I have two sets of Clew Bindings. And the support of Clew is by far the best I ever experienced with any product. Späte parts delivered within 24-48 hours after the first mail with problems, new binding with a huge rebate after I broke my first one (prerider model after years of use) and just overall the best experience. This company really has me hooked for life.

I had the Burton Step Ons and they made my feet hurt. Also the eject lever is not well positioned. Now i have the Clew and its like a game-changer in bindings. Its much more better than the Step Ons. You are much more faster in the binding when coming from a lift and you have more power. Love them!
Heck ya! Glad to here it!!! I ran the burton step ons for 2 years and never really had any issues, but I have to say I’m liking these more. Definitely faster entry and I really really like how they ride! I’ve been using them out west the last 2 weeks and absolutely love them
I own the CLEW but still watch your videos because I get excited watching others enjoy them too. I still haven't been able to step in while getting off the lift though, that's impressive you can do it easily.
Heck ya!!! I finally saw someone out yesterday that also had them! We both were pumped haha. How many days have you used yours? You get the white or black? Find the easiest lift you can to try it off of. It was terrifying at first but once you do it a few times it’s not bad. Soon as I go to stand I go on and line my boot up and try and get my toes in the strap that way the second I fully leave the chair I just slam my heel down
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I got the white ones, I feel like they're probably more noticeable than the black ones when I'm walking around with the high back still strapped to my boot, but it doesn't bother me.
@@SaltAndVi nice! To be honest I think the white ones look sick! The black ones aren’t bad but I’m digging the white! Nothing wrong with that! Strut them! Show those bad boys off 🤣🙌🏻
Thank you for sharing your experience along with the disclosure at the start. Your review pushed me over the edge for a Clew purchase. I've been snowboarding for ~30 years now, looking forward to trying something new AND more convenient. Appreciate that promo code, it still works!
No problem! I’m glad I could help! And if you have any questions definitely let me know!😁🤙🏻 running then again all this season! They held up fantastic last season!
I have never had an issue getting out of them. I put my weight on the heel of the foot I want to remove, pull the release, and THEN remove my foot. It is a very similar mechanism for triggers in firearms. Stepping in took some getting used to, but if I got my toes in properly, they always clicked in. If I didn't get my toes in properly, all I had to do was hit an ollie and they seated.
Ya I think it was a combination of weight not being fully on my heels and trying to do both motion at the same time. It’s all good now🤙🏻 no issues whatsoever
I just pull hard on the release which helps to give the foot some extra motion to get out. Kinda rough on the mechanism, but helps a lot when you need to step out RIGHT NOW.
Hi in your experence what would be the best step in for a person with bavk issues? Ive had flows since the latec90s but had back injuries in lastc8 years and arching my back to flip the high back up isnt great. Ive been finding mysrlf using the strapsxto get into the flows and falling to my knees yo flip the high back to get out, which defeats the purpose of step ins. I did try a standard strap binding but didnt like it. I dont want to change boots eithet
I think the CLEW would be a solid choice. It has the highest release lever out of all of them so you don’t have to bend down quite as far every time. I’ve only tried the CLEW, burtons and have some friends with the flows.
I consider to buy them but what about the piece under your boot when you take your boot out, how much should i be careful with it. İf that part busts that it'a problem :) thank you in advance
Help! When i set these up at home i had no problems getting in and out, but 1st time out i really struggled getting in! I need more info on set uo issues, maybe my toe strap isnt set right but i gotta jump to get in, like the channels dont align well. Is my stance too wide? I want to love these but, im not sold. Fyi i used to have switch step ins and they were a breeze to get in and out of. A video of how to resolve these issues would be great!
Noooooo I’m sorry to hear that. That sucks! I know for me the first time I had to re adjust my toe and ankle straps on both because I thought they were good and first few laps I realized they were slightly off. Once I did that it fixed any issues I had. They were just barely messing up with my alignment. Did you move your stance width at all from your other bindings? I ran burton step ons for 2 years also and honestly after using these for 19 days this season I really think I like them more. Hopefully tweaking your setup a bit will help.
@@mbuccellato13 yep! The toe pad one is a big one too to get setup right. I know my burtons wouldn’t work right if it wasn’t setup. And it definitely makes a different if the toe straps on these are slightly off
No worries! So their preorder just closed yesterday. So now, unfortunately you will have to wait until October and their website will go live again. They were already sold out of their stock for this season.
