As a gay guy solidly into adulthood, I can’t imagine how much easier adolescence would have been if I saw a positive, uplifting coming-of-age story featuring a gay romance (based on the trailer). I would have felt seen. Glad the youth of today seem to be getting that.
So, I'm an older guy who doesn't watch much television. I saw this on my Netflix and thought I'd give it a few minutes of watch time, fully expecting disappointment. Instead, I fell in love. NINE full series binges later, I still have real tears of joy and love sufficient to be wiped away by the end of episode 8. Heartstopper is a masterpiece. It's one of those very rare gifts of cinema that captures, enthralls, satisfies, and delights its audience. Thank you to Netflix and everyone involved in this production, especially Joe Locke and Kit Connor. Because, "My life is way better because I met you."
How has this show managed to perfectly capture: British schools, the British teenage experience, queer friendship groups, the specific brand of homophobia in British schools, young love, the very feeling of being young, British, queer, and in love both romantically and platonically? It looks absolutely stunning. So faithful to the books and also so fresh and bold. I cannot wait
Honestly nothing against Joe, but slightly disappointed with that casting, bcs isn't Charlie supposed to have a darker/tan skin?? Still, can't wait to watch it tho...
I'm just curious since I'm not from the UK. Do all British high school uniforms look like that? It looks cool ngl. It's the equivalent of uniforms of prestigious schools in my country.
I'm going to watch this masterpiece in one sitting. I can literally watch more than 100 episodes and not complain. This show is perfection on every level Edit: I'm crying I'm mind blown this is phenomenal>.
I just finished this and it's weird to say, but this series was oddly therapeutic to me. My whole gay life, I've only ever seen depressing or traumatic coming out stories, young men getting kicked out of their house, hooking up with strangers and older men, society and parents being unaccepting, guys staying in the closet forever and all of that absolute MESS being the norm. It's sooo refreshing to see a naturally developing, healthy relationship between two teen boys taking the forefront in which nothing is too extreme, the classic pain narrative doesn't dominate, and conflicts are resolved fairly quick. And they're able to stand up for themselves and each other. Also I love the bisexual representation, that's not something seen enough either. This is an amazing and heartwarming series, and I can't wait for season 2 (Netflix better give it to us, if they don't I'll riot because they have a bad habit of canceling whatever they want for no good reason)
Yes! This! For way too long it's been LGBT suffering that sells, even happy films like call me by your name tack the final scene on the end sloppily just to ensure LGBT can't be seen to be happy, and even if they do end up being happy the main focus of the show/film is usually them suffering because they're LGBT. Even love Simon that everyone seemed to love was about someone being blackmailed until they basically blackmailed their crush to come out or they didn't love him. Not to mention films/series where being gay is a characters only personality trait, in both love Simon and call me by your name the main characters only personality traits are vaguely liking music. It's nice to see LGBT people just existing whilst also acknowledging that LGBT people still face struggles, and giving them just as much character as straight characters.
🥰 This warms my heart. I loved this series. Been on a "gay" binge the last few days. Between this and the short Connor & Jayden my heart is full. Can't wait for the next two seasons.
this is filmed so beautifully. the lighting is perfect. it makes every scene feel special and unique. the cast is amazing. so funny and so fit for each character. i’m glad this was made so well because the books deserve good representation and this definitely gave that!
Read all the Heartstopper books and its freakish how everyone looks so much like the characters, as specially Charlie. I also love how they added the drawn sort of graphic novel look into the show it looks so perfect and stylistic.
Charlie looks the least like the comic character. In the comic he has blue eyes and olive skin. Here he has dark brown eyes and pale skin. The only similarity is his hair
This made my bisexual heart so happy. I teared up many times while watching it. I LOVED everything about this show! I binged it today and I just love how everything is so well done. The story, the build up , the cast, their chemistry everything is to the point. Nothing was under or overdone. We need more shows like this. 🌈💜❤️💚
Aww! I think that I cried many times when reading the web-comic, and I hope I do the same thing when I watch the show! ^_^ I love Nick and Charlie's relationship so much! :D
"He is the most straight person I have ever seen" they are finally going to address in a series the fact that being gay or queer has nothing to do with appearance, and also the person who said it (Elle) is queer, showing that they can also prejudge.
please yall don't understand how happy i am for this, heartstopper means a lot to me and seeing it become a TV show it's everything i've ever wanted. This is the representation we need, and i can't imagine how many queer people are going to watch this and feel represented, just like me :)
I cannot express enough how grateful I am that this series happened. Upon watching this, I've experienced both identity and existential crisis. I have been on the closet for almost 3 years now and this series made me see how much I yearn for a support system, since I have been struggling on my own and suppressing my feelings. Two days ago, I came out as bisexual to my closest friends and I've never felt so free. Since then, I always wake up every morning with tears of joy knowing that I don't have to hide anymore and be able to open up to them. I love my friends so much.
