Pretty weird that my membrane has lasted for 9 years.
Mines lasted 3
Mine 5
WHAT!!!!!!
I never had any computer that outlast their membrane keyboards.
I bought mine in around 2010 and it still works! Just requires a proper cleaning sometimes (as any keyboard does). And it feels good too! Logitech
K350 that is.
I genuinely do not understand why you don't have at least 500k subscribers since you are always putting out useful quality content backed up with legitimate knowledge. Seriously, keep up the dope work.
nachowarrior1 thanks so much man. Seriously seeing this comment completely blows me away. When I started this channel I never in a million years thought anyone would watch anything I put out there let alone think it was any good. I really appreciate it!!!
nachowarrior1 OMG just realized that I thought he had millions
Brainbean Gaming you should be on your way to 100k man
Thanks! That would be incredible.
yea that weird he is doing a great job and his vids quality is great !!!!
i've had my membrane keyboard for 10 years...
I have a first gen Logitech G15 - Bought around Jan 2008... Every key still works great! Ill be getting a mechanical keyboard... When this puppy dies. If it ain't broke, don't fix it :P
JUST a gyy me 2... lasted until i sold the PC.. it has tiny "pot holes" in the arrow keys from all the gaming but still worked perfectly.. and this "key roll over" what nonsense.. my membrane keyboard also took multiple keys at the same time and differentiated between them.... mechanical keyboards are a fad... whatever this "cherry" company is is a big scam....150 dollars its truly retarded when they they lose a fps game to a guy with a 4 dollar keyboard.
exactly what I think. spending $100 for a keyboard is just fucking retarded
JUST a gyy impossible. If you are a heavy user like me, the longest membrane keyboard that lasted for me was 3 years
Stanley Not if you are serious about gaming.
Is it just me or the audio is low?
No it's not, my volume is on 100 and I can hardly hear anything.
I think it's fine, but I don't have any noise around me :)
Red David yes
The music in the background is awful >_

Brainbean Gaming >_
OP isnt wrong...
It reminds me of old minecraft videos lol
Radar Lund haha yeah alot of old minecraft roleplay channels use that type of music.
The only problem I have with the mechanical keyboards is that they're very expensive, and it would be dumb in my opinion to toss out a perfectly fine membrane keyboard for a not much better mechanical keyboard.
L00PdeL00P's Channel I got a Corsair k65 for$60 non rgb
A good mechanical keyboard really doesn't have to be expensive if you don't want it to be. I bought a Drevo gramr for £37 (around $40 I believe) and I prefer it to my k70 which I got for around £100. Good mechanical keyboards are getting much cheaper now
L00PdeL00P's Channel they are getting cheap now lol. just pick the right one
My mechanical keyboard is 39$
you can get a mechanical keyboard with rgb backlit for 50$~ lol
This video is awesome and full of information I needed to decide what type of keyboard to use for, specifically, gaming. Thanks much and I'll look for more vids! Great job!! ;)
When you’ve always used membrane keyboards you’re gonna bottom out anyway
Is the corsair k70 LUX RGB mx blue a good choise?
you earned a sub! i've had my cherry mx blue keyboard for a year and a half now, just switched to a razer blackwidow x.. purely because the lighting looks so much better than the corsair ones
Thanks for the sub. I have lots of great stuff coming up! :)
I have a Redragon keyboard for half year now! I absolutly love it.
Looks like you want to get all the basic stuff on your channel ^^
Nice Video, keep it up!
Has anyone actually seen membrane keyboard failing from use? i've had 3 mechs fails in past 5 years.
Ordered mechanical for the feel+sound, but I currently own a Logitech G15 bought in 2005.I used it nearly every day, from 2005 until 2012 probably averaging 8+ hours a day of heavy duty (gaming/office). The spacebar is a litte broken, but the rest is still functioning fine
I have 11yrs old Logitech membrane keyboard, I have abuse it as hell, spil beverages multiple times and it's still working.
Well, if you're the "as long as it works" type of person then mechanical keyboards are not for you. Neither are custom built PC's that cost upwards of $1000.
Orange Broom I have had like 6 membrane keyboards one lasting 10+ year without breaking. I only change them out since I got tired of how it looked. but I have yet to see one break for my self. ahh shit, I had one that broke. spilled coke on it. but that's not the keyboards fault but mine :P
And should it break you could just buy a new one? it's not like you can buy like 5 of them inside of the price of one mechanical keyboard.
