    Hi troj and Rebecca ... Great catch of mackerel! That big lobster was really something Rebecca couldn't keep her eyes off it ... Was wondering why so many octopus this year?

      @Trojwaterman  2 месяца назад +1

      They used to be here then a very severe cold winter in 1963 finished them off. Now they are making a return as the seas warm, a lack of large predatory fish to eat them and they have plenty of small lobsters at the moment to feed on.

    Nice lobster that, here in Ireland we can’t keep lobsters that size, we have a maximum size of 127 mm they say lobsters above this size are the best for breeding

      We have only ever had a minimum size limit and we are overrun with lobster, more now than I have ever known but the octopus have now moved in so that may change in the next few years. We also don't have huge industrial vessels in out waters and that also makes a big difference.

    Do you think the octopus are learning to prey on lobster pots? They ain’t daft….

    • @anthony3603
      @anthony3603 2 месяца назад

      Absolutely! They are the smartest animal down there! They hunt by trial and error and they learn from their mistakes!

      I think there are many more down there as most probably get straight back out the pots we have had a lot of empty pots this year.

    Do you ever get the urge to bait fish on a deep wreck?

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  2 месяца назад

      Last time I did that I caught a 30lb cod. A lot of the wrecks around here are just bits of old metal on the seabed now. Anything deeper is out of my range.
