Language tips! The languages spoken here in Belgium are French, Dutch (also called Flemish, but it's Dutch), and German (but to a smaller degree). And you're in luck because the Dutch word for sorry is sorry! But you'll find that most people in the Dutch speaking (Northern) part of Belgium usually can speak English as well.
@gardyloo3093 the only "things" that I have learned to pronounce in Flemish are the names of the pro-cycling "wielrenners"...😂...love them all🇧🇪😉
All 3 languages spoken at once? 😉😳🤓🤔
@@f.sense888 Hey, I can't even do that, and I live here! lol
@@bethallen7384 It sure sounds that way sometimes! 😆
@@bethallen7384the Flemish people tend to speak all the languages pretty well, the French speakers don’t care for the other languages too much, not sure about the German side. I used to live in Antwerp and everyone I met there spoke English fluently 😊
Mom was 15 in Brussels when Hitler took over. Dad was RCAF and met her during the war. I was born in France (Metz), when Dad was stationed there after the war. Mom turned 98 last week! Belgium has two official languages btw. French and Flemish. I have a lot of cousins there!!! You will be in for a sticker shock for sure. My cousins can’t believe how inexpensive Canada is! Try to learn some French. They will always appreciate it if you try! Enjoy!!!
Yes! French!
There are 3 official languages in Belgium : Dutch, French and German.
Snow, made me smile a mile wide. You go girl. Your hair suits you that way too. Love how you always catch the birds Curt.
Yay! Thank you!
Yes, the hairdo is fantastic!
One shuffle option you missed is taking ferry to Tunisia. Its also 90 in 180 days, so you can have 6 weeks in Schengen, goto Tunisia for 6 weeks, back to italy for 6 weeks, balkens for 6 weeks, then to Germany - and break it up like that rather than need 90 out after 90 in. There are apps to put your dates in and keep a track on your time if you are in out - eg grabbing a few weeks in Bulgaria before grabbing a bit of time in Greece before heading to Turkey - remember its a rolling 90 in 180 rather than 90 in, 90 out.
Maybe catch you in the UK (North England/South Scotland) is where I mainly live in my camper.
What are the best apps?
@@CM-zl2jw not sure, not something I use, but I know my mum does to keep track on her travels.
I’d be headed to Morocco or Sicily and Tunisia but I’m allergic to cold. You guys are brave shipping from summer to winter, but you know that.
Snow and Curt, thank you for taking us along on your travels. I've enjoyed seeing each country from the comfort of my home. ❤❤❤.
So happy you are both in your van with the Kitties, there’s no place like home. I’m looking forward for this new journey, thank you for taking us along , just so beautiful. Take care stay safe, God Bless have fun❤❤
I totally appreciate the fact that you are doing a "slow" tour!!! I think that is the beauty of living in a van and checking everything out, slowly and thoroughly!!!!
I would imagine that just about anything you need for your van will be readily available in Europe.
Seeing Snow's joy about cooking in her own home again was so beautiful to see! Her joy is infectious. It brought a smile to my face AND heart!!!❤
Love watching you guys and the kitties! If you're headed south and haven't gone too far yet, you should let me know. We live a few minutes from the coast - just inside the Italian border coming in from France. We've been here for 10 years now. Like y'all we've done many miles in one of the 5 old campers we've had over the years. :) A little tidbit - we did the huge move over to Italy from the US with 4 dogs and a 13 year old daughter in tow! It was no easy feat but totally no regrets! We'd love to catch up for a coffee or vino, and just to say hello if you ever wander by this way. Cheers!!!
How fun to see you two on the zip line, making me laugh out loud! You are literally and figuratively getting your feet wet on a new continent. Thanks for taking me along!
You guys are epic world travelers!😮❤ The cats too.
Don't speed in the Netherlands. We got a speeding ticket via email going 2-3 miles per hour over the speed limit! 4 kmh over 90. There is no amount of buffer over the posted limit. Have Fun!
