o_O Well, that was jarring!... Soundgarden are on a very short list of bands whose music I consume in album-sized bites.... so I'm off to listen to the whole thing thru again immediately!! LOL Matt's drumming, Ben's bass work, & Kim's lead guitar, in Soundgarden are all criminally underloved imho. Always good to see any of the 3 of them shown some appreciation for their efforts. :)
This is my favourite SG album. These maniacs put out two double albums in a row and called it quits (then King Animal, of course). This is the Abbey Road of grunge.
I had a similar experience with this record. I bought it the week it came out, got into what would end up being the singles, and the harder stuff. I never gave it a chance as a total work until they got back together. Once I gave it a chance, it clicked. It's a great record and as good a follow up to a monster album that could be done. The grunge thing was running its course, and at the time it felt like the band had either lost interest or was just plain exhausted. This might hold the record for me for skipping to the next song after 3 seconds because the opening riff didn't grab me. Yet when you take the time, nearly every song's payoff is so worth the patience. I'm still partial to the two previous albums, but DOTU is very much at the same level. Good stuff. I clicked on specifically because you featured a song from this record.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums All the labels needed to sign their own version of grunge, so it became massively watered down and ended up nothing like the original movement. It's also important to remember- all these bands said it at the time as well- the Seattle scene had been brewing and allowed to breathe well before the hype machine caught onto it. These were bands that had been allowed the space to play in front of 20-30 people in a dank bar while no one else in the world cared. But there were a bunch of good bands beyond the big 4 that did some good stuff.

The album is disjointed as is reflected by the band’s relationship at the time. I prefer to call it eclectic lol. There’s so much going on musically on this album. SG to me were technically light years ahead of most of those contemporaries.
An early favourite of mine and a song I'd forgot about for a while. Hearing it again it's even better than I remembered it. It's once again among my favourites of theirs. Such an awesome track! I love the slow-down especially! It doesn't stop nor start exactly on the split, it carries on through it, dragging on either tempo in such a deliciously judged way. Love that. And that dropped guitar part in the verses, where it just falls instead of carrying on with the riff (makes that part its own related riff). Nice one. :D First time on the channel, bloomin' eck is that Hummer in the outro? It has to be! I love Pumpkins as well! Ah nice.
It's amazing that some pearl jam fans hate on Matt. Yes he's not insert your favourite drummer of their's but he can play. From all accounts he's actually a great bloke. Plus his backup vocals are awesome.

Love this song -- Matt wrote this one (the music anyway). If you ever go back to check more Soundgarden I highly recommend the '92 Lollapalooza Seattle performance of Jesus Christ Pose. Watching Matt play that drum part live at speed is just phenomenal to watch. Regarding their use of click -- at least for SuperUnknown Michael Beinhorn (producer) said they would lead into a song with a click but turn it off for the duration of the recording.
Yeah, this one took me a while to get into as well but there are some absolute goddamned bangers on it as well. The first half is all of the more accessible tracks, then the second half is the weirder and more experimental stuff. Boot Camp is an incredible closer, too. The last track on King Animal kinda gave me a feel similar to it, kinda weird and takes a long time to build.
According to Matt Cameron he did use a click on the King Animal album and on two tracks on Badmotorfinger (Room A Thousand Years Wide and the major part of Rusty Cage up until the tempo shift and the outro). The rest is recorded with no clicks.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums No probs! I'm totally with you on that. Great song! Badmotorfinger is my favourite album of theirs and the one that got me into them back in 1991. Cheers!

