Note vrm is actually 4+2 , but even with ryzen+vega I never saw the top right-hand side vrm components even get warm on the flir.
There are "double" components for the vcore, but not actually phase doubled. Still, Asus has done a good job balancing the "doubled" components so no excess heat production that I can tell.

another reason why i love this channel and Wendell, he does low-mid budget stuff too, while educating you, and not just high end-sell your kidney hardware testing and recommendation like most other hardware channels.
I once overclocked a Phenom II 1090T to 4.0GHz on an MSI NF980-G65. It's VRMs were so bad that it actually caught fire and smoked up the room with fresh burnt electronics smell. That CPU somehow survived and still works to this day.
For my last three builds I've used the same high quality external sound card through USB. No hiss from interference inside the case; repairable; never really becomes obsolete. I think this possibility should be taken into account, even for budget builds.
Which sound card do u use?
@@haniigg Sound BlasterX G6
As far as I can tell that's not a 6 + 2
Ikr? The thermal cam shows at least one group of vrm components not even doing much. Even with a 3400g it doesn't do much.
Collaboration in 3..2...1... :)
@@Level1Techs the top 4 inductors should all be SOC and Vcore should be a 4 phase.
It looks like a typical 4+2 with 2 high 2 low mosfets, but what do I know it's not like I you can see the part numbers.
you dont mess with buildzoid when it comes to vrm

Build a PC with this board, a 3600 and a 16 GB 3600 CL 18 kit, works like a charm. Really nice and compact board to build with and if you need WiFi you might as well get this over an older B450 board as the prices are almost the same.

That VRM temps using a downstream cooler looks like one more reason why I despise water cooling. A lot of tech channels do their VRM test using water cooling without any air going trough the VRMs, them declaring this or that board had bad VRM design.
A lot of people don't think about this at all. The stock cooler for both Intel and AMD are designed to blow air downward onto the VRMs but tech reviewers rarely talk about this.
Many "enthusiasts" seem to have never asked themselves "why do stock cpu coolers blow downwards onto the motherboard? = to cool the vrms and other components. What allways makes me laugh is they liquid cool the cpu but let the vrms fry blissfully unaware they require airflow. Best solution for better cooling is simply a bigger stock air cooler.
This is a double edged sword though.
With any high level of intensity, you're just dumping hot air on the board and VRMs.
Doing the minor investment of buying a decent tower cooler is practically always better, unless you're cramped on space, then you should experiment with turning the CPU coolers fan around to draw air up instead of blowing it down. Because this will often still provide some airflow over the VRMs, while exporting the hot air asap.
Brilliant breakdown, thanks for this
Did quite a bit of research. And felt deep in my gut that this is the best Mobo for my cougar mg 130 case and ryzen 5000 series :)))
I'm going to buy this board with 3600x, what do you think?
Anyone who is having memory docp instability with this motherboard (for some reason I was getting it with 3200MHz) please update to the latest bios.
Thanks man
Was this with 4 sticks? What Bios version worked to resolve the issue. I can run two sticks 32gb (2x16) 3200mhz but not four - the system fails to boot up no matter what I have adjusted in Bios.
I used this mobo for my build, works fine and no regrets at all