Hey man, I was just wondering if you could help me out. I'm looking for some new bindings, and the step ins really intrigue me. I found the Clew's, and am really leaning towards those however I have heard that they seem to be quite heavy especially when riding. Should I go ahead and pre-order them, or maybe look somewhere else like the burton step on's? I'm really just looking for the best step on's overall, and so far the clew's seem the best. Any reccomendations?
Ya for sure! Honestly everybody that I’ve seen complain about the weight, are people who are dogging them without ever riding them. Riding them you can’t feel the weight at all. I’ve never noticed the little bit of extra weight. It feels just like any other binding. I’ve even switched back and forth with one of my buddies between runs and couldn’t notice a difference(except for the fact that the clew was a more responsive binding). I think they’re an excellent binding and can’t recommend them enough. The burton step ons are great also but I think I’m actually enjoying these more. I’ve even been using these in powder in Utah with no issues
Can't find this video. I saw a video where clew + boots were the same weight as step-on + boots. I'm not 100% sure, but step-on boots could be heavier. The cool part about clew is that the highback stays on your foot, so your board is really comfy to carry around also less weight when holding your board in hand.
@@caullla that’s actually a good point! I forgot about the additional weight of the clips and such on the boot. I love them. I’m going to be doing a follow up very soon about how they’ve performed out west
You set it when you’re strapping in. Then when you go to click back in you just scoop your toe up under it. I’m going to make a how to video to explain it very soon
Add two pounds to your gear for a binding that performs like a $200 mid level binding and is going to ruin your top sheet faster because it has zero padding between your board and bindings, is more than a few reasons not to get these. I don’t consider these even in the same category as the burton step on. It’s like going back in tech 10 years ago in every way except that you can step in quicker than a traditional strap binding. And i have some negatives on that side of things too. They even tell you to not walk in them. So you have to strap them on and off other than the lift lines. Regardless I’m glad you make these videos and like your honest feedback. If you come to Utah and want to hit PC let me know, I’d be happy to show you around. I used to be an instructor there and know it really well.
Compared to regular bindings they’re about a half pound heavier on my scale. I compared them to some unions but riding them and wearing them you can’t feel the difference. I do admit the top sheet wear is something I was initially concerned about but so far (7 days in so still early) I haven’t seen anything yet. They ride very similar to a burton step on but they are simpler to get in and out of they feel to me almost like a union force. I do admit 99% of the time I do unstrap if I’m walking further but I’ve walked to my car once or twice with them and they’ve never told me not to walk in then(I’ve messaged with CLEW quite a bit) only thing I wouldn’t want to do it wear them in the bathroom(for obvious reasons 🤢) But I do appreciate the feedback. I want to be full open an honest about everything I try and use. I do wish more people would give them a shot and just demo or get some laps in a pair. I really have enjoyed them and been super impressed so far. That would be sick! I want to get out to Park city for sure. This trip we are hitting snowbird, solitude and brighton
From what I have read the burton step on comes in at 1.8 and the clew are 2.8 Including all the hardware. Times that by two and it’s a sold two pounds heavier. That doesn’t seem like a lot but over a day or two riding and it’s going to fatigue you quicker. It’s the same with the overall materials. When you use basic plastics that don’t take out chatter and dampen the ride is going to fatigue you quicker. Another reason straps suck, you have to work harder to get the board to respond, causing fatigue. But I also have always hated straps. They never lock in the way I want. The top sheet wear won’t be an issue for a season in my opinion but long term it’s going to wear it out quicker for sure. Considering some of my boards cost more than 800 I’m not willing to even put this on my stuff. Getting in and out of step ons vs clue is a none issue in my opinion. It took me one day to figure out how to get into them while moving. I have no issue stepping in while getting off the lift or un doing them to skate across the flats and then just step back on. Just takes a little practice in my opinion. It’s always good to hear as many options and opinions. It’s helping move technology forward giving us better and better gear. You can’t ever hate that. Keep up the good work! This is the kind of video that pushed the industry to innovate. Until clew can show me a base plate and high back that uses better materials and design along with padding on the bottom I’m not willing to spend the 500 price tag. Way better bindings for that price point. The step in feature is just a gimmick unless the product is up to industry standards. The burton freestyle is a better binding at less than half the price for what you get out of the clue. You must of gotten the icon pass? If you didn’t or want to change it up a little I’d drop solitude and hit PC. I have discount passes and would be more than happy to share with you. If not have a great time! Brighton is my favorite of those 3. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. It’s appreciated and a fun topic.