“Actually I was going to send him a strongly worded dm” lmao that was gold, also I really like that this is a romcom and not a coming out story with a romance plot line I really just want a queer romcom and I think I’m going to get it 🙂
I’m a whole 32 years old but fell in absolute love with this show. I wish I had this kind of media when I was young, but I’m so glad kids nowadays can have what I didn’t. This is such a feel-good show I can’t believe how obsessed with it I’ve become!
66 and the same… and the movie came with grief as we were so closeted because of both the anti-gay laws and the soon to be hysteria of the moral majority. Most of us lost out on what are normal experiences for teens. Society deprived us of them.
Everytime the trailer ends I see my reflection in phone's screen. The smile of pure happiness and contentment on my face. This is more than perfection, Alice and the whole team deserves nothing but success.
As someone who's read all the books I can't be more excited for it to have an actual series. If you haven't read the books I highly recommend it! It's super good and really worth it!❤
As someone from a very homophobic country this series make feel happy that there are actually countries that have accepted LGBT. Hope I can immigrate to one such country
@@jakwashere104 yeah and I’m pretty sure she helped the actors understand their characters and stuff, she really helped out with the series, which is great as it means the adaptation is going to be amazing
This show has made me feel so represented, I can't even explain it. I went to a private school, that was dominantly men, where we wore uniforms, and I had to deal with closeted boys either making fun of me for being gay, or secretly wanted to kiss me. However, I met someone that was so kind to me and handsome, that I ended up having a crush on him. Even though he doesn't know this, I am thankful for him because he helped me get through the hardest times in my life. I can relate to both Charlie and Nick when watching this. I can relate to Nick trying to understand his identity, and Charlie just trying to survive high school and just wanting to be loved. I am so thankful that these books and show is so uplifting, because I feel so many LGBTQ romantic stories are so depressing and sad, and this isn't the case. It's nice to watch something that deals with real challenges, but also makes you go away "punching the air" and screaming yay. I am so thankful that we have a show like this, because I've never found a show before that has related to my past so much. I wish I had this in my teenage years, because I know it would have helped me so much when getting through those tough years. Netflix, Alice Oseman, thank you. Thank you for making these beautiful characters and storyline.
I’M SO HAPPY TO SEE HEARTSTOPPER FINALLY HAVE ITS ADAPTATION- THIS STORY IS SO SPECIAL TO ME, JUST LIKE MANY OF US, AND I HOPE SO MANY MORE PEOPLE CAN BE INTERESTED THAN JUST THOSE WHO HAVE READ IT

As a transgender women myself, and being confused with my gender and sexuality since school, and coming out after graduated, this movie moved me so much.. I watched this entire show in one night, and it still leaves me with a warm emotion till now. Great story!
Please allow me to recommend a boys' love series from Thailand. "My School President" It's such a wholesome show, full of cute, sweet and funny moments with really good music in every episode. So many people agree that it's their comfort show and is becoming one of their favourite BL series. It's currently on air, and has received rave reviews from international audiences. It's getting more and more popular among non-Thai viewers. You can watch it on RUclips with English subtitles.
This feel so surreal. I remember a couple years back first discovering the comics and absolutely falling in love, then a year later Alice announced there would be a Netflix adaptation and my heart burst with happiness. I am so beyond excited for this, it feels so authentic and they have the set, costuming and characters to a tee. In other words, it looks amazing and I cannot wait for the 22nd!
Ever since this trailer was released, I read all the chapters available on webtoon, and I would say that the comic is fantastic. I can't wait to see this soon on Netflix.
Its so pure and soft, I fell immediately in love with that story. And everyone you read, that it's a lovestory, which is so relatable for a lot of LGBTQ+ people...but I think the special thing is not that, its that it's so relatable to LTBTQ+ people and straight people too. It's just a wonderful love story everyone can relate to. I am straight and I could relate with every feeling of love, it didn't felt like all these other gay love storys where the central point is on being gay. Here, its just how love feels and it shows, that it feels just the same as all other love storys, that it's just beautiful and pure and that this wonderful feeling has nothing to do with the person you fall in love with and I think it's beautiful because the sexuality doesn't change the feeling of love.
Finally a series that depicts being lgbtq in a lighthearted and positive manner. It’s so nice that children now have an example in queer media that’s simply happy and loving. Instead of the usual drama and abuse we’ve grown accustomed to. Nice work Netflix!
