This is an awesome rig! I recently finished my 5x8 cargo trailer and had a very similar philosophy about being able to pull it anywhere my ranger could go. Thanks for sharing this tour! I ended up installing matching wheels to my truck (which are the same bolt pattern as Jeeps and standard trailer axles) and it really compliments the look and I now have a spare that can work on the vehicle and/or the trailer.
I've been thinking of building out a cargo trailer that would allow me to haul a motorcycle. This is the best build I have seen.... if I didn't need to haul a bike, I would copy this design
Same with me! I need room for 2 motorcycles with drop down bunks for trips with my brother , insulated/heated for a deer hunting base camp with my son. Seems like building is the best way to go to get what you need and not pay for what you don’t.
Holy smokes! If I haven't commented on this rig before, please allow me to do so now. Like JoelTremblay, I am finishing up a 1.5-person 5 X 10, but one intended to allow interior passage from the forward bunk to the rear galley... an open floorplan, if you will. It will be nice for what I do which is southwestern high desert fall/winter/spring camping. YOUR BROTHER'S TRAILER, on the other hand! is everything I want mine to be! but, sadly, the galley can only be accessed by going outside. The desert can get quite windy which is when I'd reef my awning and stay in the trailer cabin. I won't have nearly the great many storage options your brother's trailer has. Wow... I have a mind to alter my plans! Hahaha... but I"m too far along. Color me envious! of your great 5 X 10 project. It is a real winner (and I have seen my share).
Nice unit. I’ve built two now . My current unit is a 6x12 v nose with extra interior height. Would like to do a 7x14 but may not get to it. I’d love to host a big cargo trailer gathering out here in Western Colorado somewhere next summer.
Wow, Larry! That's just awesome! And you sure can tell he's your brother, looks and sounds a lot like you. What a cool setup he has. No limits to where he can go. Just fantastic!
I love this set-up! May I ask how much you invested in your 12’ project altogether? Do you have any recommendations how I might find someone to build one for me?
Who in the world could thumbs down this rig or the video? This rig is not for me but I am amazed at all it offers in such a tiny space. So well thought out and very well equipped. The presentation was spot on too. Great job all the way around. What was the maker of that awesome awning?
Great video and very nice set up! Did you use a router or CNC machine to cut out the doors in the kitchen area? Is the fridge mounted on a slide out tray as well? I have a 6x10 trailer and I planning to convert and I really like your rear kitchen design.
not bad set up, impressivd on utilization of space, only thing I could see might need a little attention is that the kitchen on the big swinging door in back is partly exposed to the elements. if you got that part of the back kitchen covered up to protect from weather would defentally be a pretty good all around set up. personally I would have done the double barn door and that would have solved it , buy just haveing an awning over the back extending beyond the doors, just extend and loop that existing awning on around and over the back end...then you could be cooking in any weather condition , for smoke controll wile cooking just ad a fan in the kitchen area powered off solar to blow off the smoke...thanks for shareing. really well built and thought out.
We the next project is another Chevy Van, then I plan to remodel my Land Cruiser. I am in conversations with someone regarding a cargo trailer so that may happen later this summer.
Wonderful conversion! Did you order the trailer with insulation or did you do that yourself? Please describe the insulation configuration. Also, what did you use for the interior walls? Is it white vinyl? Thank you for sharing this!
Really enjoyed your presentation. How deep is your kitchen galley? I'm in the process of designing that style and thought 18 to 20 inches deep would work.
The trailer is 5 feet wide and 10 feet long. It was ordered with 3,500 pound axles. Without water and food we are estimating the trailer to be about 2,500 pounds. When it is fully loaded with water, food, clothes, and other items it rides down rough roads very well. So I don't think we are overweight. If a trailer is too light (compared to the axle rating) it will bounce a lot. His does not do that.
I'm very impressed with your camping trailer. Nice job with everything that went into it. What is the brand name of the cargo trailer you used for this build?
Nice trailer sir Can you tell me about that big window in front of the trailer What size is it and where can find one like that I’m building my off road trailer too I really like the big window in front thanks
The window in the front is one of the things he might not do the second time around. They are difficult to keep water tight. I worry about rock damage. We have talked about making a cover and hinging it upwards as an awning over the window. The trailer fabricator supplied the window so I am unsure of the brand. If I find any more information I will post it.
I'm concerned that galvanic corrosion is going to eat the steel where the aluminum is bolted to it. Is there some sort of rubbery insulation or brass between the aluminum and the steel bolts?
it has a rubber torsion axle, not sure if it is a Dexter axle. Time will tell if it holds up to true off-road. The plan is to swap it for a Timbren axle-less system when and if it wears out. It was an economical solution available from the factory
@@ramblinmanconversions6489 I have been looking at suspensions. The Timbren's seem like a decent option, but they don't have as much travel as I was hoping for. The Australian swingarm suspensions have awesome performance, but are probably a lot more expensive than Timbren.
i also have a tj jeep but i have a hard time thinking how are u pulling the with all the weight u added plus the trailer ? they are only made to pull 2000lbs
Nice compromise between a teardrop (squaredrop ?) trailer and a larger cargo trailer conversion. I'm guessing a 4WD Toyota Tacoma could tow this, too ? (what's the total weight and the tongue weight ?)
It's all in the geometry. A bracket that sticks out an inch or three from the door will compress the strut the most when the door is half open, so either fully open or fully closed will allow the strut to extend.
very nice and clever trailer! is it now a 5x10' trailer? you never confirmed that. Also I keep hearing 19" ground clearance, I assume its 9", correct? And very important, whats the weight on it? thank you
The box is 5' x 10" and the ground clearance is 19". We did not weight the trailer so I do not have an accurate number. The weight has not been an issue but a strong headwind is.
Last year of the best Jeeps!
There is NO WAY you two are brothers! :) Nice to meet ya, *A.
This is great! It's like a teardrop on steroids. Nice build out!