@@travis4804 ahhh gotcha. I thought when you said 2lbs you were comparing the CLEW with a regular binding. Ya in terms of step ons you can’t beat them when it comes to weight 🤣 crazy how light they are. I do agree the step on is an amazing binding. I’ve spent my last 2 seasons on the Burtons and absolutely loved them. I’m running these this season just to see how they compare over the course of a season. I do agree some improvements could definitely be made but CLEW is in the early stages and I’m excited to see how they improve. Plus I think CLEW, Nidecker, all these brands coming out with their own Step in/On variations is great to help push this technology further and I’ll be curious to see how it affects everything, where as Burton has definitely been the dominating force in that market. So far I haven’t noticed a difference in leg fatigue but I’m excited to see how I notice it once I get to Utah and get some bigger/steeper/longer runs in. I definitely think in the next variation though we will get something along the bottom to give some dampening. Just curious what makes brighton your fav? Maaaaan that is tempting🤔I might have to talk to my buddy and see haha. We do have the Ikon. We are staying at a ski in/out in solitude and going to be there Saturday to Saturday. It would be sick to be able to check out PC as well🤔
Brighton has the best terrain of the three in my opinion, some sick out of bounds access to unreal cliff bands. Tree runs are usually spaced really well and clean inside. Lots of rollers to do butter tricks and such. Just good flow. Check out the lift across the parking lot (milly express) for sure. Sometimes the flat areas can be annoying. It has a park that is really good too. They are all amazing in their own ways. If you get the bird on a powder day it’s unreal but it’s steep and windy and tends to get tracked out and wind blown quick. I love the cliff bands and shoots it offers. It’s a technical lovers dream. Lots of rocks. If you are not a double black level it will chew you up and spit you out. Amazing views. Biggest of the three you are riding. Solitude has some cool stuff on the back. It’s pretty chill, it’s geared to family’s and skiers in my opinion. You can find some amazing turns for sure. It’s just never delivered a day where I was like wow. Park City is just so huge and I know places that have fresh snow even a week after a storm. I like the diversity it offers. It’s bigger than all three of the other resorts put together. Snow is usually not as good as the cottonwoods. Has 4 parks. But it is expensive and tends to be crowded. I know I can get in and out to get to work, that’s a huge reason I go there. Also best days of my life have been there. Utah skiing is always crowded these days though. Regardless of what you decide it will be difficult to experience all each place has to offer. I find new stuff at each all the time. Good luck! Be safe and have a great time.
So far I haven’t noticed it hindering my carving any. I’m just now working more in progressing into deeper carves but these bindings have done an excellent job of helping with that. The stuff bindings give excellent responsiveness for carving
It has a safety feature that prevents it from just “dropping off”. You have to fully pull the red lever up while keeping your weight down on your heel and then once the lever is fully pulled, lift your heel/foot up. If you pull it without all this, in the wrong order or try and do it all at once it won’t release. That way it can’t “accidentally” release
Hey, great vid mate! I would call myself an advanced beginner and I did not buy my own boots yet (always rented). I struggle with my wide feet and wanted to test the photon in wide and the salomon echo in wide. Would you recommend rather the clew or the step ons for an advanced beginner (I am more into freeriding than park and prefer a stiffer boot - 7/10) Thanks!!
That’s tough. Real tough. Haha. Honestly I like them both a lot and you can’t go wrong with either, but I have to say this season I think I’m enjoying the CLEW more. And I think at any skill level you’ll benefit. I have a buddy who has literally learned to snowboard riding the CLEWS and has had 0 issues and I’ve ridden mine every where this season. Currently working on a long term review video. The clew is a slightly stiffer binding and pairs well with a medium to stuff boot. I’ve taken it in deep powder in Utah, off drops, side hits, in the trees, down steeps in Wyoming. It has been a phenomenal binding. Don’t plan on switch to a different one anytime soon😁
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes Thanks for the quick response. I will probably test some boots before I decide but I am Leaning towards the Clews… I am excited for your long-term review of the CLEWS! Wish you great riding! Greetings from Germany!
@@Peter-xm4jd no problem! Definitely! You have to make sure you get the right boots for your feet! You’ll love the clews though! They have been amazing all season! Long term review should be out sometime in the next week or so hopefully 😁🤙🏻
They contacted me late last season and asked if I’d be interested in trying a pair based off my reviews and videos I did of the Step Ons. I’d heard a lot about them and a bunch of people had asked how the Burton Step ons compared so I said yea I’d gladly give them a shot and see how I liked them. As far as I know they are🤣 they haven’t said anything about getting them back.