I must say that the British teens' movie is the best. the casting on this series is so spot on. they look like teenagers not like American series that cast adults to play a high schoolers. I really love how the story goes. I know there're some books or series with a similar story but I just really love this series so much. as a person who was bullied from elementary school to high school just because I was kinda feminine and did not act like a normal boy I get it what Charlie must feel until some point I get used to getting bullied. I wish i can have a relationship like charlie and Nick, but to bad being a gay in my country is like a crime. so i always love to see a happy ending in a show.
this trailer is one of the best ive ever seen not only does it create interest and frames the story in an incredibly positive way without spoiling anything specific, its also VERY true to the original, in fact theyre so accurate the scenes look like theyve been lifted from the novel itself
For a very long time Heartstopper has been a very special story for me. I am not joking when I say that it has saved my life, I will always be indebted to Alice for creating and sharing this beautiful story with us. I am beyond happy to be seeing how many more people are discovering it! Can't wait for the series, a dream come true.
This feels like some daydream I might have about what the show would look like as a huge fan of the comics. I'm honestly kinda speechless, especially seeing all their outfits are the same and the sign that just says MUSIC above Charlie's bed, it really does feel like it belongs with the comic. I can't wait to watch this.
Normally I would be ashamed that I binge watched an entire series 4 times in 3 days..... I am not the least bit ashamed to admit that I did it now! This is so amazing! It takes me back to my questioning years. I've been out and proud pansexual for almost 11 years now and it feels so amazing that the new generation has it a little bit easier then we had back then. And to just imagine what the generations before me had to suffer through just to be their true selves. I am on my fifth time watching it now. This time with my 9 year old nonbinary kiddo and it feels so awesome to have this beautiful story to show them that it is ok to be who you are and to be able to love who you love. I thank everyone involved in the making of this wonderful work of art! I LOVE IT!! 💜💜💜💜
This is honestly the most wholesome depiction of youth LGBTQ depiction I've the pleasure of watching. As a bisexual guy, I felt so happy that Nick figures out he is bisexual and is firm about it towards the end. Bisexuality is often depicted as a stepping stone for being gay and while some people do that, there are legitimate bisexuals. There are hardly any good depictions of bisexuality. I really hope to get more content like this. 💗💜💙
Oh my gosh this series is honestly so beautiful. It gives me a better understanding of how people feel within the lgbtq+ community dealing with hate and the challenges which is terrible :(. It made me feel so happy and joyful whilst watching it and i really hope a season two comes out :D
As I am reading the graphic novel, this trailer is sooo accurate to so many parts of this novel it is insane I’m hoping it stays true when it comes out in a few days!!

Nick's character has helped me realize that there's nothing wrong with being yourself, you shouldn't hide yourself and pretend to be someone you're not around the people who are supposed to be your friends. I've lived my high school years pretending and worrying about what people thought of me and i still do now at 21, but it's time to stop. As a gay guy solidly into adulthood, I can’t imagine how much easier adolescence would have been if I saw a positive, uplifting coming-of-age story featuring a gay romance (based on the trailer). I would have felt seen. Glad the youth of today seem to be getting that.

NINE full series binges later, I still have real tears of joy and love sufficient to be wiped away by the end of episode 8. Heartstopper is a masterpiece. How has this show managed to perfectly capture: British schools, the British teenage experience, queer friendship groups, the specific brand of homophobia in British schools, young love, the very feeling of being young, British, queer, and in love both romantically and platonically?

Me too

the graphic novel is great!!! omg im so excited and i cant get over that most actors are IDENTICAL to those in the novel and they're YOUNG ACTORS not 30yo playing teens im already in love 😭
this series deserves all the love and recognition because of of how beautifully every character is depicted.
@𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 bot💀
im so excited for this!! its rare to see LGBT (specifically gay) media that captures romance and love in a cute/positive light. it was kinda rough growing up as a gay boy where the very limited selection of gay films/tv mainly depicted abuse, pain, and oversexualization :( this is a good step in the right direction!
Did you read the book? It's amazing in my opinion.
@@fems.ss1 i didn’t! i really want to someday though :)
@@mini-yr5ni it's a comic book
Even though I ain't LGTB, bro I literally ✨ cried ✨ during Nick and Charlie's first kiss it was so adorable and my heart 💞 m e l t e d 💞. I really do wish more shows like this existed, everytime I think of it I just get this massive dump of serotonin and it's just A- ❤🧡💛💚💙💜💖💝💘💗💓💞💕🖤
All the hearts are needed for this show. All of them.
aww, I'm glad that it was a show allies could enjoy too
@@cornblaster7003 im not like homophobic... im an ally
@@caroline0492 we thank you for your service?