If you two can hang on to the edge of road that drops off a thousand feet, in S. America…this leg of your travels is going to be so much smoother. The Pompeii and Herculaneum ruins and so many others are ahead, amazing ruins to visit! The choices are infinite. You guys could stay there for years just perusing the ancient past.
Good to have you back in the van. The Europeans not only bike but also walk so much more than the America's. So good to have you back in.your hime. And you are right on, Europe is so much more expensive. Your first winter in Europe will be fun ... I also look forward to watching you. Be blessed and have a great first holiday season in Europe...
Happy Holidays to you back in the states!
Tenho 78 anos e minha filha 50 years olá.
Aguardo algumas palavras de vocês em português deste vasto e rico país, chamado BRASIL!!!
My name is Helena Divivi 💝
... não é olá, mas "old". 🤗
Boa sorte para vocês! Estarei acompanhando vocês em sua jornada pela Europa. Sentimos a falta de vocês aqui no Brasil! Abraços desde aqui de Osasco, São Paulo, Brazil!
Loctite Super Glue Glass dries transparent - even work with tinted, stained and crystal glass. It is water and dishwasher resistant and dries in seconds.
Thank you for giving me a big smile listening to your creativity pronouncing Schengen😃👍🏻
And yes, please! Always remember to pay attention to cyclists in Europe. They are everywhere and they expect you to see them and be careful. And they are road users like drivers are. It can be helpful to study some of the traffic signs. Like blue/ white/ red triangles or circles with bicycles in the middle. You should know them. They are very similar all over Europe.
Young people are more likely to speak English (like you saw with the children gathering around the van). Maybe you find someone in each town to teach you how to say „sorry I don’t speak…“. But most countries will be easier than Belgium in that regard.
I love following you and see how you adapt to our routines like grocery shopping, pumping gas or what else turns out to be different from what you are used to ❤
I always tell people to ask the kids, about 12+ older as they'll likely know core English words & may get a kick out of the interaction (Kitty Cat - loved seeing that part). We've done it in several countries when in a pickle (just be careful where you're at, so you're not being taken advantage of). One of my favorite interactions was on a day visit to Cyprus. I split off from my lunch group to walk the alley shops. One kid was manning a shop, we caught eyes as I looked at a magnet. He let me be until I had a question, I said Hello in Greek (I try to know basic words in each country I visit), he then shot straight up asking me where I'm from. Tells me that he is learning 3 languages and rarely gets to speak English let alone "American" ;-)
He was so polite & genuine, asking me questions, TV shows & ran in to grab his mom. Apparently they don't meet a lot of American's, let alone talk with one. Before I knew it I had to leave, I try to pay for the magnet, they won't accept. He heartedly shakes my hand & made sure I went the right direction, kept thanking me & saying good bye to me until I was out of sight. That was years ago now, and still warms my heart today.
Snow is all smiles, lol. I know you guys are so happy to be back in your home and I am looking forward to more videos.
Snow, you get major points for trying that swing!
Anyway, healthcare in Europe is much cheaper than it is in the USA.
Hi, loving your commentary on moving countries, fabulous, honest experience, the good the bad and the ugly. As far as any motor home repairs and maintenance wait until you are in Turkey, Czechoslovakia or other Countries with similar economies and you will receive the same quality (as long as you shop around and do due diligence) at a fraction of the price you pay in the more developed Countries. For the service just give them a good tip and mention their business of your channel, a win, win for both.
Enjoyed the video, and it’s great to see you getting on your feet in Europe.
We’ve just completed 4 months Schengen Shuffle from the UK and we used Romania and Bulgaria to claw back some time. You would absolutely love the Danube Delta in Romania for the bird life.
Sounds great!
Agree, the delta of the Danube is underwhelming in the "picturesque" category, compared to all the beautiful mountains and castles everywhere else, but man! Every winged creature that migrates seems to find its way to that delta!
