Oh, how much I loved this game! Still one of my favorites. I remember playing it on a Savage 4 Pro 16MB VGA card paired with a Celeron 466 or maybe 533 (using a socket 370 to Slot 1 adapter card). That and 128MB of SDR 100MHz (maybe 133MHz) RAM and I was so happy with it. I was constantly upgrading at that time and was running 2 PCs. Soon after, I upgraded to a P3 (I think 866MHz) on an i815EP motherboard and I had a Voodoo 3 2000 AGP and a Rage 128PRO. Later in 2002 I upgraded to socket 478 and a Celeron 1.8 GHz or something like that, with DDR memory. I still have the Radeon 7200 SDR from that computer.
Ah! NOLF! The game that forced me to learn wasd and mouse movement in FPS games. And running on the same exact card that I had back then. A simpler time - when 30fps was acceptable and 3-4 minute+ load times were just an opportunity to get another drink.
Great game that, despite not having much impact, has devoted fans, among whom I count myself. Level design, atmosphere, gameplay, music, and its absurd humor go hand in hand with dialogues that are sometimes brilliant. It seems to struggle a bit on the Voodoo 3. Perhaps 800x600 would be the ideal resolution in this case. I remember that this was one of the first games I tried with a GeForce 2MX, and I played it at 1024x768. I don't recall the performance, but maybe it was slightly better in this case. Anyway, the game runs decently on the Voodoo 3 at 1024x768. Thanks for testing the performance of this game on a Voodoo!
The level design is really nice in NOLF. Strangely the Lithtech 2 engine used in NOLF is less advanced than the Quake 3 one but at the same time runs with a lower FPS, I guess it’s not very well optimized. In NOLF the Geforce 2 MX 128-bit is around 40-50% faster than a Voodoo 3 3500.

It runs ok with the Voodoo 3 and TNT2 in 1024x768 but the FPS is not very high. It’s a little bit annoying that the FPS drops by 50% whenever an item is picked up.
The Lithtech 2 engine, just like the first version, doesn’t run with high FPS on the Voodoo 3 and TNT2, I guess it’s not that well optimized since it looks worse and less advanced than Quake 3 but runs with a lower FPS.
UT99 was a fantastic multiplayer shooter, better than Quake 3 in my opinion. I still play it from time to time. Back in the year 2000 I even won the first place in a UT99 free for all contest in an internet cafe hehe.
Nolf was a really nice 2000 shooter, I liked the level design the most. I tested if Fraps slows down the FPS in many games but surprisingly it didn’t. Maybe with a slow Pentium 1 or K6 it does, I don’t know, unfortunately I don’t have such slow systems now to test it. With Pentium 3 and Athlon systems Fraps doesn’t slow down the FPS.
my friend gave me this and the 2nd game years ago, never played them, honestly forgot about them till now, might look around for them and play them if they haven't disc rotted.

It looks nice for a game from the year 2000 but in my opinion it doesn’t look better than the late-1997 Quake 2, the 1998 Unreal or Half Life and it certainly looks less impressive than the late-1999 Quake 3.
i had also some issues with this game very bad input lag and FPS random drop for no reason. I have to try again. Tried also faster computers with XP and same issues
The biggest problem with NOLF was the 50% FPS drop every time an item is picked up, which is really annoying. Also curiously NOLF runs with a lower FPS than Quake 3 even though the Lithtech 2 engine is less advanced, I guess it’s not well optimized.
You can run this game on modern systems too. I have it working on windows 10 machine fine with a widescreen patch i picked up online somewhere. Might of had to patch the game too. Cant remember, i installed it a while ago, but works for me.

O fost un shooter foarte reusit, mi-a placut in special level design-ul. Avea si cerinte de sistem destul de mari pt anul 2000.

30 fps were considered excellent back then. Loading times were ridiculous in some games like Sin 1998 and others :))

The framedrop when you pick a object is due a transparency effect. 1024x768 is not the best option for that level of detail in a V3.
