- Changing Conditions - Going with the Flow. Fly fishing New Zealand.
This clip takes place a few years back in the first month of the season where the temperatures were cool and the weather all over the place. We had it all - sun, rain and fresh snow on the foothills. It's Kresten Ovesen joining me for a few days away and we managed to find some superb fishing at times on this trip. My regular camera was left at home and the footage is taken with a Canon 5D and some Go Pro thrown in. I think it captures the essence of our trip and hope you enjoy it...
Mike is available for guided fly fishing based in the Nelson district www.latitudeguiding.co.nz

awesome. fantastic sprint across the river without going down at 23:49.
Cheers! He's a committed man for sure :-)
looks fantastic! what a fish😁👍✌🍀
Thanks!
Pls dont touch the fish with gloves, not even cotton gloves, a study in Norway last year clearly proved that bare hands is a LOT better for the fish than any known glove. When thats said, another great video with great fish:)
While i appreciate your concern, i've been fishing for well over 30 years and caught a lot of these fish numerous times with no signs of any issues... Add to that that bacteria direct from your hands, plus heat from direct skin contact... Plus i've seen plenty of fish dropped from anglers without gloves as they are harder to hold that way. I have a fish in mind that has been caught three times by my mate and clients that is as pristine and healthy as ever and a little heavier each time landed. Cheers for the watch and kind comments.
Much more important to keep them wet and in the water.
Really love your videos. Im new to the fly. 2 years. learn a lot by watchin you and your friends. its not as easy as you make it _look. .keep em coming.
Simply amazing! NZ just looks so nice. Good job with the film - keep em coming :) (y)
Thanks, it's bloody tough here but rewarding when you get it right
Sounds just like Iceland ;).
F$#k I hate fish like the one at 8:42! On ya brother a quality clip, some solid angling from Kresten.
Cheers Andrew! Yeah they are tricky, plus annoying when you get a chance and the hook doesn't stick!
Great video man. Hope we can come out to chase some of these beautiful fish in the next couple years.
Do you think the three fish on the second day had eaten all the bugs over the night and morning, they were so fat in comparison to the day one fish?
Well they certainly had full bellies
16:04 Looks like a "long walk between fish" type river, for an ant. Inspirational fish and vistas, and a nice outtake at the end haha
That is a beautiful stream. Small, clear, and smooth.
Awesome Mike, you set a very high bar. I suspect i'll be watching this quite few times. Cheers, Craig
Thanks mate, just happy people like them.
What a treasure to see that!
I wish you would get on a podcast. I would love to hear you discuss the ecology of where you fish, how you go about it, your experiences in general... You'd get better at it the more you would do it. And it would be fascinating. Large captive population in the Americas.
Thanks for the kind words! Not sure my voice droning on would be of that much interest but cheers anyway.
Thanks for sharing Mike. A privilege to watch. Lord knows what it must be like to actually be there in person!
Cheers and pretty damn cool!
Great clip Mike, top notch as usual!! Fishing at its absolute best, those last few fish were awesome!
Cheers buddy - some good fish in there for sure!
Just beautiful. Thanks Mike. Those are days to be remembered. Few and far between but treasured when they come about.
Cheers and wise words indeed...
Great stuff - loved it!
this would be my dream flyfishing adventure... i would sell my 1st and 2nd born to speen 3 weeks in NZ flyfishing.
Seems to be a common ideal... :-)
Quality adventures, as always. Thanks for sharing this perfect day!
Just happy you enjoyed it.
Just a question..I'm all for catch and release but do you clients keep one for the pan??
Namdor not trout that size there the breeding stock. The trout that are litterally pan size are far better eating
I can't find anyone that can actually "land" a fish like you can Mike! (And without a net.) I think that's called finesse.
Excellent! Awesome kiwi Brownies', best looking fish in the world, not bad scenery either.
Excellant thanks you excellant
brilliant! Good work. Big belly trout are gorgeous :)
Thanks and indeed they are.
Awesome video! You do any Spey fishing over there on the South Island?
Why catch and
Let it go again? Why? Is there size requirements? I love it.
Fantastic beutiful images... very nice. thanks
Cheers for watching!
boys youre amazing,i wish to go with you one day
Thanks for the kind words!
Tried to send an email to Manic Tackle...no luck.try calling tomorrow
Hi Mick, thanks for sharing, your style is evolving quite nicely, pity about the sound quality, but with all things in life, theirs always room for improvement, stick at it bro.
Hi mate - it's MIKE. This was shot with a Canon 5D with no external mic so sound sound quality was never going to be great. Just shot as an afterthought... My 'style' is what it is. I shoot and edit what i like and if others like it, then all the better. You sound like an expert - do you have anything you've shot as an example?
Hi Mike, a bad tradesman always blames his tools!, you obviously don't take constructive criticism very well, was just trying to help.
?! What on earth are you talking about? I used the only 'tools' i had with me and certainly not 'blaming' anything. I was serious when i asked if you were an expert as i always interested to hear from folks with more skills than me, but if you're not and have done nothing in this field yourself, then your comments hold no weight at all really. Even a little condescending.
What weight rod we used during the majority of the video?
5wt Scott Radian
Pero que lugar más hermoso el del minuto 7:18. Precioso paisaje
BELLÍSIMO...ESPECTACULAR...LO MEJOR DE LO MEJOR...!!!
Thanks for watching!
Speechless, envious! Thank you!
Cheers - thanks for watching
Wonderfull, a paradise!!!
Absolutely amazing!
Thanks mate.
beautiful place and fish!!
Cheers!
Awesome
you guys need to dump those ballerina tights...
Well... er, thanks for watching i guess. Not sure what you mean about 'ballerina tights' - we use leggings to protect from what is the harshest sun in the world and biting black flies. I would have thought quite smart dress sense, but i'll defer to your obviously superior knowledge on women's clothing, and ask if you can supply some more info on this delicate subject.
I think he means "dump" as in take 'em off Mike, he obviously likes seeing other men's hairy pins...
aaaahh - one of 'those' aye Andrew...
what weght fly rod are u using great video
Cheers - 5 & 6wts. 5wt is the Scott Radian. Not sure from memory what Kresten was using for his 6...
thanks alot great chanel
Great Video! NZ is my dream spot to fly fish some day.
Thanks for that
so beautiful scene
Thankyou

Yes - www.latitudeguiding.co.nz
Nice, great!
Cheers!
Completely disagree. Fishing is a total package including those utter bastards you can't catch. I take my hat off to a fish better than me. I suffer from sunburn a lot!! Are we not blessed to live in Godzone Thanx for the vid.
