Great video. The music was fantastic!
Glad you liked it! Are you a spinner?
I have cats. My husband and I took turns putting my Kromski Symphony together while the other one ran “cat interference.” After one of them took off with the drive belt anyway. Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Cats!
Paradise fiber store is really a paradise 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩good we don’t have it in Mexico, my wallet would suffer 😅😂😂😂, congrats on your new wheel, Ím waiting for mine to arrive ❤❤❤
A new wheel! How exciting? What did you get?
Great video and such a beautiful wheel. I just can't get over that for the cost of crafters' items that they don't come assembled. The Ashford Kiwi is $500 and we still half to put it together? It should be half that price for cut-out parts in a box. I'm not down on the product - it's wonderful. But most things we buy in the world come assembled. I don't get why crafters' items aren't and are still so expensive.
Thanks! Yeah, it can be hard to pay so much for something. I like to think of my wheels as pieces of furniture. Just like buying a shelf from Ikea, you get the box and put it together😋. I discovered when putting this wheel together that it improved my spinning because I had a better understanding of how the wheel works and how to fix it if somethings off. Ended up being helpful.

Just to give you an idea the minimum wage in NZ (where these are made) is currently $22.70 or US$14. I would like to think the staff on the manufacturing floor aren't all on minimum wage.
Then you have to add on the cost of the timber, all of the manufacturing costs and overheads and then the cost to freight the wheel overseas. Freight costs for assembled wheels would put the price point way too high for the end consumer - NZ is at the bottom of the world!. There are also other costs that Ashford have to cover that might not be required in the US such as compulsory contributions to employee superannuation and to ACC - our public liability system that covers workplace accidents. Fun fact, you can't sue for medical costs or loss of income due to injury in NZ because the government covers it all through the ACC levies that we all contribute to
These wheels start at NZ $950.
This is the cost of buying products made in a developed country with comprehensive workers rights and protections instead of a developing nation that takes unfair advantage of employees. You are of course, allowed to vote with your wallet
It frieghts from New Zealand - that puts a cost on the wheel. If it was made up and sent then the potential for damage would be greater and the cost would go up. You buy what you can afford right?
Being left handed I had the little kiwi in such a mess getting it together but all turned out in the end 3 years later and still spinning strong.
Yes, I bet that's a challenge! What is your favorite fiber to spin?
Did u use the super flyer at any point in the video or was it the normal flyer the wheel came with?
This is all done with the flyer it came with.
Hi, I have a kiwi 3 too. Have you ever had problems with changing the drive band to a slower ratio.
Louisa, isn't it so fun?!?! Such a cute wheel too. I don't have a lot of experience with ratios as this is my first wheel that has options. I assume you aren't meaning moving the drive band from one groove to another. Rather how the wheel responds to a change in ratio? What I have done is discovered that making an adjustment to the drive band means micro adjustments to the scotch tension. Sorry I'm not more help!
@@TextileIndie that’s fine, I think the drive band has been stretched to one ratio and doesn’t want to fit the smaller ones. I’m tempted to get another one for the smaller ratio. I want to learn to chain ply but I don’t on such a high speed.
Well, did you like it?
I love it! Thanks for asking.
Nice music, but no credits. Who performed it?
The is from a stock music company we used to use. It's called St. Patrick's Day Pack by Andy Slatter.
@@TextileIndie Thanks!
Hi! I just got my Kiwi 3 and it looks like we both got the natural finish! have you had any issues with cleaning it, or it getting super dirty with the finish?
So far it's clean. I found this post from SpinOff Magazine that explains how to clean and maintain a wheel. I found it helpful.

Did it come with oil
It did not. You can get a bottle of spinning wheel oil from Paradise Fibers or other fiber arts supplier.
You actually have had a Traditional wheel (not a Traveler).
