It seems to me that the entire time you were thinking "Wow, I'm learning scientific things. I'm gonna be so smart!" and you actually weren't focused at all on the video and didn't learn shit. Isn't that right?

***** I'm not saying that just because he is high. Look at the comment. He seems to be more amazed by the fact that he is watching an educational video than by the things he supposedly learned by it. I can bet that the entire time he was thinking "So THIS is what is happening to me right now" and when the video ended, he forgot WTF he just watched.

+hristaki99 you are making assumptions. Putting his comment into other words: "I am high and I clicked on this video to learn. I am interested in the subject. I'm sitting here very high on weed and I'm learning about what's happening to me. I love stoner shit." Sounds like he's learning about the subject. Just because he didn't write anything about the information in the video doesn't mean we can just assume he didn't learn anything. Of course the chance is there though.

When this video was made, marijuana was illegal almost everywhere in the US and Hank had to be careful about the content. Only 8 years 8.5 years later, it's legal in numerous states, even recreationally, and he could probably light up on camera if he wanted. Now let's do the same thing with psilocybin, mescaline and lysergic acid.

"Brick weed" was a term from when Mexican dirt weed was prominent in North America, in the 70's. Back before the hydroponics were a thing. They would compress this shitty weed into bricks to ship them. With the stems, seeds a plenty, and anything else they could put in the bricks to weigh them down for profit.

If you use just enough to have a good time with some friends, or to knock yourself out when you can't sleep, there are hardly any negative effects. (There are none with me, but it's a little different for everyone)

It should change your entire life, and your personality. You go from being a semi ignorant ordinary boring person to a semi enlightened different new person. If you think you're fine the way you are, that's great but there aren't very many circumstances that mean you SHOULD NOT SMOKE. And neither of the two you listed are any of those. What if the person was an alcoholic, beat their family and used weed to calm down and quit drinking? Or there was a person that didn't like their personality, so used pot to find out what having a different one for a while feels like? There is no should or should not, there is only do or do not. And that's personal choice, whether you like a persons choice or not.

It's the same as alcohol, the only thing that makes it bad is people that don't have the self discipline to keep a level head whilst drunk. Doesn't mean drinking should be illegal, just means some people are idiots haha.
What about in your experience, do you believe cannabis has the power to improve as well as decline? I'm an artist and I swear, I have the best ideas whilst high. I will never stop endorsing weed, although I will caution against it. Like everything, it has it's negatives.

Depending on the viscosity of the oil that's secreted by marijuana, insects (like ants for example) can actually get stuck, while THC and CBDs seem to slow down the insects reaction, making them struggle less, and they then starve while stuck to said plant

To quell this large and long term constant agony, I have been taking Rx heavy painkillers q=3. Sometimes I can vaporize an indica heavy blend with about 1.7% CBD. This can act as a replacement for the mid-day chemical Rx. Sleeping is easier, and lasts longer than the typical 3 to 4 hours...It allows me to sleep for longer time periods. This in turn means I can occasionally dream. That facet of my psyche was missing for years, since heart attack #5. There are a wide range of benefits that I personally experience, and can, as a bio-scientist inventor attest to. Besides, by getting instruction on dosing, I've actually lowered the amount needed to get to that effect.
Here in Ca I can legally partake of these benefits, merely making my life livable. High? Ha!

Microfrog 1. THC offers protection against UV light( which is harmful for plants.)2. THC defends the plants from bugs and pests. Firstly, it makes the plant very sticky so that, when any bugs land on it, they get stuck and secondly, when bugs eat THC, they 'get high' and seem to forget they were even on a plant
      3. THC produces a high in most mammals. There's two options here, either the animal doesn't like the intoxication, in which case it will stay away from the plant, or the animal does like the intoxication, eats the plant and poops its seeds out later, which enables the plant to reproduce.
      4. THC is a pretty powerful antibiotic and anti-fungal substance, it protects the plant against certain diseases.
There you go, 4 answers as to why cannabis evolved the way it did.

It often sounds like I'm in a busy subway, everything sounds muddied, but I know conciously that all I hear is white noise from my fan and such>
I smoke weed and it quiets down, and I don't have to think, I can just. Exist and focus.

there's little delta-9THC found in raw cannabis. In raw cannabis you'll find THC-a, which is a precursor for it, but it has to be heated to be converted to delta-9-THC. The process is called decarboxolation, so the notion that bugs, or animals will get high by eating raw cannabis is largely a fallacy.