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes second part should be left to the tester, it should be objectiv but their's always some subjectivity and they accept that. Just for the fact that they said "no neg revoee" had made me write them off. Thanks for the review :)
@@laokon ah gotcha! I hadn’t heard that but I do know sometimes with brands there is that stipulation where when they send you something to review you can only be “so honest” but they didn’t mention anything about it to me and I didn’t ask🤣 which I was glad that I could be fully honest. I’ve been super pumped on them every-time I’ve used them so far and they ride really really well. I’m stoked to test them in Utah and Wyoming and see how they really perform! There will definitely be updates to the CLEW review haha🤙🏻
My only two comments are that the ankle strap needs a locking mechanism as it comes loose after a few runs, and the underfoot is chattery as you mentioned. Otherwise no complains. Super, super easy.
I have to give mine a ratchet or 2 after about an hour but that’s been about it. But I always used to on my traditional bindings. Ya it’s chattery, not bad but definitely lively feeling Same. Absolutely love them
@@Kyleforthe3SIKE definitely! We did some short hikes to beat the like Monday and it was awesome to be able to come off a lift and hike up super easy and strap right back in! Thanks! I’m like a week and a half out from THE GOOD STUFF! Now hopefully just some good snow🙏🏻 I wish I was in Utah already! They are getting DUMPED on
KnowledgeDrop: Here's some Clew-Info noone is really talking about yet (probably because they dont get into the same situations I do). Hiking.... If you need to hike out of a zone at a resort the Clew is far and away superior for some very simple reasons: Youve got a plastic frame around your heel that DIGS into the snow , complicated sidehilling is EASY, its like having crampons, and then it also functions as a Riser for those Steep hike ins/outs. Im using my splitboard boots with them and it makes hiking complete easy-mode. I actually might make a voile plate setup for my split to see how it works (best of both worlds)
Mind blown🤯🤯🤯🤯. I did notice when I got stuck in deep powder and had to hike out ,when I left the highbacks on it wasn’t hard to walk in. But I haven’t done enough hiking in them to realize that. That’s wild😨
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes its amazeballs, and honestly @clew (IDK how to tag them) really need to get this feedback from the field, because I see opportunity for them here. If I have time to night to do my split mockup, Im gonna video the whole process.
As a Flow bindings guy this whole clew, Sp, step on, and the least talked about clickers, I love to see the easy entry bindings being more of a thing. I’m also a Utah local and am curious what resorts you plan on hitting while on your trip here?
How do you like the flows? I’ve seen a lot of people using them at our local resort. I agree I think the more variations and competition in the easy entry market, the better the technology is going to get which I’m stoked for. We are coming to Solitude, Brighton, and Snowbird🤙🏻
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I’m basically flows #1 fan. I been riding them since like 06-07 season. I’m on like my 7th pair. But I’m a quiver rider so I always have multiple set ups ready to go depending on the day. I would say their is a learning curve to getting them dialed but once you got it it’s a set it and forget it system. Could go on and on all day about these bindings. Sounds like you have an Ikon pass. Just a heads up you might already know this. Traffic is awful going up both Big and Little cottonwood canyons so get up there early. Solitude has pay for parking so keep that in mind when you get there. And we are getting pounded with snow right now. Brighton in the last week has got more snow than any resort in the 🌎 it’s been nuts the last few days.
@@dallascoxsmk1 sick haha. Are the Nidecker supermatics basically the same? They look completely identical. I know im so jealous! You been enjoying it? Haha. Im hoping it keeps it up while we are there. I feel like I booked my trip a week too late😭. We have a ski in/out in solitude so planning to hit Solitude and brighton a bunch and take one day to check out snowbird. I’ve watched so many videos from all the snow out there the last week😍😍😍
@@dallascoxsmk1I also ment to say that is one thing I love about these. I definitely plan on picking up the bases so I can just swap my highbacks between boards 🤙🏻
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes so no, The supermatics are completely different. I would like to demo some at some point but the supermatic’s are more of a traditional binding meets a reclining high back. Or so I’ve heard. But for sure they way they function and the parts they go into the binding are not like flows. That’s dope. Solitude is pretty cool. If it’s open you NEED to go check out Honeycomb canyon, the views are 🤯🤯fantasy ridge looks like it belongs in Alaska . I don’t know how much research who have done but there are some cool things to see. Like snowbird has a tunnel threw the mountain that takes you from Peruvian to Mineral basin. And Brighton is everything it’s cracked up to be. I feel you should have a great time either way. If you know any locals they can play your guide for you would enhance your experience for sure. Let’s hope you get some of this greatest snow on earth!!!
