The Gibdos in TotK are one of the coolest and most creative reimaginings in the whole series! Making them into eusocial insects that only LOOK like desiccated corpses is a drastic change, yet they lose none of their inherent horror for it. Totally brilliant!
Still wish they were more menacing with their attacks. Was expecting some gnarly bites while being grappled by em instead of the little sissy slap they do
as someone who grew up never afraid of bugs but terrified of redeads and gibdos, i couldn't help but be disappointed with the downgrade. props for creativity though.
it's funny that the most cartoony version of LoZ, the redeads in that version felt the creepiest, especially just acting dead until you approach them with their empty eye sockets

It needs to be said the first clip doesn't properly show how dangerous gibdos were in Zelda nes. They may not have taken your shield, but they had SO much hp. You could whack and whack at them and they'd just chase you down. Once you upgrade your sword twice they're much less of a threat, but encountering retro gibdos without those upgrades is like walking into your first 6 darknut room
They are less anoying than keese. I can deal with redeads but keese are fast in OOT/MM. I prefer a room with 2 or 3 redead rather than keese. They are my primary source of hit in the Ultimate Trial mod

Wind Waker ReDeads made young me nope out and shut off my GameCube so quickly the first time I encountered them and it took me a fair bit to work up the courage to boot the game back up
Not sure why the original OoT redheads are not on here as they move and looked different. They would move very slowly without lifting their heads and didn’t really have any other animation other than slightly quiver in place. They seem scarier when they have only enough life to slowly pursue you, and they do it as if it’s an enormous burden to do anything other than sit moaning in the dark. Not to mention the dancing ones in majoras mask.
imo, them having an actual motif in totk (in the form of the bug colony thingie) made them a lot more interesting than just "uhhh so like uhh theyre zombie mummy thing"
I would have liked to have seen the creepy zombie things, but yeah the Gibdo in TOTK are still great. They're weird and freaky in a different way, they look more like parasites piloting corpses rather than generic zombies.
Personally I liked them most as like zombie creatures however I think Totk bug like take was cool. I think the way they introduced them in the sand storm and especially empty gerudo town was creepy and I liked it.
The queen gibdo has three pairs of wings. Fun fact, there is an extinct group of insects from the Carboniferous that had three pairs of wings called the Palaeodictyoptera. I wonder if it was an inspiration in the design?
I actually find them less scary than some other versions, the ocarina of time redeads were way more nightmare inducing for me, when I was a child I was so terrified of them I litterally turned off the 64.
I love the Gibdos in Totk, I know luke warm take but I like they they still look Mummy/Zombie-ish with their briwnish color scheme and all the weird neck things they have.

Gibdos in majoras mas have a very ill and obsessive way of speaking. I find rédeads more scary because they ressemble the monsters from Konami’s Silent Hill
@@Sir_Adam Dunno about that opinion at all. It makes them far more in sync with the actual plot. Plus, out in the middle of nowhere with your radar cut off and seeing their ghostly figures silhouetted again the thick haze of buffetting , the whole effect is amazing and very unique than just the boring "here's your basic re -Dead + scream that can never quite match the impact of WWs". Going totally different with a bug theme was a very smart choice.

I used to turn TV volume down every time I had to go through adult timeline Castle town. I was seriously afraid of OoT's ReDeads.

These "Mummy" like monsters may look scary on appearances, but they aren't difficult to deal with. Still, a very cool Undead enemy!

At least Redeads Gibdos aren't aggressive in Legend of Zelda NES 1986, Zelda Links Awakening, A Link To The Past, Oracle of Ages and Seasons!
If you set fire to Gibdos in at least one N64 game, they become ReDeads.

TP gibdos were an absolute menace when space was a problem, especially in that stretch with stalkins and quicksand right before the third poe.