I’m a fan of the books and I just finished watching the entire show in 4 hours. The ending was so wholesome. I can’t wait for them to be in Paris for season 2. Volume 3 is my fav!!!
4 hours 💀💀
is the first season soley based the first book only?
@@ivyannieayala2880 I think it is based off the first two books
@teshi I watched it in 2 hours and 40 minutes 😳
There was like 5 minutes of outro
Wanted to watch the series first before diving into the webtoon. I don't want to make the same mistake like I did with CMBYN. I read the book before watching the film and I sort of like expected stuffs from the book to really manifest in the movie so I was kind of disappointed.
okay, so I watched the trailer like an hour ago, found the webtoon and I just can't stop giggling and blushing and squeaking. they are so adorable.
OMG WHATS THE WEBTOON CALLED PLEASE🫶
@@meganm1303 the same 'heartstopper'
0:58 love that they incorporated some of Alice Oseman's artwork into the show
@bilal wtf =))) get out of here you homophobic
this is SO important! this series made me so emotional because it touched in a place of pain that was buried deep in me in a very simple and beautiful way! PLEASE NEVER CANCEL THIS!!!!!! I NEED THE SECOND AND THIRD AND FOURTH AND INFINITE AND ETERNAL NEW SEASONS!!!!! Literally my favorite series of my whole life!!! it made me believe in humanity again!!!! Please, I need the second season!!!!!!!!!!
I like the look of this! Not that deep, but looks like a fun show. Plus the characters actually look their age for ONCE
the books is a little deep lmao i hope they didn’t right out charlie’s mental health issues
Depending on how much they adapt from the comic it is pretty deep in a good way.
I haven't seen this yet and the trailer already has me in tears. Never in my life did I imagine there will come a time when stories of people like me would be accepted and embraced as part of the collective human experience like this. Thank you Netflix!
Netflix? Pffft.
THANK ALICE OSEMAN! 🥰
Watch Young Royals or all the different versions of SKAM, druck, WTFock....The last 10 years a lot of series were made on this theme/topic. How could you miss that.
@@anneefs4139 well, yeah those are gay too, but this show was definitely more relatable to growing up with the queer teenage experience. Especially since this is a lot more joyful and warm rather than depressing and stressful, you know ?
@@anneefs4139 it's also not rated MA which is so so refreshing !
your story *is* part of our collective human experience. *hug* (if you like hugs and want one)
I've got one thing to say: Netflix, you'd better not mess this up.
I love how many of the details they took from the webcomic. Like it literally looks so much like it. Exact dialogue, outfits, and bedrooms!!!
FINALLY! Teenagers portraying teenagers.
Yeah screw that love simon guy
Lmaaaooo yeah idk what's their age but atleast they look like teenagers. Motherfucking Hollywood and korean dramas do be slapping high school uniforms on people who obviously are in their mid 20s and expect us to enjoy that shit. 🤦♂️
As a gay person, I love the story so much and there are so many miniscule details that I just relate to. It would have helped me so much to read/watch this as a teen so I'm super excited it will get to a wider audience and can hopefully help them too!
After reading the entire graphic novel series, I couldn't be more excited to see a tv show adaptation and I can't wait until it's finally available to watch on Netflix!
Can I ask if it has a happy ending? Some of us are so tired of tragic LGBT representation ):
@@Cutie_mon From the 3 books I've read so far, I can confirm that a lot of it is happy although there are some hardships they have to face along the way like any other teenager would.
Just watched the first 2 seasons. I'm not going to spoil anything so don't worry. My favorite parts of the show were little moments between Charlie and Nick, when they start laughing and giggling and Charlie asks "Why are we like this?" playfully. They were so cute together it was almost unbearable to watch. And the way Nick is so protective of Charlie at all times.. my heart wanted to melt. I can't wait for season 3. I don't usually like watching teen drama shows, and opt for something like True Detective, but honestly this is one of my favorite shows I have ever seen. Everyone is so lovable and genuine. I highly recommend anyone who hasn't seen it yet to watch it. Almost a 10/10 for me.
netflix better not disappoint us because the trailer seems to be promising
I think this series should get emmy and golden globe nominations.

I think so too
Nick: "You're a good friend."
Tao: *death glare* "I know."
Love it!😂
“I was thinking I’d send him a strongly worded DM but murders fine too” LOL!!!! Best line EVER!!!!!!
The little “Hi” they each give each other is so cute!!! I can’t wait to binge this!
