I loved hearing the perspective of someone who has actually attended Oxford! I can't resist the lure of dark academia and I also enjoyed The Poppy War series so I had high hopes for Babel, but was disappointed with how much time was spent telling the reader what was happening instead of showing it on the page. To me, the themes did feel preachy and heavy-handed, important as they are. This book was so perfectly calculated to appeal to my tastes (I have a minor in Ancient Greek after studying Latin in high school for three years). Alas it missed the mark for me! I'm not mad at it, just disappointed 😆
However, watching your review was so enjoyable for me because you took the time to give an academic critique and explain how the characters and their motivations landed for you. I normally want to hear ranty reviews on books that fell flat for me, but yours was delightful. I can't wait to check out more of your videos!

I’ve been hearing a lot about this one, but I wasn’t sure it would be for me since I don’t read a lot of dark academia. I think you may have convinced me! Sounds like a good one.

I'm interested in reading Babel because it has a lot of good reviews and sounds like a thought provoking adult fantasy with a different twist . The Poppy Wars I imagine being about drugs and war which has its place but Isn't something I would choose to submerge myself in .

I heard from a friend of a friend, that that book was a 10 out of 10. I really did enjoy the characters. I would love to read Ramiz and Victoire's perspective books.