I’ve been hearing about this trailer for a while. So cool to finally see it. I totally see your touch in the build.
Yes, the massive fridge and kitchen are great, but that shower will spoil you. Oh you have a shower now yourself!
Very nice set up! I like your storage cabinets and layout.

I think the cargo trailer conversion are a very economical way to go.
Good job on the build. Glad RUclips recommended this video.
Thank you for watching. I should have another van finished in the next two weeks.
I watch my own trailer and it makes me want to go camping !

Thanks 👍
Nice! Well thought out. Love the gas strut open/close idea.
I note that you still have to cook in the rain.
not really, I just bring the door in under the awning, its tight but with the walls on especially its still dry
Your trailer is the best I have seen so far!
Nice build! You fit a lot into a small space!
This is a beautiful build
Very nice build great kitchen space. A house on wheels!! One of the best carpentry jobs done on RUclips RV’s.
Thanks, I have a van I am finishing now that I feel is my best yet. I will have a video up within two weeks.
Turned out AWESOME!!
GEAUX TIGERS! Nice rig.
AMAZING !!! Good job on everything !
Great video! Awesome off road cargo conversion! Look at that campsite...beautiful!
There is more than one way to hit the road and enjoy nature, vans / cargo trailers / suv's what ever it takes!
I love this set-up! May I ask how much you invested in your 12’ project altogether?

Excellent kitchen ideas, well done, and a decent Bed is a must, great work and ideas
Wait until you see the kitchen in the next van. Should be finished in two week.
Awesome build. Love the queen bed
One area not to skimp on, the bed!
Love love this camper. WOW!
Really nice build! Perfect for getting off the beatin' path. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it!
Great video-great build...may have to watch this again and again!
If you watch one of my other videos "Overland trip to Gila National Forest" you can see the trailer in more detail. Thanks for watching.
Awesome love the kitchen set up.
great camper ,love that kitchen set up!
Yes, it has really worked out well
Sweet kitchen
Thank you, the added space made it easier than my last build

The awning is by a company called 23Zero
Wow, another beautiful creation.
Thank you so much 😊
One tough trailer.

I cook in any weather, the door moves under the awning easy
Fantastic job, trailer is perfect enjoy!
thank you, it was a challenge to include so many features in that small a trailer
Awesome little camper!
It's amazing where you can take it.
Great Build! thanks for posting!!! what is the height of your 5x10?
Very very nice. I love everything about it.
thanks for watching, did you have a favorite feature?
The kitchen. Very well designed.
The kitchen has received a lot of attention. I really think it is the most used space. It is basically the "center" of all activity.
✨✨✨ More cargo trailers, please ✨✨✨

Love it! Goals for MY Jeep!
I can help, reach out if you need any questions answered.
Like# 2,2?? - how is the balance front to back from the axle? Seems like the aft weight might be more than the front?
Is the Jeep a V8? I’m pulling a 6x12 with my Toyota 4Runner. I worry it is too heavy for the SUV? What do you guys think about it?
Really enjoyed your presentation. How deep is your kitchen galley? I'm in the process of designing that style and thought 18 to 20 inches deep would work.
its more like 36", because of the fridge, but 24" would be more than enough
Awesome build! What size cargo trailer and were any upgrades done to the suspension?
The trailer is 5 feet wide and 10 feet long. It was ordered with 3,500 pound axles. Without water and food we are estimating the trailer to be about 2,500 pounds. How did you get a queen mattress in a 5 foot wide trailer? Width of walls with insulation leaves only 56inches and queen is60?

What size is your trailer?
What kind of oven is that sitting on the stove? Cool looking rig!
its a winnerwell folding oven out of Australia;
It cooked great biscuits!
Nice build in a smaller trailer. Where did you get your awning? R
23Zero Awning
Was this video done in New Mexico? If so, what part?
Awesome build, planning on building my own. How much was the trailer ?
They run $3,500 - $4,500 it will be highly location dependent
did you do any modifications to the suspension to give it the off road capabilities? what did you have to do to accomodate those tires?
thank you
The trailer came with a "lift" from the manufacturer.
Great video! What size trailer is this?
5'-10' 6"
@@alanhoward9583 thank you!
I'm concerned that galvanic corrosion is going to eat the steel where the aluminum is bolted to it. Is there some sort of rubbery insulation or brass between the aluminum and the steel bolts?
When that happens, (if any of the fasteners work loose) he can just upsize the self tapping screw. Common practice with commercial metal roofs.
I think that was a great project. Curious, does the jeep spare tire/wheel fit the trailer? I didn't notice a spare dedicated to the trailer.
Yes, it has the same bolt pattern
yes it does, saves weight and space
beautiful
what kind of suspension does the trailer have?

Yeah, I think that Jeep may be a little over capacity when the trailer is full.
The Jeep LJ has a higher tow rating than the TJ, the weight has not been an issue, the windage can be.

He estimates that it is 2,500 lbs. The Jeep is short of horsepower so a Tacoma would pull it.
@@ramblinmanconversions6489 Definitely. Properly equipped, a 2021 model can tow 6,800 lbs.
If I had a trailer like this how much would it cost me to have you convert it like this?

4.10's, that put him at stock rpm's with 33" tires.
What are the trailer dimensions
the trailer is 5 foot wide by 10 foot in length. I would need to check the height. It was ordered to have plenty of headroom over the bed.
I’m also very interested in the trailer box height as I am looking to do something similar. Thanks
The box is roughly 5 foot tall as well (not from the ground).
must have recorded this with a old flip phone lol
