People are way too tough on Denny. He is the only guy that actually speaks his mind. He just said what we've all been thinking out loud. How the hell does anyone expect SMI to understand what we think if no one steps up and calls them out? This is honestly a pretty ridiculous take, Hamlin did the right thing publicly criticizing Marcus Smith because he is the guy who steers the ship and he CONSTANTLY steers the ship into an iceberg. Someone needs to call him and, no offense, Marcus Smith isn't going to listen to a bunch of random nobodies like you and me. Denny is a large enough public figure to ACTUALLY make changes in the industry, so I say he should do this more often, because he brings awreness to issues that none of us ever could.

@@elisamaria3628 Mark Martin would've won a championship if he'd been born 10 years earlier or 10 years later, the guy was going up against absolute titans of the sport and STILL managed to be a championship contender despite it.

People don’t mock Martin because of the championships, they are sad because they like and respect him. Hamlin gets mocked because they don’t respect him in nearly the same way, not necessarily as a driver, but as person.

To the credit of the people who bring that up though, even if we still used the Latford Winston Cup format to crown champions, he would still be without a championship.

It is rare I agree with Denny. I agree with him partially. But he want childish, Marcus is just as childish.
SMI isn't perfect but Marcus doesn't want for this to fail. He doesn't create issues that don't work on purpose. Having an issue about the repave by Denny should have started with a Phone Call to Marcus saying "Hey, what is going on with the potholes?"
Both of these guys went below the belt but Denny should not have started this process without hearing Marcus out.

This is not Denny Hamlin’s fault. If you’re a driver seeing pavement coming up and knowing it can cause a hazard and ruin a race you want to speak your mind and prevent that from happening. Smith personally attacked him.

It's real drama, I can tell. Do I have 100% evidence? No, just a gut feeling, I guess. I'm more on Denny's side on this one. Denny of all types of people has the right to criticize the terrible job done to a track, especially when that happens to it. Denny Hamlin is not only a veteran driver but he is a team owner too. If let's say this became a issue while the Cup Series is there this year and let's say Bubba Wallace catches one of these pot holes and wrecks the car? Wouldn't Hamlin not have the right to be upset he just lost money due to one of his cars being junked because of Marcus Smith's incompetence to hire better pavers?

If it isn't fixed by tomorrow they would have to cancel qualifying and the first race, and if it isn't done by Sunday both races are ruined. And the supports series with GTWC America aswell.

I think the majority of fans are more on Denny's side. Fan's frustration with NASCAR, SMI, and other higher ups far exceed their dislike for Denny. I'm not a Denny fan at all, but I do agree with him. Fans, drivers, and teams have been begging for things to change for years. Eventually the pot will boil over.
I believe this was just another glimpse into a bigger underlying problem that the sport is having that has been building up for the better part of 2 decades. Many bad decisions that have been doubled down on by NASCAR, track owners, teams, etc. Some were maybe necessary, some were tried and changed and changed again but still don't work, and some were just really dumb. Anyway these are just my opinions and no one really needs to agree or care what I say but that's my view on what has lead to the ongoing situation in this sport.
