Hi everyone! You may have seen some news about this game, and I know it’s very exciting but PLEASE do not bother the person with the game or ask them to post more or post quicker. They are getting concerned about the volume of comments they’re getting, and are losing motivation to post more. If you have more questions, check out the layton subreddit, or you can DM me on Twitter (@leachee_t)
thanks for keeping some fans still interested in Layton, as a late fan myself, I love that a video covers Layton this late into History and something that isn't really covered alot. Great Job.
@@ThingsNoOneCaresAbout i just love video essays/documentaries about things, there's just something magical about someone doing a deep dive in a condensed manner on subjects i would care about
Hello ! Being a huge fan of the Professor Layton series ever since the second game was released, I have to say that I really enjoy watching your videos. Just like most of the rest of the community, you are very passionate about the games and I'm glad you share this passion. I remember hearing about this (in)famous lost Layton game a few years back and I remembered really wanting to play it. Nowadays, I've lost some hope of ever playing it, especially after learning about the state of game preservation, especially in Japan. A really great video about that was released on the DidYouKnowGaming channel and I really recommend you watch it. They explained some aspects as why japanese people are reluctant towards game preservation (seen as "glorified piracy") and I really find that interesting. But I'm glad to see that the Layton community is really passionate and creative ! There is the Team Top Hat you mentioned that plans to create romhacks to create new stories using the assets from the DS games, but there is also a completely original fangame in the works, and the Layton Brothers manga that is getting translated. They are also projects for translations in other languages than English. Level-5 doesn't seem to want to revive the series soon, but we are not a community that just gives up ! That's just not what a gentleman would do.
I love that the last bit of your comment aged poorly 💯 I'm still hoping for Level-5 (and anyone needed to make it happen) to revive these games that seem to have been lost to time. I can't believe anyone would make a game and not keep a backup of the game files, someone HAS TO have it all on a random hard drive somewhere. So yeah, my point is just... please level-5, just let us play your games. I will genuinely pay to play it and I know I'm not the only one, especially now that a new main title is in the making. It would be the perfect time for a big Layton revival 🎩
"Things no one cares about" I grew up with this series so i DEFINITELY care about this :0 will probably edit this comment once i actually watch the video lol
I'm a bit late, but Copyright in Japan is a whole different story: If one is found to be in breach of the copyright, jail time is a very likely outcome, especially if one is making any sort of money with the copyrighted material in question. Distribution of the original in the form of copying falls under this, (keep in mind, a big Company, Nintendo, is attached to this brand) as does video material like walkthroughs or let's play etc. There have been cases of undercover officers approaching people online to gauge whether or not there are part of an illegal distribution ring/online community. And there have been cases where citizens shared content with non-citizens who turned out to sell said content for profit and the original sharer, who did so in good faith, was found guilty of aiding and abetting. Tl;Dr: Japanese Copyright Law and the prosecution thereof, sometimes through undercover police, is likely the reason why everyone keeps their Layton Murder Mansion to themselves.
I didn’t know at all about the game ! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and investigations! I love the Layton series to much, I’m happy to see a video in 2022 talking about it !!
Very emotional at the end of the video so sweet! Wonderful video this was so engaging and fun and now I want to go scour for info about this game!!!!!! I also played these when I was young as they were coming out and I have not really known other people who played them or loved them so I feel very happy to engage with people who are also very into these games! It’s very wholesome! Great video loved it you’re the best!
I have a similar story where I played these games around the time the last few in the main series came out, and being able to see people that are so dedicated to the series warms my heart! I grew up on these games and they got me through middle and high school as well, so I’m glad that thanks to the fans all isn’t lost or dead just yet. Thank you for this video and I’m so excited for any further news on this game and the new game coming out!
Very mysterious situation!! And thanks I love this channel too :) It's really cool to hear about how big an impact this silly little brain teaser game series has had on so many people! Even my dad who doesn't play videogames played through all 4 on the DS that I'd lend him once I was finished and that for sure helped us get closer when I was young.
Hey love you and love this! im so happy youre continuing layton content, i was wondering if you would continue the series reveiws tbh anything layton related id love, you have a great and intriguing voice! much love
I first played Miracle Mask years ago but didn’t get very far before being distracted by something else and putting it down. Fast forward to 2022 I found the cartridge so gave it another go. What happened next really surprised me; I played through the entire thing and absolutely adored it. Granted, I still have the rest of the series to play, but knowing that the series is now pretty much dead made me so sad! I’m honestly just so pleased that there are fans who are passionate enough to keep it alive through things like this. Thank you for your video - it was a joy to learn about this lost game, and I deeply hope that it can be rereleased one day for people like us to enjoy.
Damn I’m late as hell! But it’s so good to see someone talk about this game because I’ve been looking in to it for years and as you say, there’s hardly anything out there on it, but I think one day Level 5 will translate it… Well I can dream 😂
I really love the video essay style and like I hadn't really considered lost media before But the way you've described it has made it seem really cool to just think about.
Wonderful video! Your editing is so good in this! Your welcome for the pictures! If you need any other help I can research/ give anything I don’t mind! As you talked about your favorite photo on the Roid layton backgrounds, mine is this one I just can not find. Someone sent a photo of their phone showing a good chunk of the backgrounds and only two of them I did not have. It’s this one with Young red capped layton and Claire. I’ve been looking for this for so long haha. This video also isn’t a bummer! You have a good sub count with great content, and with more eyes on it we can spend more time with trying to find it with new people.

someone else mentioned this already but japanese copyright law is very very strict and pretty much everyone in japan is deathly scared of breaking that law. i've been preserving long lost japanese pc games from the 90s for the past few years and i've never once encountered a single time where a japanese owner of said game was willing to help with preservation efforts. in fact, none of them have ever even been willing to sell said games for any price over social media. the one and only way i've been successful is by buying games for sale on auction sites like mercari/yahoo auctions. any other way is a total bust and a complete waste of time and effort.
