Thanks for the review. Can you confirm that you can swap drives for archiving. So start with original drive and store assorted files. Eject and insert new drive and use routinely. At some point eject new drive and reinsert original drive and retrieve a previously stored file. Etc. Thanks.
hi there...I like the capacity of this drive...16TB...I just got a M1pro MBP...and as per Black Magic Speed this cannot do 4k editing correct? (in my case coming from a Sony a7iii/a6400 and Canon 90d)- I guess this will be ok for 1080p for sure but for 4K so I guess I need to look into the 2Big raid set up... Have you tried edited 4k with this or you only use your SSD for that? Thanks for the video
That's a good question! I don't primarily use this for editing, it's more of an archive drive and I edit off of Samsung T5's. However, the few times that I've had to edit 5.2k footage from this drive, it's handled it well.
@@technically00 hey thanks...I may get one of these ones for archival too...it's not fast enough for 4k editing...I have a Sandisk 2TB SSD..mostly enough...thanks
Actually, yes! I haven't figured out what the cause is but sometimes it will spin all night, but the majority of the time it is silent. Haven't had that problem for a while actually, so it may go away over time.
You guys figure this out? Mine spins up almost religiously every 10 mins or so and not sure if there’s some macOS settings somewhere I should be checking
It seems that we have the very same problem! I just received my 1Big Dock 16TB within one week, and it keeps making noise now and then...I thought it was broken. But apart from that, everything works fine.
I own Lacie 1big Thubderbolt 3 4TB 2 month ago. I love this device. Today in Toolkit notice that memory is marked in red and is marked "read only" What does it mean and why it shows? Thanks
Hmm, haven't come across that before. If you don't have a bunch of crucial information stored on it yet, it might be best to reformat to avoid potential issues in the future.
It's probably not unusual. When I first got mine, it made noise like crazy for no reason. But eventually it just made less noise on its own despite no difference in use. Still works great for me!
That's a bummer! Unfortunately stuff like that happens no matter what kind of tech we use. Hopefully you didn't miss out on any important info since it was a backup.
Hey, I bought this 1Big Dock 16TB, it works fine using Thunderbolt3 in my iMac, but it doesn't work using USB-C cable on my laptop. Have you tried using this dock in a laptop or desktop using USB-C cable?
If the port you're plugging into isn't TB3-enabled, it won't recognize the device. It would be like plugging a TB1 or TB2 cable into a mini-display port. Same form factor, different cables. Hope this helps!
Not gonna lie, it isn't the most unnoticeable thing but I actually like it and it acts as a nice ambient light in a dark room. But not everyone will like it!
@@technically00 It would be great if LaCie gave us the option of turning it off. In fact, I purchased an 8 TB drive, and I originally wanted the LaCie, for the faster copy times of files (really helps with large movie files) , but I just could not get past that light🙂 . Maybe if they address this issue, I can get my next drive from them.
@@fayyazalli1295 That would be ideal, but some might think the light is pleasing. Not everyone finds it a distraction, but you can always put a piece of gaff tape over it if it truly bothers you!
Comprehensive review! You answered all of my questions bout the 1Big. Thank you!!

That would be correct! You can pull out the drive from the tray and replace it if you'd like

are you getting the "Disk Not Ejected Properly" error ?
my 1Big Dock 16TB is so noisy, it keep spinning and seems the head is moving continuously even if it is not using, do you have this in your unit?

Where did you Output Frontier moniters go?
Ha! Good Catch! This was actually filmed a few months before Output released their monitors. I just hadn't hadn't posted this video yet!
are you getting the "Disk Not Ejected Properly" error ?
Not unless I'm disconnecting it without ejecting it first!
@@technically00 the error i'm referring to seems to be when the Mac goes to sleep

very helpful. thank you!
Thanks for that, really helpful!
I find the drive gets very noisy even when I'm not moving files around, is this normal?

Hi! Where did you buy that desk??? It’s awesome!
I had it custom made by Brandon from Monkwood Studios in Fullerton, CA! It's been my personal workspace since 2017
Well, mine died after just 10 month of use as a backup, not so happy.

That blue light though, way to big and bright.
