  • I stretch the cab of my old 1952 Dodge M37 to fit modern powered reclining seats inside. Afterwards, I weigh out some of the pros and cons of making the frame shorter, or not.

This video popped up in my 'suggested channels' and I do like those old M 37's so what the heck I gave it a watch. I've done some metal fab in the past so watching a fertile mind getting at it is a pleasure. Thank you for keeping your music volume the same as your voice and not choosing 'Beavis and Butthead' favorites. I'll poke my way through your videos over time.
    Thanks again!

Don’t forget to save that old steel to use to rebuild the transmission tunnel my friend.
Personally I would make the box longer to fit the new frame.
Or keep the original m37 box and use the new space between the box and the cab to hold two spare tires

Nice job on the frame extension Dave!! I'm going to shorten my frame 22" and keep the cab and Box as they were. I used a Dodge Dakota fuel tank. It was shortened the right amount.

You are doing just fine with out the break. Great video. I have a 53 m37. was thinking about extending the cab. Your video showed me just how easy it would be. Thanks

It wasn't too bad at all! I should have the seats in it and the floor buttoned up by Friday.

    Excellent Dave!!!
    very good job!!
maybe if you play with some pictures maybe you don't need to modify the bed. I would do some comparisons using edited pics. the math is ok but maybe an image would make you decide better

Thanks! I'm hoping soon enough there will be a nice (not wet) day out and I can roll the truck out to get a good side profile of the whole thing to get a better feel for it!

I have a 52', I'm cool with putting a 4BT, disks and PS in mine but this is too far. At some point I'm just going to fit a bench seat in it, I have some in mind that would fit.

I’d go longer frame. I’m more of a pick up guy than a rock buggy one tho. I think if you bobbed it it would be better on the trail but less practical for every day driving. Maybe look at legacy power wagons to get an idea of bed lengths and wheel bases

i saw where someone had shorten the steering colum 8 inches mi ne has a metal roof so that would be real trouble to move the box if i change any thing it will have to steering column

    • @DavePepperX

That's an electric barrel-grip metal shear

  • @glennahoopes2895

Why not make a small gap between the cab and bed to carry your spare tire and maybe a tool box?

    • @DavePepperX
      @DavePepperX  Год назад +1

I like that idea, but I've since went ahead to build a custom 8 foot truck bed to keep it looking closer to original.

@@DavePepperX the bigger military trucks did carry spares between cab and bed and had a small hoist to help drop and raise the spare. It also had a little rounded ramp that help hold the spare in place, but also helped when lowering and replacing the spare.
