I disagree with leavin them where theyre at. Sometimes they do need that input, theyre not always gonna take it but you have to try, ive lost people i truly loved to addiction or other shit because i said nothin at all. People i helped raise and loved and would do anything for, i let them slip away because i ignored the shit that was goin on, i do believe if i had just reached out, said anything at all or tried something, anything. Ive buried over 15 of my own family, im 32 years old, i dont care what you say, you have to try. Until youve buried parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles even a brother you helped raise, along with several others i dont want to hear it. You dont fuckin let them do their thing and let them fall, you fuckin try.
So sorry to hear what you've been thru. I didn't say to ignore it but the only person capable of changing their life is the person themselves - the one struggling with addiction. I too have lost loved ones. Supported them thru rehabs and relapses. What I'm speaking to is the codependency that enables the behaviors. When your helps not helping, stop helping. Thats a common saying shared with family members of addicts and it rings true to my personal experience. Wishing you all the best and take care.