That sums it up perfectly. Gotta love a winged creature!
When you get to UK, Scotland, Look up and visit the Overtoun House In Dumbarton outside of Glasgow. Our friends and missionaries Bob and Melissa Hill are the Directors and overseers. Amazing couple, amazing place! The tea room is awesome and the cinnamon rolls spectacular. Tell them hello from me!!
It was GREAT to hear Snow laughing. It was contagious like a baby’s laughter. 😁
Wow…energy levels are high, things are off to a good start despite the Schengen Shuffle rule. I loved the flying fox you tried, the laughter and happiness was palpable. On top of going back into your tiny home on wheels, what more could you want ❤❤
Wonderful!
Congratulations on getting re-established in your home and getting the pet passports. The rules sound complicated, I am glad you are knowledgable and I appreciate your sharing with us what you learn and experience with the rest of us.
It’ll probably be cheaper to get a new front windscreen when you’re in the Uk, especially if you go into Northern Ireland. You definitely won’t be paying €850!
Also Ireland isn’t in the Schengen area so it doesn’t affect your 90 days
Curt you should have changed your windshield in Brazil. It is even cheaper than in the US. Here in Chicago, you would pay for a brand-new windshield about $400 and in San Paulo (per my coworker) about US $320. All of us were impressed by the $800 plus dollars price tag in Belgium. Also, these windshields are made either in Brazil or in Austria.
Looking forward to your next video!!
Americans can stay in the UK for 6 months without a visa. The word Schengen is pronounced with a hard g-- shen/gen like gun. The ball game is Petanque if you wish to look it up online. The bicycle bags are panniers. If you managed to communicate in Brazil in even pidgin Portuguese--one of the most difficult languages to learn--then you will do fine in Europe. Most Europeans speak multiple languages. You are doing great! You've hit the ground running even if it doesn't feel that way!
Great video!! Years ago I was in Brugge. Had s lesson on thread weaving in an old church. Loved you two on the zip line!!
Hari OM
Dear ones - a tip for pronunciation of Shengen... the G is like that in ringing. You are going to be ringing the Shengen shuffle bell! Another word to the wise. Do not expect temperatures to necessarily be much warmer as you go south, neither necessarily any less wet. The last two winters in particular brought snow storms even down to Turkey and North Africa. Just warning you! Now - onward!!! YAM xx
FWIW, this is how I've heard it pronounced. SHENG + UHN
Guys, I got a big crack in my windshield and used super glue, it's liquid enough to seep into the crack. Then I put some packing tape over it to keep it in place until it cured. It doesn't look great, but the crack hasn't spread. Give it a shot until you can find a new windshield. Good luck! 🍀
I love how happy Snow got on that small zip line.❤❤❤ wonderful
The only thing I know of Belgium is it’s the home country of Agatha Christie ‘s detective Hercule Poirot. It is as beautiful as he describes
HQ of the EEC , that's one to know .
That zip line was fun... glad you tried it. Loved the laughs. Fun for sure.
Very interesting challenge to travel in and out of the Schengen Zone. Thank you for explaining. That is a new one to me. I’ve been to England, France, Czech Republic, Germany for different short trips so wasn’t aware of it as I didn’t need to know about it. I’m glad to go along with you as you explore the European countryside and north western coastal region of Africa. So glad the kitties got their passports. Thank you for sharing the overview plan. It makes perfect sense and I am looking forward to the journey! Bless you, be safe. Love, Jojo
How exciting,, I’m so excited for you both and am in great anticipation of your up coming European adventures 🙌🏾🙏
👍🤩💝I love Belgium. I loved being able to easily travel country to country over there without border check points (like driving state to state in the USA).
I hope you guys get to travel The Camino “by van” since you have the van & the cats. I took 30 days to walk The Camino from France through Spain to Muxia. There are some lovely towns on The Camino / The Way route that I think you guys will love. Thank you for sharing your journey. We’re all just walking each other home. 🙏💝
Curt may walk some of it one day.... And me and the kitties will drive it!
