Kesh this is a great channel, your 100 days course also looks fantastic. Subbed. I'm currently doing Inktober, but it's always good to go back to the building blocks and principles. Opening a new sketchbook- I had a great idea for this a while ago, and it really ties all of the sketchbooks together: I see them as like issues of a magazine. I also have recurring subjects that each sketchbook has. Let's say all the sketchbooks are called something like "My Art Journals." For a better example, Dan Price calls his "The Midnight Chronicles". Each Sketchbook has it's own title as well. They go through the same process. First, it bugs me to see the sketchbook cover in it's original state. So I grab a glue stick and immediately put down some collage, almost at random. Then the Volume number and title. On the inside front cover goes the "editor's note", some printed text about that volume and my life at the time, things I am working on, etc., and the date. Then the first 4 pages are always, in no particular order: A Buddha, A Selfie, An Elvis, and a John Cougar Mellencamp. Why JCM? because he sang "Oh yeah, Life goes on, long after the thrill of livin' is gone." It really stuck in my head. The outside back cover gets a skull sticker, I have a whole book of them. Another recurring subject I draw often is an Anglerfish. I mostly draw from photo reference, I have a rule to not use any other form of reference, but that is just my process. I hope this helps, each artist can pick their own "compulsory" pages, I find it really kickstarts the whole volume. Each sketchbook also gets a "closing note" when it is done. I find it also helps to have a name for my art endeavors, a name for my studio. Example, Kim Jung Gi has "Superani". Whenever I draw an Elvis, it always has the caption as if I was crediting a source: "c/o Institute of Elvonic Studies". These kind of ideas just make the Sketchbook very inviting to work in, no more blank page-itis.