Stop raging at games then
Good video. Also good haircut, keep it like that :)
I really want a mechanical keyboard with good RGB lighting and a wrist rest but can't find a good cheap one. If you have one please tell me
Great video!! 👍🏻
Does Logitech keycaps last long? Romer g
What about ergo keyboard for typists like myself?
can I switch button on mechanical keyboard?
I just bought a RedDragon Vara as my other keyboard died and I have never used a mechanical board before, only cheap $10 ones of either membrane or scissor type. I am bloody in love!
Honestly I never saw more than one broken membrane keyboard. I had a microsoft keyboard that was in my house for as long as I can remember, it might have been created before I was created. So it served from '98 or longer to 2016 I think. After some intense Rocket League gaming session on a keyboard with a jump on a spacebar, the little part that holds the metal bar attached to the the button cap, so that the spacebar presses down even if you tap it on the side, broke and honestly I could have just tried to find a new spacebar cap for it but I couldn't be arsed and got a new one. I am sure that it'd still work today if I had a new spacebar cap for it. I'd say 18 (or more) years for a keyboard is a good score. Ofc everything else is fine with it but you can imagine that the spacebar gets the most abuse especially when gaming.
Man, this was neat, accurate! you have a PROPER tone of voice and accent, so it doesn't bother to hear. Also there's GOOD DICTION when u speak so you're understandable, even for not native English speakers such as myself. I'm also pretty sure the volume is not too loud also on purpose, to be understood properly. I just subscribed and I sincerily hope u get to a million subscribers and 100 million likes cause THIS IS HOW U ACTUALLY MAKE AN EXPLANATORY VIDEO. Thank you for the good work!
Thanks so much for your very kind words.
i havent watch the video but i have a mechanical keyboard so is it good i switched to mechanical??"?
Great video,
I want to ask some if you don't mind.
My daily usage is type a code. Is it a worh enough to buy some mechanical keyboard?
I love my laptop keyboard. Will I get similiar travel distance to it should I buy some mechanical keyboard ?
Thanks
It is worth it.
man i noticed that your video quality is insanely high, like even the TOP pc tech channels pale in comparison to your video quality, honestly its fucking amazing. you're fucking amazing.
wow thank you so much, I really appreciate that :D I can't really put into words how much your comment motivates me to keep going.
right now I'm using a dell sk-8115 which is a good membrane keyboard but I'm thinking of switching to a chery mx/clone blue switch keyboard for my new gaming setup I'm building.
I've been watching your videos for quite a while, and I gotta ask, did you get lasik, or just go for contacts? Either way, it's a good look! Thanks for the videos, and I'll keep watching as long as you keep publishing them. Great stuff!
Thanks for being so supportive. I really really appreciate it! I either wear contacts or ditch the glasses for filming. My glasses are too reflective lol
Really helped thanks
I would totally switch, however I hate the click sounds. How much do the o-rings reduce the sounds? I currently own a redragon karura membrane keyboard as well as a Logitech g105 membrane keyboard.
the click is actually caused by the switch itself, so if you want non-clicky keys, then get switches that don't click. if you mean the sound of the key bottoming out, a.k.a. the clack, this is greatly reduced by o-rings
Love the vids
Got my first mechanical keyboard, a razer blackwidow ultimate stealth 2016 and it's amazing for games, but I need more exercise for typing. The keys are registered so fast like I never thought it was possible.IIt's a little louder than I wanted, especially the spacebar, it sounds different than the other keys. It's very different for typing than I used to have.
GraveNoX mechs take a little getting used to but once you're comfortable with it you'll never want to go back :)
membrane keyboards also have removable burns.. my 4 dollar membrane keyboard lasted forever.
I use membrane g13 keypad for gaming and a quickfire rapid cherry mx brown for typing (non backlit.)
awesome vid as usual m8 :D
Thanks m8 :)
this explains alot
Which is a good low budget or mid budget mechanical keyboard with rgb lighting?
depends really if you want per key that you can choose with software than maybe the K65 lux RGB or K68 also check out the Logitech G810.
Dude why did I not find this video sooner I'm already subscirbed and know you are super helpfull but at at least I found it because I really needed to know if there were any real reasons to get a mechanical keyboard... And I guess there are.
