    A low priced entry level B550 chipset motherboard with the frills stripped out and the core features all working well and even copes with the Ryzen 9 3900 PBO with no thermal throttling!
    For a basic system this ticks all the boxes and in some ways actually makes sense as you save on the motherboard and can put the extra money into things that will actually give tangible performance improvements, like more RAM or the next GPU or CPU in the stack.

    I just ordered 1 that will accompany a Ryzen 5 5500 about 5 minutes ago, I do have a tower cooler so hopefully the VRM's won't stress too hard.. This video gave me the insight I needed to make my mind up and overall what I paid for this against what else there is I think this is the best B550 relevant to price.. living in South Africa we pay a lot more for computer parts....also the 2 M.2 slots is a treat.

    This is s reminder to me that not all b550 mbs are created equal! But then is this classed as entry lvl b550? Assumed all had steel pcie, ran rgb and had plenty of headers. As you have stated many times hardware prices have risen. I am tempted to move from b450 to b550 as my cpu is r5 3600 & gpu is rx 6700xt then i can upgrade dters from A320 to match her R5 2600. The IO shield is a PIG to get in and I nearly shredded my fingers doing so. The second M.2 sits under the GPU when in place. I'm not sure I'll mount it there although I wanted to, I may need to put it externally - for my libraries it was pretty important in the file management scheme really, but getting in under the graphics card made it hard work. I think I'll try anyway.
    I did like the doors and under tray were the PSU goes there's plenty of space down there as the ribbons of cables take up some space down there, I bought a separate caddy for the ssd's 2.5 x 4 I placed that on the base of the upper part on velcro so if need be I take take them out with ease and replace quickly - I didn't need much - it was that or drill holes into my nice little caddy, nah. I still might place it underneath. It's robust wee board I'll say that. Wiring up has been a pain. DVD drive? NO! Why? I'm not a disco fan - but it's a workstation for me. I daisy-chained the fans and took 2 out and now only 4 fans. (2 front - 1 top -1 rear).

    Asus website shows compatible with 5000 G series but not 3200G or 3400G.
    I like the placement of the top M.2 as it will be cooled by a downdraft cooler like my G100M. But the G100M is RGB and this board has no RGB headers, so there's that.

    I have similar board on pre-build ROG Strix G10DK with 3400g and 3060. I bought it because it was priced like 3060 alone at that time. So I'm going to upgrade it. I installed additional SDD and 2x16Gb 3200mhz RAM. The next is CPU. I'm choosing between 5700x and 5900x. 5900x in ECO mode still seem to be significantly faster in multi-core than 5700x-5800x while having the same single core speed. I really would welcome that, as I work with video and big archives more and more lately. And now I wonder, if I upgrade CPU to 5900 in 65-88W ECO mode will it run ok?

    Actually ,this is a hybrid 8+4 phases VRM design disguised as 4+2: you could see 4+2 chokes, but behind each choke,you can clearly see 2 low side mosfets. So probably not as potent as a full fledged 8+4 design with 12 chokes, but not as weak as a true 4+2 design with 6 low side mosfets only.
    Btw, this was a 3900X processor ,not 3900. The 3900 is a 65W cpu, it would have been pretty normal for it to run perfectly on this board, even if it was a true 4+2 design .
    Either way ,I am pretty impressed with the results here, especially that you enabled PBO 😮 May be PBO is not that aggressive on this board, as your tool was still reporting 140W max. I saw around 200W with PBO on the 5950X on a high end board, which would have been hard for these VRMs I think. Asus probably put a hard 140W limit on this model .

    £72 for a budget B550 board, can't really argue with that, although I do wish we could get these used for around £50 now, it seems the market is reflecting the 7000 gen prices.
    I picked up it's older sibling, the B450M-K with a modern looking tempered glass case (Cyberpower branded), 3x UpHere aRGB fans and RF controller, and a 400W Coolermaster MWE power supply for £40 last week, pairing it with 16Gb DDR4 2400 (£30), Ryzen 1600X (£35), and GTX 1070 8Gb (£110). Just need a £30 SSD now, and that's a competent budget gaming system for £245 total cost (plus a little fuel), call it £255 with fuel and windows license factored in.
    I find used market pricing is very much in flux I find at the moment, generally prices have been going down until summer early Sept, but more lately stuff like RAM and Motherboards seem to be on the increase....stubbornly few decent B450 boards on the used market for £40-50, typically commanding £60-70 price tags at the moment in my area.

    I got this same exact MB using a ryzen 5060x cpu (Flash BIOS to compatible cpu version) and a MSI 3060 12gb gpu. I couldn't get it to post and boot to the BIOS. I used and I tried and 1080 gpu and it worked. Replaced the 3060. Nothing happened. I replaced the MB to a different one and the GPU works! Help me Please! 🙏 🙏 🙏

      @patricklebel1141 Год назад +3

      Disable uefi in bios when you have the 1080 in. Once done, install the 3060 and check if it works. If yes, yhen you have a vbios bug. Set the bios back to uefi and install Windows and drivers with the 1080 then put the 3060 in. It may boot directly to Windows screen bypassing the bios screen. That how I had to live with my msi motherboard and asus rx580 video card. I kept a gt710 in because using this card was the only way to access the bios. I put a 6800xt in and no more uefi bug. I came across this bug when setting the bios to uefi in order to install Windows 11. Using csm only did not cause this problem,but Windows 11 couldnt be installed as secure boot is not available when set to csm

      I have the b550m steel legeng and I don't like the fact that the m.2 slot is lower than the first pcie slot and that bring the video card closer to the cpu cooler. Si, if you are using your video card to render or compute for a long period of time, you may see an increase of cpu temp if you having working at the same time. Problem I dont see with the msi b550m pro-vdh that I largely prefer to the steel legeng
