      Honestly Mei is overall a reasonable person. She mainly only lashed out at people if she believed they had something to do with her child’s death (a lot of people would do the same). It was only towards the end where she harmed someone totally innocent, and even then it was under the Emperor’s orders

      @@peepeenagito2002 , oh yeah, he knew who the trouble makers were in the harem. But unfortunately, the Empress, Consort Jia and Hui were from powerful clans and/or families so he walked a fine line in which he cannot enact punishment without irrefutable proof. He knew Arou was full of shit, which was why he promoted her into a concubine, to protect her from those who might done away with her to keep her quiet...and when the time is right, coerce her to confess. Hailan's little stunt started the ball rolling.

      @@princess7jasmine HaiLan wasn't very favored even before that. Shes a mongolian (Which would make her lowclass) and started out as a servant (much like A'Rou) though she got her position because the Emperor was naughty and to save face and keep her honor intact Ruyi convinced him to make her a concubine. She had nothing to offer court nor him other than herself so he really didn't do much with her.
      The main reason why she had such a high standing over A'Rou is because even though she was a servant she used her knowledge to help others out and make points and such- a good example is the Emperor wants to make his mother a blanket, but his mother thinks it's tacky. Hai Lan, who was once part of the seamstress' uses her sewing knowledge to help the sewing department change the pattern and make it nicer using the dowager empress' prayer beads as insperation. This gets her a lot of notice by people not because she's solving problems but because she's capable in her skills to help them with their problems.

      @@lyqueruss2715 Being Mongolian doesn't equal lowclass. On the contrary. Six Qing Empresses were from Mongolia, as well as many high-ranking concubines and wives of princes. A lot of the imperial princesses were also married to Mongols, including two of Qianlong's four surviving daughters (both of them called 'Princess Hejing of the First Rank', the daughters of Empress Xiaoxianchun and Empress Xiaoyichun/Consort Ling). Hailan's lower status was because she started out as a maid (her ethnicity doesn't really matter). But she is somehow different from A'ruo because of seniority: Hailan became part of the harem before Qianlong took the throne so she "served" him for longer. Also, I guess being the former personal maid of a consort is worse than starting as a maid in the embroidery or music offices (like Hailan and Concubine Mei), because the rest of the consorts see you as a traitor of your mistress.

      For Hailan, it was her only opportunity to save Ruyi, because Ruyi was framed to poison other concubine's fetuses. What is better than using the same incident to prove Ruyi's innocence? Hailan surely wouldn't want to poison other concubines and so she used her pregnancy as an opportunity. She had been careful with the dosage so it wouldn't harm or kill her child. Only in this way they could save Ruyi, and it is understandable because Hailan and Ruyi are so close.

Even her own biological sister might not have gone that far to save Ruyi. Such bonds are not made out of blood but pure love and respect towards each other. I would have liked to see a scenario where Hailan must openly choose between saving his son or Ruyi.

      Yeah in my own interpretation i think its pretty clear she is devoted to her, probably a little more than her own son-I mean she bet her son’s and her own life to get Ruyi out, and makes Yonqi only devoted to Ruyi. However I think she thinks of her son as BOTH of their children (Hers and Ruyi’s, especially when she tells Ruyi she gave birth to a child for both of them) and that is her birth son so obviously Hailan will still love Yonqi

    • @princess7jasmine
      @princess7jasmine 2 года назад +38

      The only reason Hailan was a consort in the first place was thanks to Ruyi. The story goes is that the Emperor got drunk and forced himself on Hailan (who was a maid at the time) then was convinced by Ruyi to take Hailan as a concubine so her life wouldn't be ruined and filled with shame. This is also one of the reasons why Hailan never liked him and why the Emperor didn't pay her much attention, especially after birthing Yongqi (using the pathetic excuse of stretch marks.)
      Ruyi was Hailan's only friend then as other concubines ignored or hated her for being lowborn. It's little wonder why she's so devoted.

      @@peepeenagito2002 yeah yeah it's all well and good, but I find his attitude creepy all the same. basically if ruyi's biggest fault is to cherish love too much in the harem as hailan said her biggest fault is not to cherish this love enough: if it's not ruyi all these other relationships are just tools for her to help ruyi. her world revolves around her and anyone who says or hurts ruyi automatically becomes her enemy. just see what she did to consort chun who she was supposed to have a good relationship with just for some mean things said against ruyi. the 1st prince the same yet she knew that ruyi loved him like a son and they really raised him together at one point but at the 1st prank she did not hesitate to destroy him using her son for that causing indirectly the death of the 1st prince and the permanent disgrace of consort chun in the eyes of the emperor (and we see what it has given in the long term) to name only these cases. her devotion to ruyi can be seen as magnificent in some ways but i don't see it that way and frankly i'm amazed that she didn't kill herself to follow her like rongpei!