I have just bought a rk61 with kailh blues I have been using a logitech g213 for almost a year now
I've had my membrane keyboard for 5 years, type at 100 wpm
play alot of games
play a ton of osu
is VERY tactile
and it has quite the sound
and its still in godly shape
i like my membrane :3
You sure, cause membrane keyboards don't give tactile feedback
@@Jankyson Not all mechanical switches give tactile feedback and you don't need any feedback besides your fingers moving to type at any speed. I know this because I use a mushy membrane keyboard with noise-canceling earbuds.
1. yes, but not as tactile as zpc clikies. 2. That spacebar might be rattley 3. Mebrane hurts my writsts beacuse you have to bottom out 4.I doubled my wpm on mech
Are there such thing as a chiclet mechanical keyboard? I'm just used to the flat keys as I used to game a lot on a laptop. The regular keyboard keys are bulky and bumpy.
Matoro Zeliph
Same here but i got used to it and IMO it feels better than typing on flat laptop keys
yes. Low profile "xvx" keyboards exist
do you think the logitech g pro is a good keyboard? (I am towards it due to it being tenkeyless)
vFaded it depends it’s a great looking and performing keyboard but some people like me hate the feeling. I went into a store to try it out, and it felt like a membrane keyboard. But, for a lot of people, it is considered the best. It didn’t take me long to gravitate to the other tkl keyboards like the hyperx alloy and the Corsair k63. In the end it’s all up to your preferences.
@@julianrosati4980 I bought it and love the feel tbh. Thanks for the reply though!
are therfe any replacement keycaps for an membrane keyboards
Sadly, there aren't any.
is most of the mechanical keyboards have water and dust resistant? Newbie In Keyboards Here Thanks
Regular Player
Probably if the keys are elevated and the rgb lighting is all around the keys not just inside the switch
I'm good with my Logiteh K 120. Been 5 years :)
i thought you were on a million subs tbh 16,000???? is that it???? you deserve way more i bet you but hours of effort in everyday to keep you vidoes up to this standard!
Thanks, It does take a lot of time to make these videos. I'm glad you appreciate that :D
What was the rings called again? For reducing the noise level of the switches.
O-rings
O rings? Shame I wish they had them for the rest of the keys too
/s
At first i thought i'm going to use O-rings but in gateron brown switches it's not needed hopefully, these switches are perfect for me.
who hits space with the index finger
what is the keyboard at 1.20?
It's some cheap Chinese keyboard by the looks of it. You can find re-branded versions of that keyboard on Amazon.
I'm looking for a specific type of keyboard that is low-profile and presses very easily and is somewhat quiet. Sort of like a laptop keyboard, but i can't find any all i can find is mechanical. Anyone know what the keyboard i'm talking about is called??
Triads it's membrane.
Triads what about the k70 rapidfire mech keyboard?
It's called a scissor switch, in case you still don't know.
Apple keyboard?
'Why you should SWITCH'
HAHA GET IT CUZ switches and mechanical keyboards...
Yeah.. I'm not funny.
ruclips.net/video/NYjZnI9_kg8/видео.html
And no this is not clickbait it’s a JoJo reference
Do you know a keyboard that has cherry mx blue switches and is less than $30?
No.
You won't really find one at that price.
There may be a knockoff for such a low price.
ms thunderstorm or ms industrial pro but they have outemu blues
are you able to change the switches on the keyboard
No, they are soldered into the keyboard. there is one keyboard that has hot swapping of switches. amzn.to/2fY0pPX
ok
Hey y y I'm subscriber number 12 000!!!!!!
I'll never forget you
i had an membrane keyboard that felt somewhat better than some mechanical keyboards
Yea, I am but it is impossible because none sell where I live.
i can see why it is better for typing but not for gaming. why would you want to half press a button and having to fully release it before pressing it again ?
faster inputs, faster keypressing.
nice master sword in the back
WHY YUOU HIT SPACE WITH YOUR POINTER FINGER
Hi
"you won't be replacing it for a long fricken time"
...until the next model comes out and yours has become dirty, worn and boring.
Really....
A 2015 keyboard looks amazing and I want to buy it.
with membrane ytou keep it till it breakes. so mech is more CAPABLE but it wont stay on your desk because you want better.
What do you do when one key gives out on a membrane? You have to buy a new one because you can't repair the membrane sheet inside the keyboard. The font on your keycaps fades, what do you do? You buy a new keyboard because nobody sells membrane keycaps for your specific cheap model.
When a switch dies on a mechanical keyboard you buy a new switch for less than a dollar and replace it. The font will never fade out because mechanical keycaps are double-shot.