@@SnowAndCurt - 👍🤩🙏That’s fantastic. There’s a special Feast of St. James holiday which is both the Dia de Santiago and the Dia de Galica / that is on July 25th of each year. It’s quite spectacular and special in the Municipality of Santiago de Compostela. It includes many official celebrations the most important of which is an official mass which is attended by the general public (I’m so happy I got to attend), representatives of the Catholic Church, the Galician government and often by members of the Spanish Royal family. Known as the King’s Offering to the Apostle, this is the occasion when the gigantic incense burner, the Botafumeiro, is swung down the cathedral aisles in breathtaking fashion almost touching the vaulted ceilings (I’m so happy I got to see it). The handlers of the botafumeiro, known as tiraboleiros, guide its movements by ropes. It was quite amazing. My Pilgrimage just so happened to line up with me being in the Municipality of Santiago de Compostela by coincidence. I was more focused on getting my Compostela for having walked that far and finding a place to sleep for the night before I realized what I had stumbled on to / into. I’m not a very religious person but I felt truly blessed to be there to experience it, however it was a bit “off-putting” to see all of the pompousness of the Priests/Cardinals etc getting their ring kissed….but to each their own.
Santiago de Compostela is charming and enchanting with so much history and ild structures. There are also a lot of students there making it a very “lively” place to visit. I hope you guys get to see & experience it. The Pilgrimage & the Feast of Saint James. I can go on and on about it. Take care. Safe travels.🙏💝
In northern Belgium near Antwerp, you're almost in Holland and the language is mostly Flemish. When you turn south, you'll encounter Belgian French, which (IMO) is the purest, most lyrical version of French. Oh, and long ago my windshield took a ding about the size of a pea, and it was repaired with a sort of epoxy that was injected with almost a hypodermic. Easily affordable and lasted for decades. I hope they have something similar there.
Yes they do. The first company (Carglass) even mentions in their publicity that they will use this or a similar method for any ding up to the size of a large coin. Though if you want to replace the whole window, that is not going to be cheap anywhere and I suspect will even be more expensive at a vehicle brand dealer.
Feels normal again now that you're back in your home
Pétanque…very popular in France as well. We have our own custom sized pétanque balls. It’s very fun. The saddlebags are panniers. Sally in Northern California 😁
Hurry on down to the very south of Spain, warmest place in winter 😰🙋♀️😘
In my quick trip to Europe for my 70th, we did visit the Calanques National Park below Marseilles and it was amazing. Hope you get a chance to visit and maybe hike. I stayed in the car looking out at the Mediterranean while my son and his girlfriend did that :-).
For the better weather, then go in the winter months at least till half march to south of Spain and or Portugal. Winter in Europe, bad/ cold weather guarantee, unless you like cold/ rain and maybe snow
The Schengen Shuffle! Europe road travel is right up you guys alley. You just move slow to visit the countries. 2-4 years is a good way to look at it. Look forward to your Europe travels!
The side bags are called paniers I think. Looks like a great area! Excited to see the plan roll out and what's coming next! Cheers!
Thanks for the info!
Yep. Saddlebags will attach to the saddle, same as with horses.
Thank you for all of the WONDERFUL TIPS as you travel through Europe!
My pleasure!
I have been binge watching your videos in Europe on a rainy day here in NC. I really admire the way you work together! About this video - I didn’t know moats were so wide!
“The nature”. That’s a weird Curt saying. LOL. Wonder where he and Snow picked that up. In English, the correct phrase is “Out in nature”. There’s gotta be a story there.
I absolutely love the privilege of riding along with your amazing family 🤗
I hope you will be able to check out one of the fantastic Christmas markets in Germany. They are worth the effort.