Matt always makes me think of a mix of Bonham and Ward … more so Ward on the earlier stuff and Bonham later. He’s an excellent player! I agree, Andrew … for me, any Soundgarden up to Badmotorfinger is amazing! Deep Six, and FOPP EP are rawer, looser and less focused, experimenting with their sound. Screaming Life EP is still experimenting but much more focused on the slower heavier Sabbath/late-Black Flag thing they became known for. Ultramega OK is them having found their sound, and working out the details. Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger are THE Soundgarden … like Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets and … And Justice For All are THE Metallica. Theyre the band that made it famous and are exploring the sound and energy that made them that way. Superunknown is kinda like their black album… still the same band, but theyve moved past the sound that made them famous and are exploring more accessible territory. Down On The Upside was an extension of the direction of the previous, but almost kinda trying to revisit the energy they had prior to it, a great way to go out! Anything after that was good, and had some bright moments, but just wasnt THE Soundgarden.
Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are burned into my brain. Stone old classics from that early 90s era. Down on the Upside has some great singles, but as an album, prob a few songs too long for me. I've also got a soft spot for Temple of the Dog, which also features Matt Cameron on drums. However, if we're going to talk about early to mid-90s, it's time to bring on Jimmy Chamberlain.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I see you did a reaction on Jimmy Chamberlain a while back. Just had a look. Amazing crowd. Fantastic drummer. Prob my fav from that era.
Speaking of perfection though, you really need to check out some songs by the Mars Volta. Specifically from the Deloused in the Comatorium album. Jon Theodore did such an amazing job on that album. He's like a latin John Bonham. Honestly. Check them out. Please react to Eriatarka - The Mars Volta. A lot of people love this album and band. I think your mind will be blown.
@@Ash_Hudson Theodore is incredible on that record. Volta in their own way fits very much in with a small number of bands that reach back to grunge. Saw them open for SG in 2012 in Atlantic City. Great show.
I don't think they used a ckick either ('ve whatched and read a ton of interviews by now and can't remember). But then, they had Matt and Chris, who where quite some human metronomes themselves.
I'll have to agree with you about "falling out of love a bit" with Soundgarden after Super Unknown. Still enjoy their music, but seemed Chris Cornell went solo and/or did side projects for a bit and Soundgarden disappeared from my radar. I don't even remember this album being released. When Chris and the band reunited, it was cool, but the sound they produced at this time seemed off from their previous iteration.
The best reactions are done by musicians! You might want to check out the band called Saphath with their music video "Outcast of Eden" (ruclips.net/video/y8G-Hb1q2fc/видео.html) and their album, "Ascension of the Dark Prophet". There is some epic stuff going on

Down On The Upside was an extension of the direction of the previous, but almost kinda trying to revisit the energy they had prior to it, a great way to go out! Anything after that was good, and had some bright moments, but just wasnt THE Soundgarden.
Chris was their first drummer.
Hey Edward!
Temple Of The Dog is one of my fave albums of all time.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I see you did a reaction on Jimmy Chamberlain a while back. Just had a look. Amazing crowd. Fantastic drummer. Prob my fav from that era.
do John Merryman "Lucid Interval" next, please!! thx
React to dave mcgraw from cattle decapitation - Pacific grim.
Yes I need to get to that band!
Another song I think you should listen to is megadeths Good Mourning/Black Friday, Gar Samuelson is monster in it
Them pulling back ever so slightly on the chorus intro feels good. Perfection is lifeless.
Couldn't agree more!
adds weight
Speaking of perfection though, you really need to check out some songs by the Mars Volta. Specifically from the Deloused in the Comatorium album. Jon Theodore did such an amazing job on that album. He's like a latin John Bonham. Honestly. Check them out. Please react to Eriatarka - The Mars Volta. A lot of people love this album and band. I think your mind will be blown.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I am imploring you.
@@Ash_Hudson Theodore is incredible on that record. Volta in their own way fits very much in with a small number of bands that reach back to grunge. Saw them open for SG in 2012 in Atlantic City. Great show.
im counting 12, but yea, groups of 3
I don't think they used a ckick either ('ve whatched and read a ton of interviews by now and can't remember).
Yes I'm just being brutally honest.
It felt tired by this point (at the time).
Listening now... this is a banger!
I largely prefer when you react to live performance.
Me too. But this was the selection. So something a bit different
Ludwig drums?
Love the reaction,Can youreact to xdinary hero's strawberry cake mv?
The best reactions are done by musicians!
You might want to check out the band called Saphath with their music video "Outcast of Eden" (ruclips.net/video/y8G-Hb1q2fc/видео.html) and their album, "Ascension of the Dark Prophet". There is some epic stuff going on
Assumption of the Daft Puppet? Sounds gay, thanks anyway.
@@horaceosirian8993 hahaha reminds me of chat where we were making up the band names by replacing one letter, like Linkin Pork and Petallica
