    Really chuffed for you that HS2 has got in touch to discuss your plans. Hopefully they'll give you decent access.
    Thanks for the Wuppertal video, really made me smile. The street scenes are excellent and really capture the floating above the hustle n bustle nature of the Schwebebahn.

    Wuppertal is such a unique and odd place thanks to its geography and the Schwebebahn. I love the unique steampunk look of the city, combining classicist architecture, industry, hidden stair passages and iron beams into a unique and dense blend of a city. It looks as if Tim Burton's Gotham decided to become a mid-size German city.

    Keep up the good content! You’re doing what I wish I had the skill and effort to do myself.

    I have friends in Dusseldorf who when they knew my interest in this Railway (often seen in Magazines like Meccano) too me for a trip on the whole line. They once had a Baby Elephant on board to show how strong it was but it panicked, charged up and down the Carriage before smashing through a door and leaping to the ground below. Worth a visit at any time and also visit the 'Dumb Waiter' (if its still there) in the local Council Office.

    Wow, what a fabulous idea, obtrusive yes but still a great idea. Such a shame we don't embrace these sorts of ideas in the UK, but then it would take a lifetime to get anything through planning wouldn't it. Keep up the great work. I am a fairly new subscriber and find your videos so interesting.
    Looking forward to more HS2 content, I live in Ashford, we had all sorts of worries, complaints, blight etc when they built HS1, but I have to admit it is the best thing to happen in my opinion to Ashford and this part of Kent in decades, a trip to London is just 38 minutes.

      Absolutely! Proof is in the pudding with these projects. The NIMBY’s seem to not like pudding…!

    Nice shots of the schwebebahn. I like the far shots along the long straight roads.

    This is definitely on my list of things to see next time I make it over to Europe! Congrats on having HS2 reach out, very much looking forward to what you release in the future!

    Congratulations on making it to 4K - and thank you for taking us to the Schwebebahn - I've very much enjoyed looking at it, and will have to make good on my internal promise to visit it eventually.

      It's a good afternoon out, the motion of the Schwebebahn is unlike anything you get on a ground based mass transit.
      The view of the structural engineering over the road at the top of the hill is quite something, unusual and unique.

    Edit; ah, you did mention that and congrats on getting to 4 thousand and I would love to see some more on HS2.

    would this have been a good option for the solihull interchange people mover?

    • @martinalooksatthings
      @martinalooksatthings  Год назад

      It would be an option; taller and narrower than what's currently planned. The 'narrower' part is less of an advantage when you're not running along urban streets and a river, though. Evacuation would still be a problem by modern standards, too. People would kick off at the idea of it breaking down above the M42, even though the Schwebebahn crosses an autobahn.

    Is there a maglev suspended train in operation somewhere in Europe? I was in Cologne/Wuppertal as a boy 50 years ago, with school choir trip, and always remember the Wuppertal train. Have been telling my grand children that it was a levitating suspended train. How wrong I was! 😅

    • @martinalooksatthings
      @martinalooksatthings  Год назад +1

      I haven't heard of a suspended maglev, but there have been a few experimental maglevs in Europe including in Birmingham, which is vaguely pencilled in on my list of possible future videos

    Don't see why it shouldn't be entertained in the UK......I've used it many times and found it excellent.

    A wonderful piece of engineering, especially for its time. It is a blight visually though.
    They should "do a London Bridge" on it and give some nice colour. Silver and white would be nice IMHO.
