    Pay great attention to the details of footings, columns, and use double tie beams. Next is think about your roof design to hold the 3x6 solar panels in future

  • @paulfredrickson2181
    @paulfredrickson2181 Год назад +20

    Funny Finn, the house I'm building looks almost identical.
    The only thing I wish I did differently was make a flat concrete roof with metal roof line extensions so a Typhoon can't remove your entire roof.
    A flat roof is great for Solar panels and rain water collection but be sure to paint it white if you want to reflect Solar radiation.
    I learned about a "thermal gap" between the roof and insulation layer. Filipino contractors didn't understand it until I showed it to them. They usually attach the insulation directly to the roof, which just transfers the heat. My mother- in- law said the "new way" keeps the house cooler. Check it out.
    The open concept is best, in my opinion, for a cooler house and with the ocean breeze should almost guarantee you won't need to use power hungry AC.
    Awesome design Finn and Sherlyn.Very excited for you both......just don't get stressed and have fun watching your dream house appear!

      Paul, could you please better explain to us and describe what type of roof you are recommending? We are building on Bohol soon and are pleased to accept any advice on how to keep our house/lives cooler! Thank you.

    • @paulfredrickson2181
      @paulfredrickson2181 Год назад +2

      @@maxandslackey6292 Look up Radiant Barrier. My contractor didn't understand this. He said "We always did it this way." They actually refused to do it my way, until I threatened to fire them. I't cost me a few more pesos because they had to hang the double sided foil about 6-8 inches from the metal roof. It made the house a lot cooler.

    • @paulfredrickson2181
      @paulfredrickson2181 Год назад +1

      My roof is also 5% to flat and color white. I'm planning on putting solar panels on the roof as well so the solar reflection off the white roof with the shading of the panels will decrease both the heat effecting to the Radiant Barrier and the heat on the bottom of the solar panels. PV operates better in the lower the temperature.
      Because of the slight angle of the roof, we will be collecting rainwater which is soft water so no mineral buildup in the pipes or the appliances....and its FREE!

    I had a contractor build our house in 2015 in Lipa Batangas. The total price did not include light fixture, kitchen cabinets, electrical wires from the hydro pole, and electrical box at the hydro pole. I had to up grade many things such as floor tiles, roof sheets, doors, water fixtures, toilet,sink. He wanted to give me the cheapest material possible but I was lucky I took a photo copy of the building material he use to get the permit from the city which shows the price of each items..so when he tried to use cheaper materials I would complain and show him I had the copy of the material list prices. Be careful because they show you a very nice house but after they start they say that is not included in the price and if you want it it’s going to be additional cost…Good luck in your project..I can wait to see from start to finish..by the way we are planing to build another house later in 2023 and maybe I can find somethings I like from your house I can do also to ours.

    House looks great !! I am an architect and one piece of advice I would give is make sure there is very good waterproofing design and also correct drainage for the flat roof / viewing deck directly over most of your living area. Any mistakes here or poor construction work here will cost a lot of money in the future if it leaks. Plus as you know rainfall in Philippines can be extremely heavy so a lot of water to drain off your large flat roof deck. Best of luck though. I'm sure it will be wonderful when finished and look forward to following your adventure. 👍

In regards to the windows 🪟 go the storm proof/typhoon, very popular here in Florida and worth the price over and over...make sure the drain away from the house is taken care and of course the roof win resistance 288km/180m/hr and finally have a safe room in case...congratulations Finn, Sherlyn and Jake!!!

    One quick suggestion if I may (I am an architect)… I noticed that in your master bedroom you have a door from the main bedroom space itself into the walk-in closet. If you move that door to be from the bedroom hallway side on the right instead, you would then not disrupt anybody in the main bedroom space when you were going in an out and you would also be able to delete the door from the bedroom hallway direct into the bathroom and only have it from the walk-in closet into the bathroom, saving you wall space and also acoustically isolating the bathroom from the bedroom. This would clean up the look and feel of the main bedroom space it self, and also separate the light, sound, and activity of bedroom functions from the sleeping area, making it a bit more like an oasis when you are in there.

    Wow, very nice 3d design of your future house. It’s spacious in the living room, airy and with the glass door and windows, be sure it will not easily get shattered during a super typhoon. It would have been more nice if the pool is infinity. Where’s the dirty kitchen? Can’t have a beautiful Scandinavian type of house alone without incorporating a Filipino dirty kitchen! 😉 that’s where you do the frying, grilling and other nitty gritty stuff. Make your dirty kitchen like a small native hut with bamboo pillars. Good luck on your project and will be looking forward to its completion and first occupancy❤️

    That flat roof looks like it will be easier for a strong wind to blow away. Google the pros and cons. They may be inexpensive to build but they don't last long because of drainage problems. They may have to be replaced every 10 years.

    For my personal opinion on your dream house, since your house is in a hilltop which is prone to a serious destructive wind due to a yearly typhoon in our country I recommend or suggest to make your roofing in concrete slab to make you comfortable in any weather condition and you can utilize it also like a view deck. if possible less roofing overhang. That's only my personal opinion, you can take it or you can ignore it. Thanks

    Here in the Philippines heat enters mainly through windows if doors are closed . In Scandinavia and Iceland cold is kept away by having multiple layers of glass, 2-3 and yet an extra window facing cold first and taming wind. If something similar could be done against heat effectively, the need for cooling is less and energy and money saved.
    Simple structures are easier to design to withstand sometimes harsh effects of nature. And they are cheaper to build.
    Like beams and pillars.

Love the Scandinavian style, the position of the house facing that breathtaking views, the open concept between the living room & kitchen/center island with tons of cabinets. Very Simple but elegant👌 Since you're planning on expanding your family in the near future; go with quartz for the kitchen counter top/center island rather than granite. It's harder/durable & it isn't porous like granite, very easy to clean, safer for the kids ( bacteria-free) & less expensive as well. It’s great you want that view but, it is very windy there and the extra length on the roof maybe a concern 🤔 I’m not a fan of big windows because of no privacy, expensive to replace and it’s weaker than an actual wall. Finn, please don’t be offended or discouraged by my meaningless comment. Remember, you live there and get to see the views everyday, just make sure you concentrate about making the house safe and practical for your uses. How exciting. Congrats.
    Just out of curiosity, I have a bunch of questions. I hope you don’t mind me asking.
    Could you put more distance between the master bedroom and the pool? How about another exit on the other side? Maybe lead to an outdoor patio? Is that the final color scheme? Is there a basement? I’m assuming there’s central AC? Are you putting a fence around the property? A pathway that goes from the backyard to the beach?

      I wanted the pool originally even closer to the bedroom, I want jump in the morning hehe. Color/scheme not final/accurate. No basement. Ac outside. Fence yes

    The roof over the master bed room could be made to be concrete slab to make a wrap around terrace over the pool and more private sun space and place for Sherlyns crafts.

    The first design room near the swimming pool has vertical window..make the room colder because the air will not be trapped it circulates in and out as airvents..

    I am happy to see that you two are still together. I have started seeing you many years ago with the other youtuber like Kulas, Maverick etc... I have not seen your videos like two years already and so I have to watch all of your videos from where I left it to get updated. I am always so happy watching all of you before and sure your videos will again entertain me.