So many countries to see, glad to hear you will be in Europe for the foreseeable future. ❤️
Can hardly wait to see where the road will take you to next.
Godspeed & Safe Travels, my friends ❤️🙏🍻
I hope you go to Austria, my birthplace. I haven't been back there since I was born, always wanted to. I'm almost 70 so I see it through others. Enjoy
Thanks for sharing. I believe they also speak Walloon, which is an ethnic group in Belgian. Once you leave France, you’ll discover that English is widely spoken. Bicycling is a way of life in much of Northern Europe, simply because it is soooo flat, and predates Climate change adjustments, so to speak. I was wondering if the black duck with the whitish beak were ‘moorhens.” Although a Brit, I have been fortunate in the past to live in Germany and France (8 yrs. each) so I’m really looking forward to your European tour.
I got a chip on my windshield 5 years ago and used nail polish … it has never spread.
It was so fun to watch Snow have so much fun I’m a zip line! It was actually fun to watch both of you, but she is such a gas
the surroundings of that campground looks much like my backyard, so I am camping everyday.🤣
Thanks for explaining things. Cheers!
Belguim and netherlands always have had a high cycling culture
Welcome to Europe, guys! FYI, Shengen is pronounced with a hard 'g' as in gum. Have fun & looking forward to seeing you in the UK
Bruges is a beautiful little city. Hope you get an opportunity to see it. I recommend having an Uber take you to the square. It really eliminated parking issues for us.
Hi Snow and Curt, you may already have it but google translate app can help, you talk into your phone and pick say Belgium and it would have similar words across the language. It then says it back to the person in the Belgium language. You’d only need a couple of words. Netherlands you’ll find easy, there words have a similarity to English. You were right on the coots, I love them and there sound they are so cute. But there will be lots of traveller on your channel who can help you better than me. It’s been many years since I was in that area. Enjoying your journey. Take care 🙏🙋♀️🩷
Love you guys so much, and have a lot of respect for how you travel. You do all your research, you’re always socially responsible and respectful to every culture and community, and you’re very smart, intuitive travelers, as well as poetic, informative, and lovers of wildlife and nature. I’m really looking forward to following along, this is definitely on my bucket list.
Thank you so much!
This info. comes from the guy on RUclips who hosts KLW World News. He has a map showing planes flying all over southern France. He seems to think it means France is signaling some kind of trouble. There is nothing about this in regular media. But since you were talking about going south to France, I thought I'd mention it. It could be nothing. Just be careful. Love your videos.
It's Sooooo good to see you guys back in your home on wheels!!! ... It's all so different there! Looking forward to the panoramas down the roads!! perseverance furthers ... 😺💜
All the best on your journey throughout Europe!!!
Hi, great to see you settling in, I enjoyed listening to your future plans for travel and I’m settling in to watch each one as it happens, thanks for taking us all along and letting us see the world through your eyes, I myself am great full and eager to watch things unfold!😊 travel safe always ❤
I am your first view today, I love your content. I have watched faithfully for 2 years I can’t wait for Saturday and Wednesday.
This is going to be fun! So excited!
You guys I am so excited to be in Europe! (with you). I just love the way you guys experience things and how full of wonder you are whenever you see something new. I love that outlook!
Glad to see you both more settled and relaxed now your back in your home.
Visited Slovenia last May and loved it! So glad it’s on your itinerary.👍
So exciting to see you reunited with your home on wheels and beginning this new phase of your travels. I really appreciate the amount of information you share of the "ins and outs" of each country you travel to and what is required ie. the Schengen Shuffle. Your videos are always informative without sacrificing your ability to capture the beauty and uniqueness of everywhere you visit. Thank you for sharing all aspects of your journey.
Good morning, glad you got the van back and they couldn't get all the way into it. Happy travels. Hugs n love
In Belgium and Other EU countries most trades people do not speak English as the course’s required for the trade usually do not include languages. this time of year it’s misty, rainy until ice and snow come. The Saddle bags are great for groceries.Fuel is very expensive, taxes are high so bikes and public transportation are big. Bikes can be very expensive my spouses city bike was 2700.00. Titanium spokes. Parking for the van may be difficult in city Centres.