ive seen everyone have step ons, like Max, their comment made me want to get clew. I really always wanted to get clews and feel like they would be good. I also seen burton step ons get easy and be fun bu I just dont know which one to get. So im going for clew since it has that strap feeling still and that little pull bar
I’m currently working on a more long term review now that I’ve got more time in them, as well as using them out West in more extreme conditions. I am absolutely loving the CLEW and can’t recommend them enough. They have been awesome all season
Because I just pre-ordered the bindings, but i have an old board that has the 3D system, and i don’t understand if have to order the separately 3D disks or not
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes burton custom camber 23 162w and union strata large bindings. Boots not yet, maybe 12 or 13 im scared of to mutch toe and heel overhang
@@Angelo-dp1zt ah gotcha. Ya the waists widths on the clew vs a 162W would be vastly different haha. Maybe they’ll offer more sizes in the future. I was trying to pull the specs up for the CLEW board but having trouble finding them
indeed there is no information about the width of the board but I will just go back next year for the burton custom camber this time 170w and 270 mm wide and then the clew bindings
They do have a decent amount of padding. I honestly think they feel fine. I mention the chatter in the review and even that is honestly minimal. I was using them to go off 5-6 foot drops in Utah and never had an issue. I snowboarded 7 days straight and never had any foot pain or fatigue. I plan on making a follow up review on how they handled the big mountains very soon
I find it hard to believe the review is not buyest just because you got them from them In my opinion it’s not a good binding for advance riding It click me out twice when put a lot of energy into the toe edge I tried them for two days and it feel kind of sketchy compared to step on and nothing to compare with the supermatic which are ,again in my opinion, by far the best option for quick entry Like you said from the chair to the slope with no stops I feel like the shock observation is not fit for advanced level of snowboarding But beginners and intermediate might enjoy them
@@eyalinon1 that’s fair. I’ve reviewed a lot of products some I’ve gotten for free and many I’ve paid for myself but I’ve never let the fact that I’ve gotten things for free influence my reviews in one way or another. That’s just not me. If I don’t like a particular product I’m not going to recommend it or make anything promoting it. I work way too hard to afford the things I have so I wouldn’t want someone else to waste their money. I can for sure respect the fact that you at least tried them though vs many people just jump on the anti step in binding bandwagon, without ever actually riding them. Sorry to hear you came out of yours, after 2 full seasons (and now going into my 3rd on mine) I can say as long as I’ve ensured I’m fully clipped in I’ve never come out on any of the days or conditions I’ve ridden them in. I much prefer them over the Burton step ons, which I liked a lot as well but I just love the versatility the clew has over them. I can’t speak for the supermatics though where I’ve never ridden them. I’d love to at some point just to be able to compare all 3. When did you try the clew? I know last season they upgraded the foam padding in the bottom to a thicker/softer foam that dampens much better than the original version also? I never thought the original was bad, but the newer foam is a noticeable difference.
@@kyleburke3302 weird. What are you trying to get? I’ll shoot them a message really quick. Thanks for letting me know! I’ll give you an answer soon as I hear from them. They’re normally fairly quick. If not tonight I know I’ll have an answer by morning
Couple of cons, you get asked by everyone in-line what you’re wearing 😂. You also look kind of weird just wearing a highback haha. Still wouldn’t trade them for anything.
you have affiliate links to clew, and your riding does seem kinda like a beginner or intermediate... how many years do you ride? seems sus, when you dont compare it to a different binding! What do you say to the points that angry snowboarder makes?
I have affiliate links to all my gear, not just clew specifically. This video is also a year and a half old. As of this season I’ve been riding for 5 years. This newer video addresses all his points and covered everything in depth ruclips.net/video/CYotcvGWW5M/видео.htmlsi=b_eire9sL0sUqV1B
Nice! I always tried it on the step ons and could just never get it down. These are a little simpler to step in. I think clipping in is faster on CLEW and coming out can be faster but on variable terrain the Burtons are just a tad easier to get out of.
