- Strike Commander was a legendary flight sim by Origin and Chris Roberts from 1993.
Playing with Vista laptop + DosBox 0.72. Game is EA Classics CD version with speech pack. Video capturing by DosBox. Difficulty is "Ace", no unlimited ammo.
This first video will show game intro and character introduction cutscenes around Wildcat base in Turkey before starting first missions in Mauritania. Игры
Hard to believe I found this game, in its original box today with manual and everything for $1.99 at a local Goodwill near my house. Oh the fun I'm gonna have this weekend.
I loved Strike Commander back in the day and wish they'd remake it with a modern engine.
Me too. I miss strike commander. Best game ever!!
What everyone doesn't know, unless you attended Dragon*Con 1991 - Origins did a game intro sneak peak at that event. The intro for Strike Commander was in total size of about 40 MB's. Which back then was extremely large for the day. The intro started out with a shadowy figure, sitting behind a non-descript office, with a office window facing a city skyline... The shadowy figure...first started off with... We have a job for you...then a cut scene ensues...camera cuts back to the shadowy desk figure...he says a few more words...then another cut scene showing another in cockpit flight mode...and this back n forth of cutting to an action scene and then back to the shadowy figure...went on for a bit... with the trailing words of the main character saying... he is a fighter pilot and not a murderer...the original intro gave you more of a mercenary feeling to the game than the slimmed down version that was public released in 1993 sadly. Chris Roberts' has often been asked what happened to this original game intro and that it was lost in the Origins vault..maybe EA will happen over it and re-release the intro...
Wish chris Roberts would use this story today. Id be apart of the Walmart airforce
DUDE, so nostalgic, my 1st flightsim back in 90's, finished it and so impressed by the game and story.
I really DO miss those times of great story-flightsim games from ORIGIN. Pacific Fighters, Strike Commander and Wing commander series. Thanks for posting.
Incredible game, way ahead from its time. Brought me back so many memories. Thanks for uploading.
LOVED this game. What a story!
Oh man, that brings back memories ...
Janet is by far the best character of both games.
This game was awesome. Its kind of ironic that this game was about a company going out of business but also the game that did drive Origin to the brink and forced them to start leaning on EA for help. Beginning of the dark path.
This was the greatest fighter pilot game ever, great story, even had a game to play on the load screen. Why has there never been a followup?
couldnt agree more
Let's petition Chris Roberts for a sequel, or at least a movie!
Pacific Strike is the closest thing you'll get
Top 3 games when I was a kid:
1: Strike Commander
2: F-22 Raptor
3: Treasure Mountain.
I miss the early 90's when u could pick up a game bundle (10 or more dos games) for hella cheap at Price Club lol
I remember telling my friends about this game how it looks so real, you almost can't get better than this. I look at it now...
But hey, for 1993, this was crazy good.
2011 is truly the world of tomorrow.
I love the awkward silences
when I was a kid we got a 4x reveal cd rom drive for our 486 computer and it came with strike commander dragon lore and simcity 2000. They were all amazing.
Someone please remake Strike Commander! It was the best flightSim game ever. I think what made it so good was that it actually had a story line ;-) Does anyone know of a worthy modern substitute? Excellent video capture.
This was the 1st game I played with sound on my pc lol
Loved the game and the story. Still own the CD-version with speech pack. But what really sucked in this game is the fact that missiles were pretty much useless. It was almost impossible to hit a fighter plane with one, not even at close range - they always managed to use decoy. So there was a lot of dog fights with guns instead...which is actually the reason I don't feel for replaying this game - the missions take too long time to compelete.
I bought the speech pack and a sound blaster for this game.
If you are still interested in getting a hold of this game, you can buy it on GOG.com for $ 5,99 and probably less if they hold a sale.
ah the best intro for combat flight game ever, and the only combat flight sim that has a storyline...
gee, you know what, ubi should have remake this than made hawx, hawx failed miserably to compete with ace combat and even hawx 2 doesn't seem like any improvement; instead, imagine a combat flight game that took strike commander as the core and enhance them with open ended missions, features and gameworld like those found in need for speed U/MW/C series...

memories from the past
02:31 Welcome to the 'Wildcats' ladies and gentlemen.
Love this game. Was I the only one who hardly used any rockets? Machine gun all the way!
My Vehicle Call-Sign in Afghanistan was "PrimeTime" based off this game
I have the game bought, EA classics CD version. My dad bought it for me around '96-'97.
I wanted this game sooooooo bad.
I think back then I only had a 486 33mhz and they wanted you to have a DX
Oh yea, I loved beating the other pilots and making it to #1 on that kill board. So much fun
I wish I still could find my Strike Commander CD and my Privateer CD. Those hold the strongest gaming memories of my childhood. The downloaded speech pack + Strike commander from abandonware isn't perfect, oh well. :(
2:30 The fun begins
This game was much better without a sound card lol
hey turzumi were did you get a hold of this game and how do you make it work? would really like to know, want to play this game bad:P
If you have the game manual, many of the events in the back story for their 2011 world seem to hit eerily close to home. Chris Roberts may have a career in geopolitics. Now all we need are states seceding (come on CA, and TX.. do it already!), and expedited oil wars. Would the Wildcats be Blackwate/Academi, or is that a job for the Jackals? I'm willing to start a mercenary squadron but need a good used C-130 and maybe a decent accountant.
Someone should do a Privateer: Gemini Gold with Strike Commander. GG was a full on 3D remake of Privateer...
Great gameplay. I suck at this game on dosbox. It's pity the low resolution, though.
@KashimZero
pretty sure you can run this game in DOSBOX at full speed on pretty low spec'd computer.
i used to own the CD version of this gem, along with syndicate plus and privateer i wasted many hours on these games! well not wasted but you get what i am saying.
i always got stuck on a bombing mission somewhere mid game, i could never hit enough of the targets / find where the heck they went! LOL.
Pete "Maverick" Mitchell XD
Your ego is writing checks your body can't cash!
are you playing on dos system or on dosbox? how did you get the speech-pack to work? i could install it but they still not talk...
Now available at GoG!
How did you get your joystick to function? Mine always tracks, rendering flight impossible. DosBox suggestions?
Lol that voice acting
haha just wanna say that the events in strike commander supposed to happen this year! :D lol
Can you please organize your Strike Commander videos into playlists? Would be much easier to watch.
Anyone remember bombing the runways was glitchy and wouldn't register as completed even though you dropped the bomb on it. So what did you do, shoot it with your cannon.
I don't remember any issue. Did you use Durandal ?
What kind of joystick do you use and how did you integrate it into DOSBox?
I can't get the speech pack to work, it's looking for a floppy disk and I don't even have a drive. I tried mounting and stuff, can't get it to work.
Also, my sound quality is terrible!
Does DosBox work with all classic PC games?
Any1 know of a way to get a hold of this game for pc? DosBox is well and good, but I need the actual game to put in that box :)
if your running a 64bit version of windows I would think not.
high tech gfx for its time.. if you could get the damn thing to run, was buggy as hell