Did it work out of the box with that 5500G? I'm thinking about upgrading my i5 8400 to a R5 5500. Looking for a motherboard that doesn't require a bios update.
Does this mobo has less feature in armoury crate compared to tuf series mobo
i know this video was made 3 years ago but do you think this motherboard would handle a ryzen 7 5800x? i plan to pair it with a msi navida 3060 oc
I have this board with a ryzen 9 5900x overclocked with watercooling. I had to add a fan to the vrm's because there was no more airflow due to the wateblock but they will push 215 watts to the cpu no problem. Asus actually uses this board in their pre-built desktops with a 5700g and a 3060. Yeah you're good!
If you are scared of this VRM, i am using Asus B450M-K with a Ryzen 7 2700x with HyperX Predator 2x8GB 3200mhz, not a single problem (system is used 10h a day for the past 14 months, stable as rock)
You are using xmp profile for ram?
I just bought this board in 2024. It's a solid mb for around $100 on sale now.
_"All in all this is a perfectly reasonable motherboard"_ Oh yaay, it's the one I've ordered. I'm not hardware technical, I'm not even building it - it's such a small overhead to get a professional to do it and I want a single warranty and no stress. I certainly won't be overclocking it. And I paired it with the 3700, which you suggested almost what you suggested. And reasonable graphics card, a 3060, I'm sure would count. So phew, I was probably just lucky.
You did well to make the broad strokes clear to a layman. Thanks!
hi man. its been 11 months, how is this working?
@@yusastudios Delighted with it, I did chuck 32gig of half decent ram in it which always helps but I haven't had a single problem. Just last week I coded a pretty intensive web scraping script which ran for three days in the background and there wasn't the slightest issue as I used the computer for everyday use.

I was looking for small am4 motherboard for home server... This might be just the thing
4 years later, getting the "II" version for my brother's PC (now that I have hand-me-down 32GB DDR4 3200, 3700X and NH-12S). Considering that his case can fit 10 slot boards, has 2x 230mm+ 1x 140mm fan (could put 4x 140mm or another 230mm fan on the side panel) - VRM thermals will never be an issue. And TBH beyond looks the case is utter overkill in every aspect for anything less than an E-ATX board, so it'll never need replacing.
Every other board in the same price bracket that was available had older wifi and BT.
Answers all my questions. Thank you.
I bought the MSI B550m Mortar for $159 and it seems beefy on the heat sink side . love the channel !!
Ahem, not 6+2, it's 4+2 while the +2 is in parallel. 4x (SiRA 14DP/2x SiRA 12) for VCore and 2x2 (SiRA 14DP/SiRA12) for SOC. These are Vishay "DrMos" 46A @75°C Parts...
When you look on the top you see two mini chips in the SOC portion, which are the drivers. so next time remove the heatsink and look at the configuration. Highend boards do not use such parts, so when IPS or SPS are used, the drivers are inside the package.
Well done mate 👍👍
I use the budget x570 Prime board, minus buying a USB-C add in card. It has every feature I'd say 99% of people need.
i bought this motherboard for my girlfriend but it was a ASUS PRIMA B550M motherboard with better heatsinks but for the rest the same she has ddr4 3600mhz in it with a ryzen 5 5600g and a gtx 1660ti its a flying machine mate it realy preformes well !!! she loves it and im realy happy

Would this work with a R5 5500 out of the box no bios update?
VFIO with an APU?!?
With ryzen 4000 it's at least 50% less insane than you think!
@@Level1Techs You should test this, I am on B450 matx mobo and I am upgrading to 4700G at some point to have spare pcie slot fre. Oh yeah, using VFIO. my b550m-a only supports DOCP, but not XMP, is it normal? I am using R5 5600 with latest bios.

So is this one good for 3080rtx? Im building my first PC after 12years running a PC a friend build me
This mobo is now $103.99 for amazon prime day!
I've been having nothing but issues since building a system with Ryzen 5 3600, RX 5700XT Pulse and this exact motherboard. Tried 3 different types of DDR4 memory (two of which were QVL).
Not saying it's because of the motherboard, but I can't run DOCP without crashes and even with DOCP disabled running Unigine Heaven crashes in 5-10 minutes. Latest BIOS and (chipset)drivers, but this combo is not working for me.
Did you exchange the motherboard? Defects do happen.

May I ask how you can run 7.1 audio through 6 channels? You only got 3 3.5" jacks there. 7.1 requires 4.
If you read the manual, it specifically states that for 7.1 channel output, the Front Panel Audio header is re-purposed to output the Side channels) (I quote verbatim: * Choose the chassis with HD audio module in front panel to support 8-channel audio output.)