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes wow, I was surprised when you said you rode the Burton Step-Ons for 2 full seasons and didn't learn to step-in while riding. It is extremely easy to learn, took me some laps on a bunny hill to practice and get the feel, and after 2 days, it was automatic. Looking at your riding, I was definitely a lot worse than you when I first learned to step-on while moving. If you first place your foot right next to the binding at the same degree as your stance angle, you will get the angles right stepping in. When stepping in, as long as your boot is sliding down along the highback, everything will line up. You just need to have the toe cleats lined up and stomp down on your heel. If you don't get the 2nd highback click, you can do a hard heel carve or a small ollie. If one of the toe cleats don't click in immediately, as long as you are lined up right or the heel clicks in, you just lean laterally or medially with your foot and it will click in. If you messed up terribly, just place your foot next to the binding again to reset the angle correctly, and try again sliding the back of your boot along the highback. I think Midwest Shredder had a good explanation on how to do it. ruclips.net/video/S5Zvrrw7ssY/видео.html I really think you should learn how to step on the burtons while moving prior to giving it to your friend. It was really sad and shocking to hear that you weren't able to do it as watching your riding, you are definitely good enough rider to quickly master this. Just do some practice runs for it a few times on a flat bunny slope and you will master it within 30 minutes or so I think. Also, for the Burton Step-Ons, you can swap parts of the bindings to have the lever on the inside of the bindings which makes it much easier to reach and get in & out.
I like mine but I had trouble locking in tons of powder snow we have been getting here where I live I literally had to jump and then my left foot would latch on I would say I could strap in faster than what my family have like the burton step on
Where you been riding? So far I’ve had no issues getting in (or out now that I know the proper technique) but I’ve either been stepping in really hard if there’s snow in them or just wiping them out like a normal binding. I haven’t gotten them I. Powder yet. Hoping to next week 😁
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I've been riding here in Utah a place called beaver mountain and it's one side latches on smoothly but the other side won't which even putting pressure wont work so I jump so it locks in ive had no issue if the resort was more groomed snow it was just yesterday that I had a hard time latching in on one side of the boot
@@dekubravo1128 I had the same problem at Bear Mountain this weekend when we had a decent dump of snow. My first run going down I didn’t click in and didn’t realize it until my foot came out on toe side. Crashed pretty hard and my board swung around, I thought I tweaked my knee. What I did to fix it was brush the foot pad and stomp the snow off the bottom of my foot and didn’t have an issue after that. Still sketched out a little bit. I reached out to Clew and they said to record it, but it’s kind of hard to recreate it without risking blowing my knee out 🤷♂️. Still love them though.
I would like to try them at some point just to see how they compare, because I’ve used these and the Burton step on. But from what I have seen to me the supermatics just seem like they have the most issues and the easiest to hang up in deeper snow. They also weigh the most by a significant amount.
@@HardwareAddiction ah gotcha. Ya the strap system doesn’t look like it works how I thought it would. It just seems awkward. I know snowboard procamp had quite a few issues with them in deeper snow as well. To me it seems like once you had that strap ratchet down tight it would be hard to slid your foot in and out, Vs CLEW and burton you literally just step off and on, so super easy to line up the parts to get in place
Clew is way too greedy and I hate the early access model. I did some research and found out some European stores have stock and it goes for as little as 339-389 euros (price changes between sizes, less popular is cheaper). My local shop asks $480 and the early access price is $450 (with the promo code). Honestly, I can just try my luck and buy it at the resort, waive the tax too, so it's ~18% less, which is like $330, which is what these are actually worth IMO.
Are you sure those just aren’t left overs from the last season so that’s why the price varies. I like the early access model simply because here in the US only a few shops have them so online is your best bet and it at least knocks $50 off the full price. Plus CLEW is a much smaller operation than some of these other binding companies that have been around much longer, so they only can make so many units. I like the fact that on the first come first serve basis you allow some people to get them at a better price point 😁 more money saved for other snowboard gear 🤣
@@BoardsBikesAndHikesWhat stores carry them in the US? I have a hunch some European resorts will have 2024 stock. I don't see why they stock Clew otherwise.
I’ve watched a lot about the supermatics and they look awkward as crap to get in and out of. Honestly looks like more of a headache and more time consuming than straps. Plus they’re significantly heavier
I recently tried the supermatics and unfortunately it didn’t go well. One of mine broke on the third day. I was in a lot of powder at Wolf Creek, but I didn’t do anything forceful that I thought should’ve made it break. Luckily, I took my old flows with me. Maybe with more practice the supermatics would be easier to get on and off, but when I went back to my flows, I was getting in and out much faster.
