Ohh my god! I havent' heard this song before. I f***king love Comus so much. Ever since I discovered an album in my dads house couldnt stop listen to it!! It's amazing how something can be so beautiful and scary at the same time.
I saw them perform this at the Three Tuns in Beckenham (now yet another Zizzi restaurant) in the early 1970s. Great to finally hear it again after 40+ years. Roger Wooton has often been asked about the possibility of resurrecting it, but has always dismissed the idea.
This is a bootleg cut from the early '70's and was intended as the opening half of a two-part suite. Given its age and analogue format, I think the audio's exceptional.
Im almost floored after 40 years they created a new album, and it is a much more worthy successor to First Utterance then To Keep From Crying. First Utterance has been a big favorite for a long time now. To find this new album was just great news.
The confirmed lyrics do no exist. Comus has lost them to time. The little that exists is in the out of the coma booklet, which are all deciphered by ear.
Can someone please get me the lyrics to this thing??? I can't find them anywhere! Of course, this goes without saying - what an amazing song. I wish they'd done a proper version of this on their follow up to FU.
I know the unfinished lyrics, but im not sure if comus wants them public, as they haven't posted the work-in-progress lyrics in their site despite it being officially in the out of the coma booklet. The unfinished lyrics are in the out of the coma booklet, which also states that readers can request possible missing lyrics of which i managed to uncover some, but sadly its a bit of a lost cause as the writer of the lyrics, i believe being roger wooton, has lost the lyrics over time. What i can tell of the song, there is a powerful warlock ogre named Malgaard which has powers who captures a maiden who throws herself into a lake and freezes, and then malgaard and his minions try to take her out of the ice which results in her death.

I think he just knows their voices couldn't pull it off anymore.
i am in tears

I just realized halfway through THERES NO DRUMS!!! It's quite hard to make a great song with out drums and have a person stick. What a song.
I wish they made the follow up album and it was good quality, this sounds like it would have been amazing.
with fuckin Lindsay Cooper playing in it !
They were about to make an album out of it before their record label prevented it. Fuck corporate interest!
who the fuck is disliking these videos... its been 40 years! This is amazing considering
Im almost floored after 40 years they created a new album, and it is a much more worthy successor to First Utterance then To Keep From Crying. First Utterance has been a big favorite for a long time now. To find this new album was just great news.
It's such a fucking tragedy that there are no versions of better quality, this could very well be one of my favorite songs from them.
Unique and wonderful, thank you!
this is definitely my favorite Comus song, if not one of my favorite songs at the moment
I've just looked through an old diary and managed to find the date of the Three Tuns gig - 21 May 1972. Could the recording have been made then?
i think the audio quality makes the song better.
just my opinion
Whaaaattt! I hadn't heard this one!
wow. what a challenging but rewarding piece of music to listen to...deeply vivid and unique. Better than 90% of the "prog" music out there
I feel it hinders the ability to hear all the instruments and voices. What I would give to be in the audience for this performance.
well said brother couldn't agree more
kvlt production from the first kvlt band.
Are there any live recordings of Comus from around the time they did First Utterance?
This one, actually. Recorded live in 1972 👀
Does anybody know if someome has ever tried to remaster it?
9:00 💓
Has anyone got the lyrics?

andale! este album si tiene contenido (aunque no tanto como first utterance) no como el del 74...
Agreed. A re-recording still would have been nice. It just feels out of place on the new album.
I disagree. Lindsay Cooper was on this recording and she's dead now. She is an absolutely irraplaceabke musician.

I wonder if there's any chance of using ai to clean it up a little
WHat's with the production? The rest of the album isn't like this?