Did I also mention the aluminium plate inside or on top of most mechanical keyboards that prevent it from breaking and damaging? Yeah.
are we talking about keyboards or women amirite
Orange Broom I could buy like 5 membrane keyboards for the price of one mechanical. guess what holds out the longest :) and I had a membrane lasting over 10 years. and I played on it 10+ hours a day. Sure I could as well have gotten one that broke after 6 years but still.
Ignore it has faded. since you know where the bottoms are right? so what does it matter? if it matters to you then I would have something to do with you wanting a nice looking keyboard and that's fine. but not necessary for the function of the keyboard.
I like sw blue 😀
When someone says that on membrane keyboard you should press button all the way down to let it register press - I’m just laughing) My $15 logitech register press on a half of way down
Ive only ever played on a laptop and and an xbox. Never playex above 60 fps and never tryed a mechanical keyboard.
Im building a pc in the next few weeks and i can finally try 144 fps with a 144hz monitor and im getting a mech keyboard. Its gonna be weird
idk, I seem to go through a mech keyboard faster than a membrane. Its been almost 3 years, and ive been through 2 keyboards already. I just switched to an ornada chroma which I love the feel of.
PizzaKitty plzz tell me all about the ornada compare to mechanical, does it feel Easiyer?
@@Nova_Lapis132 Ornatas are mushy, barley tactile, and feel terrible. This dude is trolling or just cheaped out on a mechanical
Debunking several things after owning both.
My mechanical keyboard had been sent to repairs a ton of times, because they didn't include spare switches for me to re-sotter, not once have I sent any of my membranes to repair, not to forget how I have a membrane keyboard from Genius which still has the WIndows 95 logo on the Windows key. So purely relying on a spec sheet is not an ideal way to prove how a Mechanical could be a better option than a membrane. Also how can a switch with physical moving parts that rub against each other last longer than a rubber dome?
At 1:00 you state many HIGH-END mechanical keyboards have N-key rollover, and you specify that even lower end keyboards have a 10 key rollover. Membranes have a 6-10 key rollover as well, which is more than enough for most people, there are some however which have a 2-3 but they are of a very cheap caliber. Most people will find no good use out of the N-key rollover as it's only there to brag about rather than to actually be useful.
At 1:31 You talk about the variety of switches there are for you to choose and with which you can choose your favorite, which is nice until you find out that the default switch for most mainstream companies are Blue (Clicky), Red (Linear) and Brown (Tactile), rarely do you see any other switch be used and if so you pay a not very worthy premium. This argument can also be used against mechanical keyboards and in favor of membranes. I had the impression that a certain membrane I tried will suck because it had a similar shape to another one I tried, thinking the switches will feel stiff and mushy, but they were quite tactile and satisfying to use.
3:18 Key word is "almost always" Which means that there are mechanical keyboards made purely out of plastic, cheap plastic, but membrane keyboards are not "just" made out of plastic, because those that are will bend through when you type. Membrane keyboards of higher quality all have a metal plate inside or a metal backplate to enforce it so that the bending isn't severe and/or noticeable when typing and/or gaming
3:45 O-rings combat the sole purpose of getting a mechanical keyboard, because they add an extra mush
1. Hotswap 2. There are 19$ mechs with full keyrollover. 3. Switches have gotten really cheap, and no mebrane is NOT good beacuse infact they are quite too stiff. They hurt my wrists. 4. Any 100+ dollar kit is gonna be made out of aluminium these days 5. There are silent switches *cough hiamu heartbeat linears" which dont have mush but still are silent due to the stem abosorbing the sound.
cougar ultimus multi-color is way better for the price than the reddragon tho
Your audio is a little on the low side bro.
this music is in a game called astro party in phone or tab
It's from epidemic sound so it's probably in a lot of things
My scissor switch keyboard (logitech k800) is 8 years old and still works perfectly for gaming, the key travel, actuation and force isn't different from mechanical keyboards and it's so quiet I can type with someone sleeping in the same room... Mechanical keyboards are nice but really overpriced and full on marketing to make you think it's superior when it's just different.
not really true. How about that spacebar? How about the 22$ mechanicals on amazon?
apple magic keyboard works just fine for me
Watching this a few hours after I got my new mechanical keyboard. I play a lot of Robeats so I need to spam fast on a lot of the hard songs. It's easier to spam on mechanical for me
You should have much more subscribers
It feels like this video was made in the early 90s
nice hair dude
why do membrane keyboards exist? Were they normal untill somebody made a mechanical one, or is it the opposite?
