36 is surprisingly not seen much even though there is a lack of great 36mm dress/sport watches from the big brands otherwise (other than BB36). As a German/Japanese watch fan, I was skeptical of getting a Swiss watch but have been very happy with it and it exceeded my expectations overall.
According to Oris (I emailed them to ask), this watch is suitable for hand washing only. Can't even shower with it. That's why people don't like the water resistance.
I think they're being a little conservative with the water resistance. Screw down crown and caseback as well as the high level of quality and construction make me think this would be closer to 100m of WR.
Agreed. I own one in the grey/blue and it’s wonderful, but as a daily driver and at the asking price it should have 100m of water resistance and a sapphire crystal on the back or closed case back. The lume is also just okay for the price. The lume on the Arabic’s is almost nonexistent. That said, it’s lovely to look at and finished wonderfully. One of my favorite pieces. There’s nothing out there like it that I have found. The pointer date function is cool, but if you have aging eyes, you won’t be able to see the little date numbers. Teddy has presented this watch honestly I think.
I should add that this one is not intended to be a field watch in any way, so for most, 50m should more than suffice. It’s a bit too fancy looking anyway to wear hard.
In the water resistance, if that 50m is solid, it's way beyond what anyone needs without scuba tanks. With screw crown you won't accidentally bump that out, so swim free!
I've always loved this model (well, the 36mm version), but as you said 100m WR would make it perfect. It's weird that it has a screw down crown but only 50m.
Great looking watch that is a bit of a strap monster. Why a screw-down crown on this style of watch with only 5 ATM? The bracelet doesn't blend with the lugs for me. If the lugs are brushed then I want the end links to be brushed at the adjacent links, otherwise it looks like a third party bracelet afterthought.
I was so into Rolex Oyster Perpetual for the simple design but after seeing the diver 65 damn i like that watch so much. Just checking the pointer date for fun..
I know this will apply to very few people, but my biggest gripe with this beautiful piece is the difference in fonts between the time and date tracks. This is highlighted by the curved 4, which I love, but then you see several very angular 4s in the calendar
I went to the store wanting the bronze, but ended up choosing the slate blue. The dealer had 10 variations in stock. It was great to see them all in the flesh.
Great review Teddy. I agree with just about everything in this review as I have this watch with the oxblood red dial on the leather strap and love it. The pointer date execution is brilliant as you can see the date indicator whatever the time. Oddly I'm not a huge fan of the date complication for this reason. Accuracy is so far within COSC limits even though it is not certified. This was my first Oris and hopefully will not be my last from the brand. The only downside is the lume isn't great but no big deal for this watch.
Hi Teddy/ viewers. I have the Roberto Clemente edition and was wondering where the best place to buy a bracelet for it would be? I haven’t found much online. Would like to add a bracelet like the one in the video. Thanks. I’m a big fan of your channel
the oris roberto clemente is a very nice watch. It has a lug width of 20mm. as long as you make sure that the bracelet is that size youre fine and there are lots of options.
Great content and overall fluid speech. Few notes - you don't need to reassert your acumen on the subject matter and over-qualify your assertions in wrap-up. We lasted until the end of the video, so we are in. Charm the kids on the way out :)
Teddy, does this watch have the same shade of black as the Waldenburgerbahn limited edition? Both are called black dial but this Waldenburger dial looks blacker... please confirm, thanks!
What’s this obsession with Pilots watches having a greater water resistance than 50 metres? How many pilots do you know of flying under water? Ridiculous thinking! Great watch and video though.
I suspect it's a minor bug with the movement. Mine, very occasionally, fails to align the date pointer hand (not always on the 13), but when I unscrew the crown to tweak it, the hand adjusts itself.
Nice watch, but with an average price point of ~ € 1200 within the EU it is way too expensive for what you get. I wouldn't go above € 800 for a watch with SW-200 based movement so € 400 for the pointer date is a bit too much to my taste. 😁
Well it depends on what grade of SW200 movement you get, if its the top grade thats witihin COSC tolerances of +5/-5 sec per day or the chronometer certified version than the price is totally worth the money. I would not fall into the trap that thinking an in-house movement automatically means its higher quality and / or better made. One thing for sure the SW200 is a shitload cheaper to get serviced not thats a common thing to so with this movement.

I prefer the long crescent tip of the pointer date of the 1980s 90s of the Big Crown Pointer Date.

Agree. That bracelet is ugly anyway
