I'm happy to see this review because I am awaiting my first SkyMax model -- the Blue Angels F8F Bearcat. Seeing the build and detail quality of this Devastator shows that SkyMax builds some really nice models. This is my first good look at a SM model, in the metal, as you say. See, your reviews are educational. 🤠👍
Dam I really need a Bearcat myself, haha. You wont be disappointed by SkyMax, the ones I have opened so far are really well detailed. Got to love the metal 🤘, I'm an old metal head from way back. So when ever I say that in my videos there's usually a guitar riff playing in my head, haha. Don't tell me my videos are educational, haha that's terrible news. Just stirring mate, always good to hear they help someone in some way. As I always see I do my reviews purely from the average "Joe" collector way of looking at things. I am in no way a diecast expert. Thanks as always for watching!! Enjoy your Bearcat!!!!
@@guaporeturns9472 I think later on they were painted in that darker colour. This one's an early bird, you can see in the video footage the ones getting shot down are in this pale light grey colour.
@@heavymetaldiecast The change over between schemes was occurring at that time and you do see both schemes concurrently for different aircraft. The grey replaced the neutrality scheme.
Fantastic indeed. BTW you did not fool me re the stand as I have a couple of these!! One of the very few models you can view with magnification and see no flaws in paintwork or glue. On point is that if you wish to exchange wheels down for up later (not that I suspect that is you lol!) they will be very difficult to get out. I actually got 2 of the same aircraft for one of each display option- they were that cheap in the day.
Haha dam nearly had you. The thing I found hard was getting out the closed torpedo bay area. It has no notch in it to get the hook into and it fits perfectly flush, haha. Took me ages, haha
@@heavymetaldiecast I had forgotten that closed option. I can well believe it but you can't have everything- these are perfectly flush and other models have doors/hatches which don't fit at all. We collectors are never satisfied- what a whinging lot some are. Whinging- hope I haven't opened a door there lol!
@@peterhewson3216 I'm easily satisfied, it's great if a model has good fitment and nice joins. But I'm realistic. If you want something perfect you'd build a kit to your level of satisfaction 😀. Don't worry I won't mention anything along the lines of " Whinging Poms" 🤣
@@heavymetaldiecast Oh - you have- if the cap fits lol! Plenty of whinging when trying to unbox some of these beauties and install the ordnance- trust me!! Like a good un I am. Very true-if you want absolute perfection and attention to different variants- yup, buy a model and build it. Though some of those have inaccuracies too. And they are not easy as my Sherman Firefly building will testify - doing it today between the rain fall. It is England after all!
@@peterhewson3216 haha, at least no one has mentioned cricket yet..whoops,haha. I havent touched a model kit myself for a loooong time, haha. I may have to to start filling gaps for aircraft that don't come in diecast when I start my timeline of military aircraft display, haha. Don't worry its been raining here all weekend too, which sucks cause I can't record when the rain is pouring down as it creates noise that can be heard when recording. Has England ever had a drought, haha
Great model only wish you could move the rear gunner gun up and down from stowed position to fighting position also I could be wrong but it looked like the landing hook moves? But I could be wrong about that?
@@andrewmartin8739 Yes sir it's definately 1:72 and for sure would look great in say 1:48 that a lot of aircraft come in. Thanks for checking out the video 😀👍
One of my favorite planes.
Particularmente acho um belo torpedeiro! Gosto do canopy do TBD-1 , ótimos detalhes, modelo excelente👏
@@alexandremarcelino7360 this certainly has a lot of detail. Thank you for watching 😀
One of my favorite planes. The Devastator did help sink the Shoho during the battle of the Coral Sea but yeah , it had a hard time
@@guaporeturns9472 Yeah I feel sorry for the crews that had to struggle with this bird 😐
Very well made model. Like the entire SkyMax series. HM can sometimes make cool models.
You right, the SkyMax models I have got so far have been really great!!!
I remember getting this model in 2019 while i was searching for the battle of midway one
Nice, they certainly come up well don't they!!! Thanks for watching!!!

I always thought the Midway Devestators were more of a slate blue in color? Either way it’s beautiful

Nice looking model , probsbly better in a larger scale 1/43rd that must be 1/72 scale is it