THC can only be released at a specific temperature, so eating it can't get you high... Therefore, bugs and other plant eating insects or animals, can't get high from the weed. My two cents... Tell me if I'm wrong xD

Most people will make THC butter over heat, and cook with it -- it is rare to see someone just put marijuana into a recipe.

This video brings up a question I have not spent time thinking about in relation to THC. I have heard many debates about its use for glaucoma and cancer and its possible benefits for hospice care. But it seems like a pertinent question to answer, why does the plant make this chemical? If it's because its antibacterial and a pesticide THC could have even more benefits to medicine other than pain control and suppression of cell division. With states legalizing medical marijuana the crops are already in place to do the research for such a study. It would be miraculous if it turns out to work better for certain infections than the medications we already have. To be able to cure resistant infections would be a great leap in medicine.

It doesn't matter where you grow it in my state, deer will come. I think I has to do with weeds natural stress and pain relief, deer can become extremely stressed thanks to the large amount of hunters and everything feels pain so it just makes sense to us. So if you grow in a state with any deer population, either grow inside or get a pretty good fence.

Yea, heavy ussage of canabis does cause your brain cells to be more lazy and you might stop being fully conscious for some time. Also, I'm not sure if it's true but, THC doesn't really leave your body like alcohol does, it says and your body will need some time to adapt itself to its new state.
I'm against the overusage we have on canabis today, but after this video I think I can accept it has a medical herb.

After all of the research I have done on the plant, the only scientifically recorded effects it has on the brain (first of all varies from person to person) are:
      a) When in use it slows down reaction time, and causes memory loss. This happens to all people who are high (personally the memory loss doesnt happen for me but it is a recorded case that it does so I'm putting it on here), but once you sober up the symptoms generally go away, unless you are a heavy user because it can kill certain brain cells if you've smoked enough of it.
      b) it hasnt been recorded to cause any mental disorders, although, if you already have a mental dissorder you are more prone to mental addiction, (feeling like you need it to feel better and happier)
Thats about it, though. It's definitely the more healthy drug to go for, seeing as how it doesnt have any serious long term affects on the brain. As for everything else in this world, though, moderation is key.
Just don't abuse it and everything should be fine.

the reason why we are increasingly higher tests of cannabinoids is because the gardeners and connoisseurs have selected mutations with a certain gene responsible for producing the resin. This gene likely exists to attract pollinating insects and to make the pistils on the female flowers more likely to adhere with pollen grains from male flowers.

THC docks on the neurotransmitters and slows the chemical signal being send by the transmitter.
That's why it helps with epilepsy and other neurotransmitter problems, like tourette.
The slowing effect also effects the actual mind and not the brain, because you process more input you feel things more intense.
Your subsconsious brain gives your mind more information about something that is happening.
It's like watching a movie in slowmotion, you'll see and notice much more things, but you'll also forget more of those things because we have an limited amount of concentration.

    • @DeadShoes
      @DeadShoes 9 лет назад

I think that people who are inexperienced with cannabis are actually overwhelmed by the information the unconscious brain gives them (talking nonsense and not knowing how articulate something), but after you get used to the high then you can understand it more and more and you can use the slower information-rate to analyze things more and go more into details.
I used to love cannabis because of the mindshake it gives you and it was just a fuzzy, awesome and warm feeling.
Now I still get that feeling AND I understand the effect it takes on your brain and I try to use it to learn more creativly.

Hank, I smoke marijuana on a regular basis and I could tell you that it does not interfere with the proper function of the brain, I remember every single thing you said in the video. It only makes you forget negative thoughts, while keeping the ones that matter most. Although I agree that cannabinoids aren't the only substances that make use of cannabinoid receptors, I hate the flawed argument that that cannabinoid receptors in the brain aren't for weed because other receptors react to other drugs

  • @nofxorbust

stoners who are regular users have no difference in recall and memory. I know you're body gets used to it, but you still get the pelasure without the initial effects of memory loss or "getting the munchies" these things only affect you for a few days if you smoke it daily, From then it's just normal life.
I'm not saying there's no difference, obviously your brain would be better off with Anandamide But i am just pointing out that not every stoner gets hungry and forgets things everytime they smoke, this is just not true!

But in general, you can have very productive Heroin Addicts, that don't let it affect their productivity, but you'll never hear about those in the news because Heroin is Taboo, and you're not going to come out and say! Yes i take heroin and i'm fine! :P
but then there are people who just blame it on the drug,, when basically, they'd have been the same regardless of their drug of choice.