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes Nope i just got new clew 1.0 bindings, they require phillips screwdriver to adjust the straps now. Also i have about 4 days on mine as well, as well as 2 of my friends. 2 of us have been having issues getting them to click in. it seems like they go in crooked and no amount of stomping can get them to seat. We then have to stop and try to re-seat them multiple times. Have you had this issue? That has been my only issue so far. Thanks for the tip on keeping the back straight when pulling lever, i think i noticed that same issue a few times as well.
@@kille10100 I can confirm this. Got a pair last weekend. A Philips Head is required for both toe and ankle straps, which I like. The screws had blue thread locker on them and they haven't moved since I tightened them.

I’ve been using them out west the last 2 weeks and absolutely love them
you can swap the StepOn Levers to the inside of the foot, I believe Midwest Shredder did a video on how to, that would eliminate your issue.
@@borntobomb i already sold them and have clew with nitro boots :)
Soon as I go to stand I go on and line my boot up and try and get my toes in the strap that way the second I fully leave the chair I just slam my heel down
I might have to make a tutorial video🤔
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I'd definitely watch it!
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes I got the white ones, I feel like they're probably more noticeable than the black ones when I'm walking around with the high back still strapped to my boot, but it doesn't bother me.

@@Noobochok long as you keep your weight on the heel it comes out fairly easy 😊

@@BoardsBikesAndHikes ya i dont think the straps are centred, and there is a toe pad adjustment i didnt know about!
@@mbuccellato13 yep! The toe pad one is a big one too to get setup right. I know my burtons wouldn’t work right if it wasn’t setup. And it definitely makes a different if the toe straps on these are slightly off
Once you get them adjusted perfect I promise they’re awesome. I love them
Sorry if you have answered this. How do you purchase the Clew? Their website doesn't have any info!
But how does it work for the toe strap??
How can you slide your boots inside if it s tight
toe strap is less useful actually in any binding :] if you not a hard carver just snug fit is enough i think :]
I do admit 99% of the time I do unstrap if I’m walking further but I’ve walked to my car once or twice with them and they’ve never told me not to walk in then(I’ve messaged with CLEW quite a bit) only thing I wouldn’t want to do it wear them in the bathroom(for obvious reasons 🤢)
But I do appreciate the feedback.
Just curious, how much would those discount tickets cost? We’ve been talking about trying to squeeze PC in haha
What’s it like skating in the binding when it’s on your foot
Thanks for the great video! However, I would like to ask if the heel cup can touch the snow when carving...
So far I haven’t noticed it hindering my carving any. I’m just now working more in progressing into deeper carves but these bindings have done an excellent job of helping with that. The stuff bindings give excellent responsiveness for carving
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes Thank you!
@@allezgavin no problem!!!
Do you think clew would be bad for park?
what if you pull the red lever on a chairlift
It has a safety feature that prevents it from just “dropping off”. You have to fully pull the red lever up while keeping your weight down on your heel and then once the lever is fully pulled, lift your heel/foot up. If you pull it without all this, in the wrong order or try and do it all at once it won’t release. That way it can’t “accidentally” release
Hey,
great vid mate!
I would call myself an advanced beginner and I did not buy my own boots yet (always rented). I struggle with my wide feet and wanted to test the photon in wide and the salomon echo in wide.
Would you recommend rather the clew or the step ons for an advanced beginner (I am more into freeriding than park and prefer a stiffer boot - 7/10)
Thanks!!

Here's some Clew-Info noone is really talking about yet (probably because they dont get into the same situations I do).

Wanna buy clew bindings and the clew board but the board have only 2 sizes, 144 and 155 cm 😔
What size do you typically ride? I can’t recommend the bindings enough. Been absolutely loving them even more since posting this
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes burton custom camber 23 162w and union strata large bindings.
@@Angelo-dp1zt nice!! I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the Burton Custom. And I’m absolutely loving the CLEW
How do you feel about the little to no shock absorption?
They do have a decent amount of padding. I honestly think they feel fine. I mention the chatter in the review and even that is honestly minimal. I was using them to go off 5-6 foot drops in Utah and never had an issue. I snowboarded 7 days straight and never had any foot pain or fatigue. I plan on making a follow up review on how they handled the big mountains very soon
Ordered mine today!
You’re going to love them! Riding them in Utah right now and they are siiiiick
I went though mine in a year. The durability is not there. They Weren't bad otherwise. I'm back to the Step On's.
I’m 20 days in so far with no issues. What happened to yours?
Clew makes small batches of hand made bindings. Worth the money! Not in China too.
🙌🏻handmade in Germany
I got a pair I love ‘em
Nice! How long have you had them? They are game changers for sure!!!