Because they are cheap.
;(
I hate using one.
im using one right now and i wouldnt swap it for anything
Oh, it's the opposite.
The standard was mechanical all the time, now, they are very common because they are simply cheap.
Before everything related to computers was way more expensive.
Mechanical keyboards came before ruber dome membrane keyboards, membrane keyboards were created because people who worked in office jobs complained about mechanical keyboards, that they were fatiguing to use for prolonged hours of work and the loud sound was distracting and annoying, so when membrane keyboards came to be they dominated the office work environment
I love membrane keyboards exactly because they’re quiet, often that is valuable for me
Brenda princesa Lindaa, it feels utter shit.
At least a scissor switch, because they are not so bad.
But the rubber dome, are just shit.
There are now mechanical keyboards that are silent, if you type quick, you will anyways make noise because you are pressing a lot of keys, also, of course buckling spring keyboards(which are mechanical) were first.
The key difference: switches vs. buttons. The actuation of a membrane key actually completes a circuit via button; a mechanical key has much more room for actuation contact. through its switch design. I do like membranes sometimes, though...
When sometimes
Just because I should doesn't mean I will.
No. If ur a gamer u should get a mechanical keyboard
GradeAunderA's Son bullshit...i was top of the ranks in cs 1.0 to 1.6 to source with a 4 dollar no name membrane keyboard...a key press is a key press... and it had this gimmick you call "rollover" cause it would take multiple keys and differentiate between them at once.
just because i should be straight, doesnt mean i will..... Lesbian pride!
Witchy Girl well okay then
@vabuchoochoo, sailor neptune and sailor uranus are lovers
My membrane keyboard is still just fine and it's much older than RUclips itself, being heavily used for most of it's lifetime. It will outlive us all but it got so dirty I just want a new keyboard tbh.
Membrane keyboards have RGB variants too...
How about both?
Mecha Membrane? ??
cooler master's is the best mecha membrane, next would be razer ornata
I remember when I got my first mechanical keyboard it was a razer black widow v2 chroma green switchs her reaction was priceless Ill never forget it she told me I did nothing but type type type on my keyboard then I asked the age old question isn't that what keyboard were made for? I shit you not her face went extremely red and had no comeback to that
I got a k55 for Christmas and I like it more than mechanical keyboards... just personal preference though.
Totallynot Analtaccount
Same here, still ordered a switch tester to see if i should upgrade to mech
I had no idea this was a thing.
He got them in his sights
Been following you for a while now, I'm upgrading from a Logitech K360 (wireless membrame) to a Black Widow Chroma Tournament Edition Stealth. Can't wait to get it in the mail.
Awesome, I think you will like it. And thanks for watching :)
I honestly prefer chiclet keys
I'm triggered cause u have so few subs
For a gamer membrane keyboard is more than enough. I think mechanical keyboards are for book writers and authors or for those people who have to type all day long for their work. Buying mechanical for gaming i dont see any reason unless you are fond of it.
Im getting a razer blackwidow x yay :D
noice
i have the razer blackwidow x chroma
my penis is approximately 5 1/2 inches long and 1 inch in diameter
ornata is better
DaGuyWhoLikesToPartyWithDrunkRussians MEME the ornata is the worst keyboard from razer
nah, i would choose ornata cuz that keyboard are my style and my comfort. Perfect keyboard so shut that mouth who said the ornata is worst....
Cynosa or the new one is Worst, i promise :) Good day
DaGuyWhoLikesToPartyWithDrunkRussians MEME ok cuz I own the bw chroma
My keyboard is living proof that membranes are spillproof. I am an avid caffeine addict and coffee gets on that sucker daily.

mechanical keyboard not spill resistant?
Try Digital Alliance Meca Z
you can literally submerge the entire keyboard, and it will still work.
It is a pretty cheap Full SIze keyboard, only 60$
and also it has a Full RGB lighting.
and yeah they came with a cheap outemu blue switch (a Cherry MX Clone)
But the switch are "Replaceable" without the need of soldering and stuff.
just buy a bunch of transparent cherry switch (because the RGB lighting is on the pcb not the switch) and you are good to go :p
Sylvnix
Given that the price of 104 cherry mx switches is usually about $100 i can't see how that would be better than just buying a cherry mx keyboard