Honestly, I love the way you can easily laugh at one another!! That’s exactly how my husband and I are. Laugh first, pick up later! 😂😂😂
Enjoying every minute
Love the video guys as always. Snow you are amazing. The zip line was great 😂😂The complete joy the two of you were sharing together was just heartwarming. Stay safe see you next time ❤
Thank you so much 😁
I'm so excited for this chapter of your grand adventure!
Good morning, sticker shocks. ..All the best to you both and safe travels.
O! Curt and Snow I am so excited for you all. Do happy to see Gmoney and Vanna doing so well and hopefully those Pet E Passports work and make life easier. The park was absolutely amazing and I notice how the colour and light express themselves differently. I can understand what the Impressionist artist were visually and visually experiencing. Beautiful. I cannot believe you did that Zip line! You got some hootsbah Snow. You're a great spirit. Hope you were not too sore and Curt just aced that zip line! Thanks for taking us along. Enjoy. See all of you next time ! ❤
I like all the bikes, I wish it were like that in the US. Seems to be working for them, they all seem to be in good shape there.
That swing 😅😅 glad your back in the Vane 👍 and some warm clothes for the kittis cats ❤
I just hate to see your videos end! So many wonderful places in Europe, we are all in for a treat! 💕
Loved the zip line ! 😂😂😂
So great to see you two having fun and enjoying Europe so far the rain has got to be getting tiresome though
Love hearing happiness about being "home sweet home." Also the plans for how you're covering Europe. Sounds wonderful, you two are up for it and I can watch from the comfort of my living room in California! It will be beautiful to see Europe during the Christmas season!
Love learning more about Belgium. You guys always have some new info to add.
Happy to hear that!
It's nice to see your big, bright smile again Snow. Looking forward to the adventure. Keep warm!
so exciting !!!!!!!!!!!! cant wait to see what is next
Safe travels today and always ❤
Tip, if I may. :) Take the trip in the opposite direction to enjoy a mild winter.
This is so exciting I feel like I’m on this trip with both of you and I really want to thank you so very much for putting a smile on my face every time you make a video 😊 Thanks for sharing ❤
Our pleasure!
The 1 room cabin I am building is almost done. Then back on the road in my van painting America, 1 stroke at a time.
Love this journey! So looking forward to the next four years. Absolutely fantastic!
Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing your adventures.
I have a feeling I’ll be learning my European geography while you’re doing the Schengen Shuffle.
That zip lining swing was hilarious! 😂Belgium is really beautiful.
Welcome to small countries with little room hence the zero lot line yards, narrow roads, and smaller vehicles. Did you notice that cars parked along the roadside often face in a variety of directions unlike in the USA where the law requires all cars parked roadside to face the same direction as the f!ow of traffic.
I can see clearly how excited you guys are about having you van back!!!!😂❤
So excited 😆
Cheers Snow and Curt . I m so excited to take this😅 advantage with you . Its cold here😊 in central Florida too 50s . Hugs
Sounds great!
Wow !! Thanks for this Schengen Info.
Can't wait to hear about the experience. Please give use details so we can know the WHO WHAT WHERE AND HOWS.
Thanks so much 🎉
Ahh a cedar waxwing!! They are amazing. I've always wanted to see one in my backyard but haven't yet. It's amazing that you are seeing them in Belgium. That squirrel was wild going around the tree like that. I wondered if you were heading south because it is going to be snowing very soon in many areas. 2-4 years? wow I cannot wait to see where you go. Again secretly waiting on Poland even if it's a year or two from now. ❤I cannot wait to see the confusion with Polish words. lol
Google Translate App had save my life in Japan. Hope this App can be your assistant.