I find it hard to believe the review is not buyest just because you got them from them
In my opinion it’s not a good binding for advance riding
It click me out twice when put a lot of energy into the toe edge
I tried them for two days and it feel kind of sketchy compared to step on and nothing to compare with the supermatic which are ,again in my opinion, by far the best option for quick entry
Like you said from the chair to the slope with no stops
I feel like the shock observation is not fit for advanced level of snowboarding
But beginners and intermediate might enjoy them
@@eyalinon1 that’s fair.
I snowboard at perfect north slopes too!!
Heck ya!!!🙌🏻🤙🏻
Hey, not sure if maybe they haven't added your discount code to the site yet but it isnt working at the moment
alex10? It should. I’ve had quite a few use it. Or are you using it for the preorder?🤔
It should be 10% off anything although the preorder I’m not sure about. Let me know and I can message them and find out
No i was trying to use it for the ones currently available, although i am from canada i cant see that making a difference? Ill try again
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes ya i tried again with "alex10" and the box just keeps going red and says enter a valid discount code
🤣 this is true. Everyone that’s asked me in line you get the, “what are thoseeee?!?!” But they always get super stoked about them haha.
you have affiliate links to clew, and your riding does seem kinda like a beginner or intermediate... how many years do you ride?
seems sus, when you dont compare it to a different binding!
What do you say to the points that angry snowboarder makes?
I have affiliate links to all my gear, not just clew specifically. This video is also a year and a half old. As of this season I’ve been riding for 5 years.
This newer video addresses all his points and covered everything in depth
ruclips.net/video/CYotcvGWW5M/видео.htmlsi=b_eire9sL0sUqV1B
I also have compared it to other relevant bindings
ruclips.net/video/OEXJFLBMoOs/видео.htmlsi=jZwBOZfsztlx-Dhc
On steep lift unloading points I can step in to my step on just like you got off in the clews
I think Midwest Shredder had a good explanation on how to do it. ruclips.net/video/S5Zvrrw7ssY/видео.html
I really think you should learn how to step on the burtons while moving prior to giving it to your friend.
@@dekubravo1128 weird 🤔 I wonder why
Use the straps when in pow
I'll be at perfect north this weekend we should shred together if you're there
Heck ya!! I’m not sure if I’ll be going this weekend or not! I’m heading to Utah next weekend so I may go on and get packed up this weekend 🥲
着脱システムだけで無く、フックがつく事で、踵がバインとブーツを繋ぐので、足の動きをスノーボードに伝える事が容易で、よりダイレクトにぼーどをそうさできると感じます。

Definitely! The energy transfer on it is awesome
Supermatics are the crown jewel of step ins. No competition.
I would like to try them at some point just to see how they compare, because I’ve used these and the Burton step on. But from what I have seen to me the supermatics just seem like they have the most issues and the easiest to hang up in deeper snow. They also weigh the most by a significant amount.
Tried them. Felt really cumbersome and Malcolm Moore had issues with them.
@@HardwareAddiction the supermatics? Or clew?
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes The Supermatics
@@HardwareAddiction ah gotcha. Ya the strap system doesn’t look like it works how I thought it would. It just seems awkward. I know snowboard procamp had quite a few issues with them in deeper snow as well. To me it seems like once you had that strap ratchet down tight it would be hard to slid your foot in and out, Vs CLEW and burton you literally just step off and on, so super easy to line up the parts to get in place
Clew discount code alex10 doesn't work
Are you trying to use it on ones in stock or with the pre order?
Pre order
@@johannepiper6836 unfortunately it doesn’t stack with the preorder discount🥲 it only works on the in stock items
@@HardwareAddiction I’m not 100% but I remember last year on their site there were a select few in the US
these or the nideckers.... IDK HELP
Burton Step On
CLEW for sure
I'd rather get supermatics, a much better company with proven track record.
I’ve watched a lot about the supermatics and they look awkward as crap to get in and out of. Honestly looks like more of a headache and more time consuming than straps. Plus they’re significantly heavier
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes true
I recently tried the supermatics and unfortunately it didn’t go well. One of mine broke on the third day. I was in a lot of powder at Wolf Creek, but I didn’t do anything forceful that I thought should’ve made it break. Luckily, I took my old flows with me. Maybe with more practice the supermatics would be easier to get on and off, but when I went back to my flows, I was getting in and out much faster.
New clew bindings are not toolless
Only thing you need a tool for is the highback. The straps are completely Tooless to set up for your boots