Honestly, if you use Heroin on a regular basis then it's only a matter of time before disaster strikes. If you use like every day then the countdown to destruction has already begun!! Only time you see people be productive on Heroin is bc they have not hit that crucial bad point yet but it is inevitable. At first it makes you super over-productive until time comes when it makes you basically totally unproductive!! Wealthy people can keep it under control just a little bit longer bc they have the money but also a higher risk of overdosing....eventually, it destroys ANYONE who keeps using it......and I Know this for a fact!!

    Wiki on ECS:
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a group of endogenous cannabinoid receptorslocated in the mammalian brain and throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, consisting of neuromodulatory lipidsand their receptors. Known as "the body’s own cannabinoid system",[1] the ECS is involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory, and in mediating the psychoactive effects of cannabis.[2] The ECS is also involved in voluntary exercise[3] and may be related to the evolution of the runner's high in human beings and related aspects of motivation or reward for locomotor activity in other animals.[4]

"Brick weed" was a term from a time when "Mexican red hair" marijuana, (we called it "dirt weed") was prominent in North America, *in the 70's.* It wasn't the worst weed, but pretty damn close.. lol. This was back before hydroponics were a thing. They would compress this fairly shitty weed into bricks to ship them. With the stems, seeds a plenty, and anything else they could put in the bricks to weigh them down for profit. I caught the tail end of this era in the early 80's when I first tried smoking weed. It's a joke compared to today's weed. And it's not so much that it's stronger today, which it is. But we could process this shitty weed down and make hash or cherry/honey oil. Which, other than the distillates they can process today, were as strong then as they are today. I also came from a town in Northern Ontario Canada in which we had an almost limitless supply of hash from overseas. I know it was the bikers that were bringing it in, but what connections they had to get the stuff was unknown to nobody's like me... lol. It's more that the quality of it is SOO much better today. I'm 57 now and have been a casual smoker for 41 yrs. and I wouldn't change a thing. It's no different than a person having a drink after work. It has never been an issue other than other people's assumptions of the drug prior to it becoming legal.... Which really wasn't a problem for me because if someone feels they have the right to judge your character, NOT based on your actions but on their own ill-informed pre-conceived notions. Then they're not worth your time.

I do know that I am mature enough to allow replies to my comments so others can disagree with me. Since you do not, let me reply here that I am glad you no longer trust the "twitchy little weirdo" and hope this means you will be commenting on other channels. Godspeed.

Allow me to reply (except to ad hominem fallacies). I never made any claims about the size of my brain or its comparison to other brains (I did note my maturity level, that's different). At no time did I ask or command you to stop commenting on this channel; I simply expressed my hope that you would not. I must object to your assumption that I "found you to one up". If you will notice, you replied to my comment first. And lastly I submit to you that you are not, as you claim, "busy". You have found the time to reply to me not once but twice. If my opinion were not important to you, then you would have ignored it from the beginning. The only other thing I can assume is that you may be trolling. I cannot make an assumption on that.

JR Ewing That seemed a little spiteful. After reading David Rye's comment he said nothing that I'm aware of that should have sparked such a remark. There's a saying I would like to try and put to use... "It is people like you, who make us look bad."

Doesn't the plant have to be heated significantly in order to produce psychoactive effects? Wouldn't this mean bugs eating the plant would *not* intoxicate them?

No. They are twins actually, no joke. Hank and John Greene

    • @Sarcasticron
      @Sarcasticron 10 лет назад +8

Actually FreeCandyGuy IS joking--or just confused. This guy--Hank Green--does the science-based Crash Course videos and his brother John does the non-science-based ones. They are definitely not twins either, unless their mother had a particularly long and difficult pregnancy: they were born seven years apart. Both have Wikipedia entries if you like to look them up; John recently became a famous novelist with his book "The Fault in our Stars."

      Sarcasticron
Sarcasticron is right except that they were not born seven years apart: John was born in 1977, and Hank was born in 1980.

And another small correction, John became a famous novelist long before TFiOS. I believe Looking for Alaska was actually his first NYT best-selling novel.

can you rename this video to "How Cannabis Works: THC" i think it empowers the whole reefer madness movement by calling it "weed" or "marijuana" since those names where made up by the DEA in the 60s to demonize cannabis use.

***** that was a myth your friend told you I used to hear it to never once got me high or in the slightest a buzz. It's not possible to get high from THC unless it's at least 2 ounces of raw weed you've ingested or cooked/heated. Also why the fk do you need $50 to buy weed? I can get a quarter(7gs) for $50 why do you just have to spend $50 lol why not just $10 if you're that desperate and actually want to get high that small and noticeable high is you thinking you're high when you're not it's your subconscious. All it does is put a stronger taste in your mouth.
