I always have a thought in my mind, that my sketchbook needs to be perfect. Every piece needs to be a masterpiece. I end up making nothing in the end. Im now finally understanding that..i just need to create! Its okay even if i make mistakes. Its okay even if my art isnt perfect. Im learning afterall and thats what is important. After the current one ends i can just start a new one and draw better there! Its a process..to make me the artist i aspire to be.

Something I've heard (I haven't tried it yet) is to scribble all over the first page. Basically the opposite of the video. It may help you feel less pressure to create all masterpieces. I personally leave my first page blank as I'm always too scared to ruin it..

I’ve been struggling with not making a ‘perfect’ drawing on my sketchbooks because I think it’s ‘wasting’ the paper. I know I should just draw and have fun but it feels wrong to do so. It’s been setting me back on drawing and as a result, I haven’t drawn in 3 years. I’m currently trying to draw again but I’m still struggling and looking at how my art has downgraded and isn’t ‘perfect’ discourages me to continue. Sorry, English is not my first language.

I end up skipping the first page of my sketch book, then coming back near or at the very end and take a long time, mainly because I want it to kinda be the best drawing in the book, so I come back at the end where I'm usually better than at the beginning. (That and, the first page always terrifies me 😂)

Yeah, I do something similar to my first page. I only write "my sketchbook" in some artistic way, write the date I began and then leave it to the very last drawing, so that I can easily see the progress from day 1 to the end.

It’s heartwarming to me to open the sketchbook and see me, knowing that these drawings, all the hard work put into this sketchbook, was all me. My bad pages from my last year's sketchbook I still need to finish: *Disproportioned chins of anime "cat boys" being sassy and blushing, looking away and noodle armed middle fingers showing up. Horribly bad drawn blood coming out of a random girls fresh chopped off wrist, takingthe hand with it, and crying. Shoyo Hinata, but on droogas and jumping up, head badly drawn too. Izuku Midoryia who looks traumatised (I don't blame him) and is basically saying "This is fine" whilst smiling weirdly*

I want to have a clear head when I start my sketches vs thinking about a specific character or design. I go a little manic when it comes to my art though. As someone with ADHD - I cannot for the life of me have a sketchbook. My brain worm doesn't allow for it to not be a chore, unfortunately. What you can do instead is use the spurts of energy we ADHDers tend to get and draw whenever you feel like it. My second tip is drawing something small everyday, like on a post-it. Thirdly, I like drawing online. It provides great accessibility for people with disability.

Thank you. I have been in an artblock for a very very long time. I have no motivation anymore, I used to love making art. Its just so hard to create now..When your videos come up I really do get a little push of motivation to just doodle anything that comes to mind when I get the chance.

I like that someone finally has this opinion. I like having a good first page and also get stressed by it. I thought too many people were saying “just scribble anything on your first page” so you don’t get restricted in being good. But i think it feels so much better with a great and proud first page. I know this is different for everyone but for me, yeah.

This video made me feel vulnerable. I've been avoiding anything related to art but each day i found myself keep drawn to them. I almost quit drawing when my hand went stiff as i holding a pencil. It took me about a week to get myself together again.

I might shy if someone is watching when I'm Sketching in my sketchpad because it's so messy and like when you take notes formulas for math problem and the next page of that is the final product.
I'm glad there is someone like you really give encouragement to us young artists

you’re right ! I guess I never thought it that way I’ve always wanted to improve but never knew how and just had a sketchbook laying there with drawings I do once in a while I love art! I guess taking it everywhere and drawing everything I like and find interesting won’t hurt. Art takes time a patience is something I realized after finding your page and your work is beautiful and really inspired me :)

All of your videos are so inspiring, especially for me as an amateur artist. This really resonated with me as I appreciate the advice about keeping old work. I draw both digitally and with pen and over time I’ve seen just how much I’ve improved. Thanks!

I like drawing a self portrait of my perception of myself. It's crazy to look back and see my ups and downs on the first pages of my sketchbooks. I can see how much my idea of myself has changed.

  • @Omnihilo

I like to start from the back and work my way to the front. So by the time I get to the end whatever I end up drawing on the first page should naturally come out looking better than where I started. It's also fun to then go backwards in the sketchbook, down memory lane, and see how far I've come. "Oh! I remember my first time practicing this pose, this palette, using this pen," etc.
Like everything else in life: We always see the finished product. But it isn't until you dig deeper that you see how it got there.

I always start a new sketchbook starting from the back to the front the reason for this is so I can learn through the way and use all the tips and practice to have the last page (the front page) look the best

Have you ever thought of reading or telling a night time story, because your voice is honestly so relaxing and calming. Interesting! I always leave the first page blank. It helps me feel like the sketchbook is already slightly more full, plus I can give it to any little kid who runs up to me and wants to draw as well.

I started doing this thing where I do urban sketching on a new sketchbook every time I travel. It allows me to worry less about making something perfect and focus more on capturing the emotion and vibe of the setting. It has led to some wonderful sketchbooks and lots of amazing memories. ❤️❤️

I gave up drawing 4 years ago since I got to college, pursuing my dream to be a pharmacist. But then, I accidently crossed path with one of your video.. re-igniting my passion to draw. I opened my sketch book covered with dust, hydrated my dried watercolor, and washed my rusty brushes.. the nostalgic feeling that I felt.. the joy and passion of my youth.. thankyou :)

I always see other people's sketchbook and compare to mine, and saw how almost all of them and masterpieces and none where random doodles like mine, from there I was in the mindset of having to perfect sketchbook but still have a lot of random doodles. I guess that is a part of me and my sketchbook

I love sketchbooks even though I'm not an artist there is something about sketchbooks that makes me happy it's like having a place to throw everything you've got in your mind without caring whether or not it's perfect like it's your safe place now I shouldn't call it a sketchbook because I rarely sketch in it but I have such a notebook it's really helpful I recommend.
And for those who think it should be perfect it's hard to accept imperfections but it's everywhere and also that if you never get out of your comfort zone you can't progress and that's how you get art blocks so go out there and be in love with it's messiness♡♡
