      Ya, I was shocked that he didn't even make an honorable mention. Suffered what should have been a career ending injury right after winning the title, then somehow worked his way back to an interim title anyways. You have to wonder what he could have done without losing all those years out of his prime.

    Brock Lesnar entering MMA training in 2002 and learning striking, submission grappling, etc, to go along with his size, strength, and wrestling background, then working his way up to the UFC could have been something special.
    Kurt Angle is another massive "what if" in that regard.

      I hated Brock when he came into the league, I had to learn to respect his contribution later but at the time I absolutely hated what and who he brought to the sport. 2:35 this is a tad misleading to say cejudo had double champ status “with defenses in both divisions” that’s always worth objecting to, albeit lightly. Henry vacated his flyweight title after a successful defense over Dillishaw who came down for his own double champ attempt. While he held flyweight yes he did earn the vacated bantamweight strap. But before defended that one, he dropped that flyweight belt 80days prior. So by the time he was defending bantam, he wasn’t actually double champ.
    It would be incredibly special if a champion simultaneously defended two belts - or even defended their second belt while still holding the first - ala Daniel Cormier. Henry didn’t do that. It’s relevant bc he could burn his flyweight ships so to speak. He had no obligation to keep his body anything close to flyweight and could build his body back for good to bantamweight and focus there for his defenses.

    • @cokegaming4830

    Thing with Lesnar is his kickboxing was never likely to improve enough to be a serious long-term titleholder. Even without the colon surgery, he never really demonstrated the capacity to learn effective striking. There's plenty of effective wrestlers who learned to strike, but Brock never looked like he'd be one.

    • @TheElbowMerchant
      @TheElbowMerchant 4 месяца назад +1

      Particularly when it came to striking defense. He didn't like getting hit, which fair enough, because getting hit by world-class heavyweights was a terrifying proposition, but he couldn't stay calm in the face of incoming strikes. He'd usually duck his head, turn away, even run away from the pocket on occasion, and of course, panic wrestle. He learned how to throw a punch, but not really effectively avoid them. Credit where it's due, what he was able to accomplish with relatively minimal training (outside of wrestling) was pretty amazing, as he was getting by with that pedigree, freak athleticism, and obvious PED usage.

      @@TheElbowMerchant Nobody likes getting hit in the face, but if you want to be an MMA prizefighter, you’ll eventually have to learn to deal with it the right way. Look at how he shrank after Overeem caught him a few times, and the less said about his 720 when Cain socked him, the better. What he achieved cannot be denied, but he was never a serious long-term prospect, certainly not once the division started to grow.

      Overeem hit him where he had surgery. He took bombs from Carwin and survived. He may not like getting hit, but he seem to be able to at least take them and not get knocked out. Heck Mir caught him with a jumping knee in the 2nd fight. We never know if he will ever develop an ability to brush off getting hit or defensive striking because his career was cut short.

    Speaking of making big waves in a short amount of time, Brock Lesnar's first run in the WWE was also phenomenal. Dude went from OVW talent to youngest WWE champion (at the time) within 3 years. The only other wrestler to surpass that accolade would be Kurt Angle, another formal wrestler who became WWE champ within a year.
    Brock is a once in a lifetime freak of nature. Dude is like an anaconda with limbs: super big, ridiculously strong, and terrifyingly fast.

    Jon acknowledges that he is jot the pound for pound. He admittedly refused to move up to heavyweight when Cormier was active. He didn't think he could beat him. He also refused to move up while Ngannou was active. Jon was a great fighter up until the Reyes fight. Since then, he's not the same fighter.

I think Jones would win that fight but it would have aged so much better for Jones and his career, and if Francis managed to get it done it changes the entire sport and instantly makes him one of the goats.
