    To all the Mi fans who are commenting things like "900 nits is more than enough, it's good under 20K" etc etc, well, that's EXACTLY what I've said in the end - "The Redmi Note 10 Pro Max still probably has the brightest display under 20000 rupees" - So please patiently watch the full video!

    I feel this is kind of a misleading video not that the brands themselves are very honest.The peak brightness claimed is during playing a hdr video with auto brightness on in direct sunlight which Sundar didn't do.Further the nits scale is not a linear scale so 1000 nits is not exactly 75% of 1300 nits.Just something to think about!!!

    • @saiyannegi
      @saiyannegi 3 года назад +4

      You are absolutely right. Most android phones are designed to achieve peak brightness only at direct sunlight environment and user cannot maximise the brightness . Even Samsung does the same.This guy has habit of making such content.

    • @TechnologyJock
      @TechnologyJock  3 года назад +2

      @@saiyannegi we literally measured the brightness under direct sunlight at 6:48 - that's why the OnePlus 8 Pro was able to reach 1250+ nits (brand claims 1300 which is close) but Note 10 Pro Max reaches 900 (vs brand's claim of 1200) and the Realme 8 Pro reaches 830 (vs brand's claim of 1000)

      You will understand who is misleading you. Then it may change your perception of techjock

  • @trs5127
    @trs5127 3 года назад +2

    There are many many misconceptions regarding display brightness of phones. I know some pretty tech savvy people who think that 1200 nits is double the perceived brightness of 600 nits, even though it's a logarithmic function and so it's not as far as I understand. Also, you hit the nail on the head when you measured the brightness in harsh sunlight with autobrightness turned on. XDA developers have done various tests where phones do reach the maximum advertised brightness when white content is displayed and when viewed in harsh sunlight with autobrightness, or as many brands have, the "sunlight mode" turned on.
    The largest mislead here is that these phone cannot sustain their peak brightness level. After a while, in some cases only after 10-15 minutes, they dip down to a lower brightness, which is their peak sustainable brightness level, which is nowhere close to the highest they can reach. And then they stay there for quite some time. So when a brand says that a phone has 1200 nits of peak brightness, the highest sustainable brightness that it'll eventually dip to is only like 700 or something. This is why when Apple released the iPhone X, and Samsung the Note 9, the Note 9 had 1000 nits brightness when the iPhone only had 600; it's because Apple advertised it's peak sustainable brightness rather than the maximum it can reach. There are so many underappreciated technicalities to display tech that it's crazy how overlooked displays are and how "shady" brands can be when advertising about them.

    It isn't the phone brand that measures brightness. Things like this are done by the panel manufacturers itself. Just like how brands used Contrast Ratio in the past, they're using Peak Brightness now. And you can't compare panels made by different OEMs and say that the things should be proportionate in your test. Your tests are pointless, bringing in some profile pages isn't a systematic test.

    I don't know why the trend began in the first place. Typical brightness should be in boldface and peak brightness in the fine text. But no, companies like big numbers so they placed the peak brightness at the center stage and the typical brightness is hidden somewhere in the fine print.

    hi buddy, very informative video. thx very much. trust is fine, but proven claims of industry is always better. they want to get our best, the money/ spending in their products. So, PR should stand a lil bit in daily usage. you are genuine in your testings. well done.

    • @TechnologyJock
      @TechnologyJock  3 года назад

      Under direct sunlight, you don't need HDR content to achieve peak brightness. You can refer to GSMArena's review of the OnePlus Nord here - www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-nord-review/
      The display section says "OnePlus says the Nord’s display has a peak brightness of 1000 nits, though the display will only get this bright once High Brightness Mode automatically kicks in under intense ambient lighting."
